Best decision we made hiring LA Midwife Collective. I transferred to their care 7 months into my pregnancy. Though initially going for a Hospital Birth since I was 43 I was immediately put in the 'High Risk' category and all the shenanigans that come with that. So, at the encouragement of a friend of ours (Natural Birth Instructor) and with my husband fully on board, we decided to take control and started interviewing Birth Centers and Midwives. What attracted us to LA Midwife Collective was that we were getting 2 licensed midwives with years of experience. The moment we met Monica and later Jennifer, we were drawn to their professionalism, knowledge, and comforting approach. They made us feel so comfortable and empowered that we knew were in capable hands for the birth of our daughter. I loved that each visit was not rushed and not just about our baby but me...what was I eating? How was I feeling? Emotionally, physically? Exercises to do and foods to add. When decisions had to be made, they made sure we had all the information needed (pros/cons) so we could make an informed decision. Jennifer & Monica quickly went from strangers to family. The birth of our baby couldn't have gone better. Though Jennifer was off that weekend our doula, Johanna who also was their birth assistant, helped with the delivery of our baby. There were moments during the pushing stage where I started to panic and doubt myself, but Monica was right there saying exactly what I needed to hear. And after the birth as my husband and I were getting acquainted with our daughter Monica was in our kitchen making us something to eat. The care didn't end at the birth when issues came up with breastfeeding Monica was extremely quick to respond to our concerns. Words cannot express how grateful I am for Jenn. I wasn't sure if I was going to do a homebirth or a hospital birth, so I called LA Midwife Collective to get more information on what the process would be like if I decided to have a homebirth. From the first time I talked to Jenn, she was understanding, patient and I felt an immediate sense of ease with her. I had the most amazing experience during my pregnancy with her. I looked forward to our appointments, and I felt so at ease throughout my pregnancy because I was able to lean on her for advice, encouragement and support. My daughter is 15 months old now (holy crap!) and I can't look at her without thinking lovingly of Monica & Jennifer! I switched from an OBGYN to LA Midwife Collective around 30 weeks pregnant with my daughter and it made all the difference in how I felt about my prenatal care, birth, and postpartum care. I felt cared for, listened to, and protected, which is almost the exact opposite of how I felt at the OBGYNs office. Each visit felt private, calm, and un-rushed (exactly like the birth of my baby!) and after every appointment, I was more and more convinced I was always meant to have my baby at home with M&J. I only have wonderful things to say about the loving care that we received from LA Midwife Collective. We will 100% work with them for any future pregnancies. From my first phone call with Jennifer to our final postpartum visit with Monica, I felt like I was in the best hands. Aside from being knowledgable and having tons of experience, they both make you feel supported and heard. Whenever I had a question, whether in person or via text/email, they would reply with a thoughtful answer and loads of resources. When you work with LA Midwife you also get their amazing network. Each referral that I took from them (birth and pp doulas, chiro, massage, PT, birth class) was also amazing. They come up with creative solutions and always look for plans A, B, and C. I ended up transferring to the hospital and Monica worked behind the scenes to make sure that the OB on the floor was ready for me and the whole hospital staff was kind and supportive of my transfer. Even though I didn't want a hospital birth, I LOVED the birth I had thanks to their hard work. My husband and I are so insanely lucky that Monica and Jennifer took part in one of the biggest moments of our lives and look forward to our next baby just so that we can have them in our lives again!! We miss them so much and are beyond incredibly grateful that they were with us every step of the way on the journey of bringing our first baby into the world!  Going into this pregnancy, both of us didn't know anyone personally who had an unmedicated home birth. But we watched a few documentaries and realized that even though we were nervous, this was the path for us.  From first consultation to each appointment thereafter, Monica and Jennifer provided us incredible support. Their kindness, empathy and welcoming of all our questions made us feel truly validated by each experience and hurdle we were going through week to week. From each decision from opting in and out of certain tests, to circumcision to third trimester ultrasound, we talked through each one and felt empowered by our decisions (which is so extremely helpful as first time parents, when there's so many things to navigate through).  We can't thank them enough for going above and beyond for us, for helping connect us to resources like a doula, placenta encapsulation, and lactation consultant and extending the same care to us that the closest of family would.  If you are seeking options for a water birth, freedom to move around in different positions during labor, the desire to include your older children (if you're second time parents and beyond), those are all perfect reasons to go the home birth route.  If you imagine wanting and needing respectful and Intuitive guidance (not to mention support for your birth partner) through labor, thoughtful guidance on the path to recovery, a safe place for your emotions, someone to answer all your parenting questions, natural ways for working through issues like jaundice, a vote of confidence, and the ultimate support parenting post-partum, then those are also perfect reasons to have Monica and Jennifer as your midwives.  