The decor is very smart, black and white art deco-inspired, which has really cheered up the site which always appeared rather dark in the past. When I think of tapas I expect a relaxed to boisterous experience, flamenco and jugs of Sangria. Sabroso caters for a more sophisticated clientele and should be very popular with the more conservative Holland Park set. Back to breakfast, though, which was great albeit not particularly Spanish. They offer a choice of pastries and cooked options. I have never been given the choice of half an English breakfast before and just couldn't resist I'm scared to imagine what size the full portion would have been as the half was very generous and good value at £4.95. A vegetarian alternative is also available (full size only), as well as the usual egg-based dishes. Sabroso offers a soothing alternative to the aforementioned cafes which are dominated by yummy mummies and their offspring at this time of day. The service was particularly friendly, and I will try and find an excuse to visit again soon.

My friend and I made a pit stop for drinks and tapas after a full day of the Notting Hill Carnival. Once drinks are ordered, the tapas can be selected from a large buffet table/counter on the right side of the restaurant. Each appetizer plate costs £2.50. Overall, of the tapas we ordered, we liked the flavors but didn't like how some of the food was not hot or cold as intended. I kept my eye at the buffet table/counter for the recently served items. I wouldn't consider this a foodie destination though. *Note: the place is also known as Pix Bar or Pintxos.

Sangria was a good but a bit sweet, so decided to switch it up to beers for round 2 which hit the spot! Service was a bit slow for what I'd expect from food in a mall, but we were tiered and not in a rush to get back on our feet. In fact, we were so tiered we didn't even bother to browse the menu, and ordered the set menu for 2 to share for £11.50 per person. It was a nice way to try a bunch of items and a good value and perfect for two to share. There is also a fancier set menu for £15.50 with a bit more meat options. Overall, I thought it was a fun way to end a day of shopping. Set menu included: Pan con aioli (bread and olive oil) Tortilla de patatas (traditional Spanish style egg omelet with potatoes) Paella de mariscos (seafood paella, very tasty!) Chorizo al horno (good 'ole chorizo. Yum) Albondigas (meatballs in tomato sauce - I think the meat was lamb) Patatas bravas (crispy roasted potatoes in a spicy tomato sauce)

A lovely day with brunch in London and a show followed by what was meant to be a lovely Spanish tapas. Issues 1 - when we got there we had booked for 7pm but there were no tables free. The way they looked was as if they hadn't reserved our table. We were asked if we wanted to sit down in the basement bit which was ok but not much atmosphere. Not great when it was booked weeks ago and booked under birthday celebrations. Issue 2 - the service was very slow. We ordered half a bottle of wine and tap water. The wine took 10+ minutes and no water. We said we were ready for food so she said she'd be 1 minute. 10 minutes later she returned. We had to ask again for the tap water. In the middle of eating the waitress also put her handed over the pouring part of the jug to check if there was water left... why would you touch it? Issue 3 - the table behind us who ordered after us get received all their food first .. where was ours? 10 minutes later she tried to give them one of our dishes, then we finally got it. But that was it. Fed up of waiting for the rest we ate the one tapas and then I complained to the waitress that it was now nearly an hour and 15 minutes since we ordered and we had got one dish! Issue 4- 10 minutes after my complaint about the time she came over to tell us one of the 4 dishes we ordered wasn't available. This was an hour and 20 minutes after we ordered! Ridiculous! We ordered a different choice; to be told a few minutes later this was available either. What Spanish tapas restaurant doesn't have chorizo...? ‍10 minutes later the rest of our food arrived, one hot, one rarely luke warm. Issue 5- a Spanish tapas meal, with 3 dishes and wine took 2 hours!!!! 2 hours!! Issue 6- I wanted to speak to the manager about the service, being put downstairs, the time to get food. His response, well that dish is popular... why take an hour and 20 minutes to tell me it isn't available! The rest he brushed aside and didn't have time for us. We paid the full bill, we got nothing as an apology and even were given a bill with a service charge on which we asked to be taken off! To still no apology and a disgusted look. I will absolutely not come here again, nor will I recommend it to anyone else. Absolutely appalling service and not an ounce of accountability or apology!

The tapas are fairly priced IMO but the mains a bit pricier. We had no drinks. We were greeted with a friendly arrival and seated promptly and menus came quickly as well. But here it got kinda weird because a brunette waitress that gave us olives for the table seemed really offended that we didn't want them and asked for them to be taken away. She then became short with us whilst taking our orders. Anyway the food came quickly and I thought mine were quite good. The aubergine was appropriately cheesy and the texture was perfect: creamy and soft. The two peppers were overstuffed with bacalao which was very savoury. Overall a good stop in the area but the waitress' attitude was a turnoff.

I was lucky on my visit that it was a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon, so we decided to sit outside. We were also lucky to get a table outside as it was so busy. What I also noticed was that most of the diners seated around us where Spanish, which to me was a good sign. We decided on a selection of tapas to share. We went for Croquetas caseras de Jamón ~ Homemade Ham Croquettes, Albóndigas de Ternera "La Bodega"~ Meat Balls "La Bodega" Style 100% Beef, Pimientos de Padrón "uns pican e outros non"~ Sauteed Little Green Peppers from "Padrón" with Sea Salt, Chorizo a la Sidra ~ "Chorizo" cooked in Cider and Pan con tomate y aceite de oliva. "Pan Tumaca"~ Bread with tomato and virgin olive oil. This was washed down with a large jug of Sangria. Everything was really tasty. In fact the portions were very large so we did not manage to finish everything. La Bodega is situated in a nice quite spot off Portabello Road. It has a great atmosphere and you could almost feel that you've been transported to Spain for a couple of hours. Groups of Spanish youth congregated later in the afternoon to watch the La Liga soccer match showing on the television. In fact it was so nice, we were joined by friends after we had eaten to just sit there in the sun and enjoy a few beers. A perfect way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon in my book.
