My friends visited one year ago and raved about this place so much, they tried booking it a year out. We did the chefs taster and got these: - Pineapple water as a palate cleanser: 4/5 subtle and sweet - Mussels with a crisp: 4/5. Kind of bland but nice crisp to it - Marinated tomatoes topped with fresh greens, herbs, and some foam: 5/5 - Shrimp carpaccio: 2/5 ugh. Very fresh shrimp but with shrimp paste, shrimp pieces, the head, tail and guts, all you tasted was fishy shrimp. All 5 of us disliked it. - Sea bass in ratatouille sauce: 3/5. Bland and the ratatouille sauce was meh. - Chocolate caramel lava cake with whiskey filling, and spun whiskey sugar. It came with elderflower ice cream. 5/5! Hands down blew everyone away - Lemon caviar tart palate cleanser: 4/5 delish and beautiful presentation. Just a very tad too tart but still so good. The fresh breads, butter, etc were all good but wish it was toasty and warm. For a Michelin restaurant, it honestly should be! They have a very extensive wine list but I didn't like the champagne we got. However the red wine was fabulous. Would I return? No. But I'm glad I tried it on an epic day as the Tour de France. read more

I rate one star only for the view. The menu was very limited and heavily laden with fish, yet the dishes were very bland with very little flavor. I had to send my fish plate back because it was raw and cold in the center. The wine menu is offering white wines that are 2021 vintages, beyond their peak drinking age. What a great dining experience. The service was superb - they were very attentive and yet not intrusive. They served each course with several servers so that we each received our food at the same time. Very elegant. The location is a great setting for dining. It was outside on a terrace overlooking the vineyards and the Rhône river. Most importantly, the food was wonderful. Look at the pictures I posted to see just how elegant the presentation was. Each dish was a highlight. We were started off with an amuse bouche that was mussel smoked with rosemary. My first course was heirloom tomatoes topped with a lime & carmel mousse. It was a savory delight. The next course was a shrimp & lobster with a nice foam on the side with a patch of tasty mushrooms. Next came my main dish, a nicely prepared tourbot with savory sauce and vegetables. The chocolate dessert was a masterpiece of beauty & sweetness. A spectacular presentation & delicious blend of flavors. The mousse was covered by a light candied carmel. I hope you are getting the idea that we love this experience. Not sure on English capability as we did everything in French. La mère Germaine is an excellent restaurant in the village, in the area of chateauneuf du pape. I came to eat true French local food and was not disappointed. The wine was excellent, the cheese and overall card amazing. A very traditional and beautiful place. I recommend as the ambiance is sober and class. The service is flawless. read more

We have eaten at Le Comptoir de la Mere Germaine quite few times, some just my wife and I, more often with friends from Sablet or the USA. Generally, we have been very happy with the welcome, menu offerings, preparation, plating, and service. Tonight was not a good experience. There was only a couple of small starters for a vegetarian like my wife, leek in vinaigrette, and a mushroom tartine. We asked about other options for a vegetarian, and the manager who took our order said they couldn't do anything for her, didn't even consult the chef. There were parts of other dishes that could have been combined, such as pasta, vegetables, and mushrooms, into a very tasty vegetarian main course. But he didn't make any effort, totally lacked creativity, certainly didn't care about his customers experience. Not sure if he wanted us to get up and walk out. They could have done so much better. The rest of us were happy with our meals, but uncomfortable with my wife going hungry. I've been traveling France for a month and through all the restaurants I've been to I though this would be the best and I was completely wrong. The service was horrible. The waiters and waitresses said we had no reservation and sent us up the road to their another restaurant not offering to call or help. We came back and they suddenly found our reservation. They denied us the choice of wine we wanted and tried to offer us a cheap wine opposed to the wine of the region which is part of the reason why we came. Our tour guide was mortified. They refused to explain the dishes and stuck their noses up at us even though we paid the same price as everyone else. The food was alright and they didn't care too much about our dietary needs. They offered us dishes outside of our prepaid portions and gave no warning. The view was great though. We wine tasted in the area and we were told after the fact that many other locals and travelers have had this experience recently. Unsure if the management has changed since the good reviews or if people are amazed by a star throwing the negativity to the side but I'd say save your money and find a local restaurant that will treat you like family and give you the meal you didn't know you needed. read more

Had the salmon starter and it was delicious. I apologize, consumed it before thinking of a photo. Followed by an excellent sea bass. All married with an outstanding rose'. Was staying in a chateau down the road with a restaurant too stuffy for our taste and drove into town. We happened upon La Mere Germaine and had the most delightful meal. The owner was so kind to my friends and me, gave wonderful recommendations on wine, and the food was delicious. We asked if we could stop for breakfast there the next morning even though we weren't overnight guests. The next morning a table was waiting for us with fresh roses and hot pastries. This trip was 8 years ago, and I just found a notecard Andre gave to us when we left, which reminded me of what a great time we had. I hope everyone there is doing well during the pandemic! read more