They take care of baby, Mommy and family! I would give them 500 stars if I could. Monica and Jennifer are hands down the most amazing healthcare professionals I've ever worked with. They supported me for the birth of my first child, and the experience was everything I could have hoped for in working with midwives. They will no doubt be who I go to for baby #2 (and #3 and #4) when it comes time! I sought midwifery care because I believe birth is natural and was determined to allow it to happen as such with minimal intervention. I felt intuitively drawn to home birth from the start, but the fears of others made me second guess myself. Though I loved Jennifer and Monica when I interviewed them, I decided to start my prenatal care with the midwives at UCLA, who would deliver the baby at the UCLA birthing center. The UCLA midwives were perfectly nice, but the appointments felt quick and clinical, and the care felt totally standard and non-personal. During my second trimester I decided to follow my intuition and transfer care to LA Midwife Collective - it was the best decision. My husband and I got to know both Monica and Jennifer very well during the prenatal visits, with 1-hour appointments alternating from one to the other. Their office has a warm and loving atmosphere and I genuinely enjoyed going in for appointments as Jennifer and Monica quickly began to feel like good friends. They empowered me to make informed decisions for myself and my baby every step of the way - Monica leans heavily on evidence and Jennifer often brings to the table her practical view as a mother. The birth itself was smooth and perfect. No complications, no tearing, no interventions. In the tub during delivery I was calmly encouraged to listen to my body, neither stepped in to interrupt the process when it was running smoothly on its own. But when I was having a bit of trouble, Monica was right there to aid me, and then just as quickly she backed off to allow me to finish the delivery on my own. It was as if Monica and Jennifer could sense exactly what I could handle. Throughout my birth experience I felt totally supported, but also completely empowered. And the support didn't end there... the postpartum support was truly exceptional. A friend of mine had a baby around the same time as me and when we were trading stories a few weeks in she was amazed at how much more calm I was and how much I seemed to know. She asked who my pediatrician was, assuming they were responsible, but I explained that my midwives were actually the ones who had helped me mitigate many post-birth concerns. I had visits from both Monica and Jennifer within the first week and outstanding text message support from Monica throughout - we must have texted almost every day for 2-3 weeks! As a first time mom, it was really special to have someone to go to with just about any question without feeling silly. Monica and Jennifer provided the intimate, extremely well-informed, mom-centric prenatal care I hoped for. Prenatal appointments were each an hour long and allowed space for discussions of any kind about baby, evidence-based practices, the emotional states of both my partner and me, and anything else I wanted to discuss. The long prenatal appointments also allowed for important relationship building which led to an incredible foundation of trust necessary for a safe home birth. I couldnt have been more relieved to have had Monica and Jennifer on my team for delievery. They were both very loving, understanding, knowledgable and comforting. I was pregnant during COVID lockdown and there were a lot of uncertainties and unease, so I was often emotional, unsure about how things would play out, yet every visit I had with them, I walked away feeling so cared for and relaxed. I had my seventh baby with Jennifer and Monica (as well as Johanna) and I couldn't have been more satisfied with my birthing experience. Each appointment was personal, thorough, professional and thoughtful and what surprised me was how they truly my wellbeing as a whole and made sure so many areas were accounted for and working smoothly. It's not the typical OBGYN experience at all! They have time and actually talk extensively with you for an hour and truly care. My husband was able to join at every step of the way. Each visit left me informed with many resources and understanding and I felt very taken care of. I was able to reach out whenever anything came up and they responded quickly and were always available. I felt cared for and valued throughout the pregnancy and during my birth and postpartum. This was my first experience after 6 hospital births and I can say hands down that choosing to have Jenn and Monica (and Johanna) deliver my baby at home was the best choice for me, my family and my baby. THESE TWO! Game changers. Completely changed my pregnancy experience and I could not be more grateful. I never thought I would have a home birth, but half way through my pregnancy and hours of research on hospital vs. home birth later, I came to the conclusion that a home birth might be a better fit for me after all. They completely changed my perspective on what it means to be truly cared for during the prenatal, labor, and postpartum stages of pregnancy. When I was under the care of a top OB-GYN, I felt rushed in prenatal appointments and unsupported. Jennifer and Monica are the best! I was looking for a more intimate experience with baby #2 (the midwives at UCLA were nice, but that was still a hospital experience with baby #1). I was able to form a relationship with both of them on the prenatal visits and then when the time came they allowed me and my husband to have our own uninterrupted experience. They came and set up like the pros they are, then when they noticed baby and I were ready they invited me to move into the birthing pool; they gave me space when I needed it, and encouragement when I thought I wanted to quit. The follow-up visits were great too since they gave us care from the comfort of our home. All tests were done either at their office or in our home and our older son was able to participate which made the whole experience more natural, comfortable, and intimate. If we decide to have more kids we will definitely go back to Monica and Jennifer. read more

