She really cares about her staff and she pretty much knows all the students by name. Academically she is always finding new ways to improve student learning to help benefit them. She is compassionate and you can see she really loves her school. She is always outside ready to help wherever. She is also very approachable. Teachers are caring and supportive. They do everything they can to benefit the students and help them succeed. This school has a very family oriented environment and you feel welcomed. Trust is gone. one time the priest/science teacher said most of the kids are going to end up dying in there parents home. Most teachers here don't care about the students at all -- they hand out demerits like they're Oprah giving away cars. "You get one! You get one!" -- for literally nothing. No support, no guidance, just constant punishment and confusion. This place doesn't feel like a school. It feels like a mess held together by duct tape and prayer (and the prayer ain't working).

The events, field trips, and school projects are all great. It's the perfect mix of school and homeschool. He is home Mondays and Fridays and in class Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. this gives him the socialization and supportive school community to learn with the freedom to be home with his family too. I really did want to try and be better, but her attitude and "under her breath" responses did not help me, whatsoever. She would give me side eyes and attitude with tone and she clearly had it for me and some of my classmates at the time I was here. For a school principal, she really lacks respect for the kids who attend this school, especially since their parents pay her salary. Students, on the other hand, it is a very mixed bag. For me, I just do not think the classroom environment a lot of the time felt welcoming at all. A good portion of my time here, I did not feel welcome nor did I ever feel like I belonged, no matter how hard I tried, especially if your child is a very hyper individual. The school, itself, is just fine and during my time here, the only real positive I have for the school are the teachers. The teachers were basically the main highlight and made me want to continue my education and a lot of their words and lessons still impact me to this day. I do think the staff of the school care deeply for the students, except for the principal. Parents, you are better off sending your child elsewhere if you don't want your child feeling like they don't belong somewhere. Honestly, I just wish my time and memories of this school was just a lot more pleasant.

The parents who don't even know this school are doing an injustice by rating it with just 3 stars. My 2 kids have been attending at this Bonita Country Day School ever since they can start to attend school at age 3. I stayed as long as I can & have been with this school since 2006. In regards to academic curriculum and excellence it is top notch and advance without pressure. BCDS curriculum is 2 years advance on average, and they supplement the lessons most times, so your kids will mostly likely be more than 2 years advance. My kids have been about at least two years academically advance for all their grades when they were tested. In comparison to all the many other elite Southbay and La Jolla private schools I had visited, BCDS is obviously advance. Some of those schools I checked out were even amazed to find out Bonita Country Day School 4th graders are actually doing high school math as a norm. Most new kids entering BCDS for older grades, usually needs help to catch up because they are behind at the other schools they have been attending. Kids are allowed to naturally reach their potential thru independent studies under close administering & guidance by instructors at BCDS. Parents who decide to enroll their kids here at Bonita Country Day School (BCDS) will come to appreciate it watching their kids grow intellectually & be independent thinkers. Many schools boast successful students but they cannot produce great student successfully on high academics like they do at BCDS.. If parents seriously compare curriculum, you will see why BCDS is the better choice. It shows when the kids do well when they have to move on to other schools by academics and exhibits wonderful demeanor. Bonita Country Day School has been known and proven to produce many students who are highly advance learners and thinkers successfully. Faculties from competing schools have been known to tell me on many occasions how they highly regard the talents of Mrs. C, the principle at Bonita Country Day. She does work with cooperative parents to help kids achieve high. All my suggestions and kind requests have been met during the time I have been at BCDS. I only have compliments at this school. She is especially gifted to teach & knows how to help your children grow to their fullest potential intellectually. She prepares them for the real world by helping kids slowly build their public speaking skills throughout the coursework in so many subtle ways too. That bonus part is not even mentioned in the curriculum. I have seen so many kids blossom under her special supervision.. This school is gentle in ways but do not expect your kids to be babied. The staff are nurturing, attentive and knows when your kids are feeling off or not well right away, or knows if they are just testing out the teachers patience. The kids are taught to be independent from an early stage through subtle discipline with simple routines that build up through the grade levels. It's awesome if you recognize what they are doing as parents. Don't send your innocent young children here…read more My 5yo son was I believe wrongfully removed from school.. He had never experienced pre school and never really had consistent interactions with other kids. So as school started 8/21 he had to be redirected a lot to his station and there were incidences he was struggling with transitions and shows his frustration. There were 3 times he was sent to the office and based on what happened I believe some of those cases the school over reacted. He is 5! And since school started he had been absent 1-2 days each week because he got sick and other days he got sent home. Anyone would agree my son had barely any time to really adjust. The school requested for an IEP assessment from qualified professionals who do these, as well as his pediatrician which I proceed to get set up. The worst is they made us sign a behavior plan saying if things don't get better by 10/3 (document signed 9/19) they will remove him. According to the behavior plan document date - signed by the principal and his teacher SMA provided October 3 as his next review date. Last Thursday 9/27 he was sent to the office and sent home for something I truly believe was not necessary for him to skip the rest of the class. When I picked him up from the office - and on that day during the meeting with the principal and his teacher they reinforced the written Behavior Plan document and told me there can be no further incidents as a "warning". I had kept my home Friday 9/27 to give him some time to reset and start fresh Monday. I got a call from the principal on Friday afternoon 9/27 and she told me in these words "we (her and the diocese) had a meeting and determined that (my son) is not developmentally ready for the school" and they decided he no longer needed to come to school on Monday - she used the words "developmentally ready"... my response was that she (the principal) and the diocese are not qualified to make that assessment. That should be left to the professionals which I set out to make appointments. And if the professionals do conclude that my son is completely normal for his age then that says a lot about the school - this is prejudice. I believe that decision was made in retaliation to the emails I sent on 9/26 to advocate for fairness in disciplinary actions on my son. I requested a meeting to discuss my concerns, and my son was met with removal from school. I am heartbroken for my son and very angry that this school handled this so coldly. I grew up going to a catholic school and believe me there is nothing God loving, compassionate nor kind about the principal running this school.

In fact you may be wondering why teacher salaries are so high in this underachieving school district? While the Union is very strong, district admin is very weak. They tend to favor internal employees when filling positions when it is clear that outside expertise is desperately needed. While working there, principals did not hold teachers accountable and wrote favorable evaluations for either fear of backlash or to placate a colleague. They didn't even require teachers to plan together regularly in this district and still don't . That is amazing. . LGSD is by far the worst district I have ever worked for. I did not grow and develop professionally as a teacher should. Can someone explain why their scale is so much higher than other districts who are actually doing the work??? Now is the time to band together and hold the district accountable. If you don't, a year or more from now you'll wish you had.
