Probably my fave Italian when in London, and great for meeting up with my friends for a catch up! No matter how busy, I can usually get in, and food arrives promptly. Despite a large pizza menu, you can still mix and match (for example, I wanted half the pizza with onions and mushrooms, the other simply cheese and tomato, and they did this no problem, albeit gave me a strange look!). The prices are good too (especially for the area), and it's nice and clean. The service is simple, neither friendly nor rude. I prefer to visit independantly owned restaurants as opposed to chains, so will always choose here over the Pizza Express located just round the corner. This place is addictive by having really really nice pizza. Easily located on the Muswell Hill Broadway it is always chocker, but not so busy that you can't get a table, the longest I've waited is 5 mins. It has a relaxed yet chaotic feel to it and if someone is celebrating their birthday don't jump out your seat when the waiting staff start blowing trumpets and hitting drums whilst '21 today' is played and pizza dough is chucked on the lucky (or unlucky depending on your view) birthdayee. I have found out though that THE most delightful way to eat their scrumptious Italian food is in the comfort of your own home. I live 5 mins walk away so call in my order, walk up and it's virtually ready! And it's not just pizza you can take away - their pasta can also be brought home too (also good to note if you eat in and can't manage it all - doggy bags aren't frowned upon - yeah!) ! I haven't tried a lot of their pasta dishes as I love the pizzas (which are huge and on a lovely thin crisp base) but the ones I have (Spag bol & carbonara) are good, not amazing, not the greatest but good and enjoyable - and at around £5 - 7 per dish pretty cheap for London! We have the choice of La Porchetta or Pizza Express - La Porchetta wins every time, pizza and garlic bread withcheese for about £11! Great stuff!!! One of the main things I miss about Muswell Hill since I moved are the fantastic eateries and delis, I'm still occasionally tubing it completely out of my zone to come to this pizza restaurant as I just can't kick the habit! You can either collect and take away, or sit in the simple, light restaurant. We used to call in for a study break, just to escape the house, but as the service is lacking smiles to say the least, it's best if you take away and enjoy their enormous offerings on the couch at home. The open theatre-style pizza preparation near the entrance is great to watch as you wait for a take out and the chefs are much friendlier than the brusque waiting staff. They are ENORMOUS, and I've never managed to eat a whole one (not for want of trying) so if we ever do eat in we always ask for the leftovers to be boxed up to take home. Porchetta pizza is just as great for breakfast as it was the night before... if it even lasts in the fridge that long without someone snaffling it. They're so cheap as well, all well under £10 and for such fantastic food I keep wondering how this is possible! read more

Is this the original La Porchetta? Even if it isn't, it is for me. I used to come here quite regularly growing up, it was our family go-to pizza destination (alright, along with L'artista under the Golders Green tube line...). Many kids birthday parties and visiting friends were brought for hearty Italian dinners here. I still remember the possibility of a tartufo bianca after pizza if dad was in a good mood. My sister always wanted the knickerbocker glory, for the name more so than the sucrose-explosion of sticky flavoured toppings ice cream and banana which always defeated us in attempting to finish. Lots of dining space, accommodating and gregarious staff, this is a perfect family/ group dining option. I love seeing the little children lined up with their eager faces pressed against the glass bounding the 'pizza-making-zone' where you can watch the pros spin some dough to be drizzled with tomato, mozzarella and whatever other toppings you desire. Prices have gone up a little since 'back-in-the-day' (not that I used to pay when I was ten years old) but to be expected, and it is still certainly very affordable! read more

Yes, it hit the spot! Fresh pizza made in front of your eyes and delicious pastas. Highlights: Great tasting food made fresh with ample quantity, Reasonably priced, Good size clean seating area and Great customer service. Can improve: Have the option to add chicken and other meats to the pastas, The music did not really add to the experience...I love me some Vengaboys but not when I am having some pasta, The seating arrangement was a little awkward so could be revamped. Having a fair few Italian friends I always get dragged along to the local Italian Restaurant. Most are similar but La Porchetta blows the status quo out of the water. Whereas most mainstream pizzerias (like express and papa dels) default to the dry and crusty standardized pizza base La Porchetta's chefs will throw the dough in front of you. Even better the same chefs that create the base will go ahead and insert the various generic (or customized) toppings into the base (as opposed to the assembly line alternative). In short I am convinced that La Porchetta is the closest I have come to eating a Pizza at the base of the leaning tower. What loses it a star? About 1-3 times a night someone will be celebrating a birthday and you will be forced to join in on their extrovert and VERY LOUD celebration no matter what your feelings are about it. read more