Where to even begin? My love and gratitude for these beautiful women is immeasurable. I had my first child at a birthing center and was lucky enough to be assigned to Jennifer. Her warmth and candor was exactly what I needed as a first time mom. She answered every question that I had directly, and with out bias. From the moment I met her, she had my complete trust. Unfortunately, my daughter decided to make an early appearance and came while Jennifer out of town. My delivery was still absolutely incredible, but when I learned I was pregnant with my second, it was Jennifer who I wanted along for the journey with me. After learning she was no longer at the birthing center, I seriously tracked her down stalker style and found she was part of the L.A Midwife Collective. Having a home birth had never crossed my mind as an option. I live in a small apartment, and the logistics of the prep and cleanup, not to mention the noise level, made it seem impossible, but Jennifer quickly put our minds at ease. Once again, my prenatal care from Jennifer was impeccable, and after meeting Monica as my backup midwife I was 100% confident in my decision to go this route. Upon Monica's first embrace I knew I would be in great hands if Jennifer couldn't attend the birth.......and as luck would have it, my second daughter decided to come almost 2 weeks early, and on the only weekend Jennifer said she wouldn't be available. I went into active labor mere hours before she was scheduled to go out of town, but she still came over and didn't leave my side until she knew I was completely comfortable and ok with her leaving. When she did go, Johanna tagged in, and her and Monica were AMAZING. My labor was a bit different than my first, and they were the perfect calm I needed whenever I got a bit worried about how things were going. I never felt rushed, or pressured. I felt completely in control of my body and my birth. This is definitely a dance Monica has mastered. She followed my cues and seemed to know what I needed before I did. And when my baby girl was crowning and I instinctively reached down to pull her out myself, I had the freedom to do so. It was one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had. As for the logistics, they couldn't have made things any easier. It was simple to order the birthing supplies I needed, and the tub I rented from them was so comfortable my husband and I joked about purchasing one for our bedroom permanently. Quarters were a bit tight, but manageable, and I was grateful to be able to labor in my own environment. As for cleanup, I was amazed at how quickly things were cleaned and put away. And I can't guarantee it for everyone, but we didn't have any noise complaints. My neighbors were actually shocked to learn I had her at home. I can't recommend Jennifer and Monica enough. Although I do have to warn you, you WILL fall in love with these women, and will seriously question having another child just to spend more time with them. read more

I found LA midwife collective on Yelp when I was around 20 weeks pregnant with baby #2. I had had my first baby in a birth center, which was great, but a little too far away. I hoped to find a way to birth at home with the same level of care as at the birth center. Let me tell you, dear people of Yelp: I was blown away. If I have any more babies, I hope I can have Jennifer and Monica there by my side. They are exactly who you want when you are going through the process of pregnancy and birth. They are caring, sensitive, good-natured, and wise. They have your best interest as a woman and future/current mother in mind when they advise and inform you of your options throughout the pregnancy process. I now have a beautiful, healthy baby boy that I can proudly say was born at our home early one morning a few months ago. The birth was a great joy and I felt exuberant to have just the midwives, my husband and I at home in those wee hours bringing baby down and out into the world. You have so many options in selecting a care provider for the birth of your child, and I hope that you find the people that can uplift and encourage you the way that Monica and Jennifer did for me. read more

First time Mother who cannot imagine having anyone else guide me through childbirth. It's hard to put into words how skilled and nurturing Jennifer and Monica are. I was using Kaiser and LA Midwife Collective and stopped Kaiser after my last ultrasound. Everytime I left my appointments with Jennifer or Monica I felt so blessed to have there care and sad thinking about those mother's only experiencing Kaiser's cold non-personable practice. These ladies left me feeling so secure throughout my whole birth, I reflect back and giggle because I barely came with any questions as I knew I was in good hands. My labor at home transitioned to the hospital and I had no fear the whole time because I knew I still had their care at the hospital and it all worked out wonderfully even though it wasn't what was planned. We don't have family around and Jennifer and Monica became our family. They are down to earth and we shared a lot of laughs which was not expected, I thought seeing a midwife would be talking about rainbows and butterflies, I was happy to get a spiritual yet down to earth midwife team.
