So we got tipped off that the cheese here is to die for. It took a while to learn which cheese exactly and how one must acquire this cheese. But once we figured it out, my world in all its cheesy goodness will never be the same. So which cheeses...queso crema y queso fresco. These are the house made cheeses we're talking about here, not some prepackaged brand name which is sitting in the cases easy to grab. No, these cheeses are not accessible to customers without asking a staff member, interestingly enough. One must go all the way to the back of the store to the meat counter and ask the butcher for the house made queso fresco or queso crema. It's a plus if you speak Spanish, or befriend a fellow customer who may be able to help you. The queso crema tastes homemade. It has that fresh cheese smell. It's great with chips, on enchiladas, tacos, nachos, on a spoon (not kidding), it's great on everything. The queso fresco has a wet salty bite, but not too salty and its the perfect accompaniment to whatever Mexican inspired meal your cooking up in the kitchen. From now on, I'll be measuring all future queso to the standard set here. The bar is high. Come to this store for the queso. They also have a nice small store selection of other common items. The butcher shop is great too. Commonly we'll hit up the meat and cheese here and grab a few veggies, as needed for dinner that night. It's an easy place to run in and grab a few things. It's more of a meat shop meets bodega kinda place. Do your regular weekly shopping elsewhere. Shop here for just handful of specialty items. I'd recommend shopping here in the daylight hours. Great selection of steak, chicken, and pork. We got the marinated skirt steak for our tailgate. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. They have a great hot food bar as well. read more

This review is for the taqueria. It's horrible. We were there at about 10 am and everything was very old, like it had been sitting from the day before. Beef fajitas had black spots from sitting, refried beans were old. Rice dried out and old. The wife (from mexico) had carnitas that were old and dried out. Horrible. I think I might fall in love you La Michoacana. No really. From the staff and the cleanliness of the facility... This was a very successful market experience! In my opinion it was probably one of the best because I didn't have to struggle with language barriers or a weird stench. The taco area shall be my next pit stop! My guy drove by La Michoacana on his way to pick up our furry son from kitty jail (don't ask) and he couldn't help but notice the parking lot filled with happy shoppers. We decided to visit on a Saturday when "El Dia del Nino" or "Day of the Child" festival was going on. The area was packed, but we were welcomed to an empty parking lot. Our mission was to find some meat to grill. As far as I could tell none of the meat was frozen. We normally find frozen beef short ribs at Supermercados and Super Cao. Sweet! I have yet to try out the BBQ meat, but the man zone and bro-in-law thought it all tasted really good. In conclusion- check this place out. There are a lot of hidden gems off SW 29th st and you won't know what they are unless you do some exploring! read more
