Since we were in Paris in mid-August (during the Feast of the Assumption), our options for…read morerestaurants were much fewer than usual. Nevertheless, there was one place within walking distance of our hotel that was open and looked inviting. L'Ile Au Blé Noir is small but it glows with Parisian charm. It has wooden floors, walls, and tables with pretty French décor interspersed throughout. For our main course, we decided to try one of the specials of the day--filet mignon with a cream sauce and tagliatelle paired with a rose cider. Both choices turned out to be wonderful! Being in Paris, we could not finish dinner without dessert so we ordered their buckwheat pancakes (crepes) with warm chocolate, caramel made with salted butter, and two scoops of ice cream. This was without a doubt the BEST crepe I have ever had in my life! We were so in love with L'Ile Au Blé Noir that we came back for dinner the following night and ordered exactly the same things again! On our journey home, while sharing stories with other travelers about where we stayed, a gentleman noted, "Oh, you were staying near the best creperie in Paris! You would have loved it..." When we asked what it was called, he answered "L'Ile Au Blé Noir." We both beamed with joy over our good fortune to have stumbled upon this place!