La Porchetta makes the best pizza by far that I have tasted in London. They are situated next to Muswell Hill Broadway, and have always a full house. The first branch of this chain started out in Finsbury Park, where queues of people could constantly be seen out the door, giving an indication on how popular the pizza is. They serve other food, but their special pizza recipe is what gives this restaurant their oomph. Always make sure you book in advance as you're likely to be disappointed at being turned away or queueing for quite some time read more

This has been one of my favourite restaurants since it opened when I was a child. The pizza is second to none, the house red wine is nice and the prices are incredibly low. Let's be honest - it is loud, it is boistrous and it is busy. Yes, they do dump pizza dough on your head after singing you happy birthday. The staff often don't speak the best English. I wouldn't choose this restaurant for a romantic date. BUT if you want a fun night out and some good food with good friends then you really can't do better. read more

Went to Muswell Hill La Porchetta today and the service and food was awful. My fusilli with tomato, garlic and rocket was served with burnt onions which made it inedible, it was not eaten and removed from the bill. My guest's mussels were served with 70% of them unopened which meant they should not be eaten. The pizza was average and the rocket limp and yellowing. The servers were inattentive, I got our own menus, the plates were not cleared away between courses and I have never eaten a vinaigrette so thick and creamy, it was odd. I will never visit or recommend this place. read more

I'm going to have to give a slightly harsh 3, as that is how I would rate the pizza I had here. My Americana was average among Amercanos! Their house red was most quaffable and maybe it was because I hadn't had ice cream in years (honestly) but their ice cream was delicious..especially Vanillawhich is surely the ready salted of ice creams? I don't remember ice cream being this nice or I'd scoff it more! Unfortunately the waiting staff who served us seemed to fall into two categories, miserable and confused. I visited La Porchetta on about 5 friend's recommendations and was not disappointed! My partner and I ordered pizzas and were both delighted! The food was with us within 5 minutes, despite a busy weekend lunch-time crowd and was one of the nicest I've had for ages! The place is family run and they also do a take away service. Always a great atmosphere and it's reasonable value for money but there are better places to eat in Muswell. Service is great. The pizzas are good but I'd recommend staying away from the pasta. Went here as part of our wedding anniversary day out. My wife said she had been to a La Porchetta in Islington. Having got home it looks like this place is not connected to the family chain. Staff seemed off or not interested. Food awful. I did not want to make a fuss and ruin the day out. My surprise was my wife complained which she never has done. My main course came in a bowl which was cracked and glued back together. Bland as a description makes the food sound appetising. Trust me it wasn't. read more

I have been coming to La Porchetta in Muswell Hill for around 10 odd years as I used to work in the area so you would think I would have tried everything on the menu. The funny thing is, I can't remember ever ordering any main other than the Calzone. The reason for this is simple... it is just that good! By far the best Calzone I have ever had in London. I have tried loads of the starters and they are great too but nothing can beat my Calzone. It is stuffed to the brim with mozzarella, pepperoni, mushrooms, herbs and that delicious sauce. The pizza base is light and fluffy and soaks up all the tasty goodness perfectly. Add a bit of black pepper and I am in heaven. I can't remember the quality of the calzone ever dropping in all the years I have eaten here and as long as that continues I will eat here. People that I have taken along say that the other dishes on the menu are also good but I only have eyes for one thing! Can you guess what it is? read more

Wow - never in my life of traveling the world and eating at every kind of restaurant you can imagine have I ever come across such a rude and obnoxious waitress/manager as I just came across at this 'restaurant'. Don't know her name but she was on duty Monday evening Sept 29, 2014. My third visit to this place in a week and never will I be back. Re-Opening night I was there and had great service and even was surprised to get a half price discount for opening day. Five pound tip for pizza for one too by the way. Went back two days later not bad and good service with a tall Italian guy who knows what's what. Third night I get this mental case who doesn't listen and can't get an order right. When you tell her she got the order wrong she says no she didn't - and asked you to write it down exactly on her order pad - unreal. I said let me order from the other great waiter guy. She says no! She should be working at cubicle and not interacting with humans. If you see a petite brunette working at this place - leave! read more
