Gorgeous-tasting sour bread loaves @ Eco in Clapham
Helen D.

I was fortunate enough to get an invite to the Christmas Sourdough Bread Celebration Evening (as a result of being a Yelp member as it goes!) and can confirm it was off-the-hook!!! I'll talk about the four main things ; the food, the drink, the service and the venue itself The food consisted of pizza bread thingies, the freshest most lovely antipasti trays I have ever witnessed/experienced, gorgeously moist cocktail cheeses and olives and that sour bread. That sour bread really has to be tasted to be believed. I have never had sour bread like it. It looked so unassuming, almost like the kind of rustic scones my granny in Ireland used to make. But it did not taste like a rustic scone, no Siree! I'm not over-exagerrating when I say it was like a flavour explosion inside my mouth. It almost felt like eating a fizzy drink, if that makes sense. It blew my mind and was beyond delicious. The drink (which there was copious amounts of, coupled with staff regularly going round topping up our glasses) consisted of red and white wine. I opted for the red. It tasted top quality. The service was great. Smiley faces all round ; the staff were super accomodating! They really did everything they could to ensure we all had a great night. The venue itself was lovely. Comforting wooden tables and elegant, understated Christmas decorations. I have enclosed some photos so do be sure to check them out. I will definetly be returning to Eco!

Mmmm... Nom, nom, nom... Eco is such a great place to eat. You can sit in or take away - the pizzas are great. I think I prefer this place for lunch. It feels like the kind of place you go to after a little afternoon shop. It's nice sitting at the window, munching on a pizza, people watching. The pizzas are totally delicious and taste homemade. There's nothing bad about this place at all - affordable, post-shopping friendly pizzas on a Saturday afternoon are one of my favourite things on Clapham High Street.

Chiswick has it fair share of restaurants and especially pizza joints with the normal chains in attendance generally doing an average job. Eco on the high road however is different. This is the second restaurant opened by Eco - the other in Clapham and it is a very much welcomed addition to the food scene in Chiswick. A modern and contemporary feel to this place that is dominated by the open plan kitchen and smart bar, the pizza's and pasta's and other Italian dishes are simply stunning and with the chef's tossing the pizza's it makes for an experience rather than a meal. An excellent and varied menu to suit everyone (try the frogs leg's pizza) with excellent service, great atmosphere and wonderful food.

I love pizza and like to consider myself a bit of a conosseiur (brb two-for-one is my fav for value and Story Deli on Dray Walk the best for quality) and eco is an excellent contender for that best pizza spot. I'm not so keen on the restaurant itself (uninspiring and bland) but the product itself is brilliant - huge wood fired pizzas with interesting toppings such as Chilli and Coriander, or Bresaola and Rocket. I used to get a take-away from here regularly on a Saturday night when trying to avoid the Clapham weekend crowds. A good film from filmnight, an Eco pizza and a bottle from Oddbins- now that's a good Clapham night-in.

Their decorations.

However, I need to warn my fellow Yelpers to stay away from Oliveto if you value Good Pizza! I mean, how hard is it to have good pizza!?! It is a simple staple which I have enjoyed in the US, in China and yes even in Italy. At it's most basic, it should be dough, sauce (doesn't have to be tomato necessarily), mozzarella and maybe some toppings, right? Here is where Oliveto went wrong for my mother and me: 1) they use cheap cheddar cheese - not mozzarella! 2) not a lot of sauce, maybe just enough to color it 3) the dough was soggy and didn't rise (I actually like thin crust, but this was inferior doug and 4) topping that were not as advertised, i.e. prosciutto should not look like and taste like store-bought sliced ham! Service was okay - the men like to talk about customers in their native tongue, thinking that patrons don't know what they are saying about them. We were so glad that we split a pie - most tables got a pie per person. Neither of us could finish this "pizza" honestly. Perhaps the only redeeming thing are the prices - this might be the cheapest choice in an otherwise expensive neighborhood.

Great, great pizza! Staff is super friendly and efficient in moving tables. The sausage pizza…read moremaybe one of the best I've had in a while. House rose was on point and the pacing of the food was solid. The only downside was the noice level. Super loud. Could be managed with some under the table sound damping. We will return for sure

It is a small sit, so reservations are a must, although they did accommodate some walk-ins. Everything was freshly made which added to an elevated experience. Service was perfect balance of being prepared to execute as well as being able to spending time getting to know each other. This palace is highly recommended!

My mom is, which is why we went but there are rather limited options, at least on pasta courses, that don't include pecorino. 2 - we tried three different pasta dishes. What made them truly stand out was the freshness of the pasta. That said, the sauces weren't remarkable. I tried a special pasta with pecorino, butternut squash, and mushrooms which was nice and not heavy but not partial flavorful. 3 - the ambiance is great if you like a small restaurant- with maybe 10 tables and 500 sq ft of space, this restaurant has character and charm. 4 - the service was outstanding. The staff were kind and efficient. 5 - the dessert was just OK - had some scoops of ice cream and the peanutella was outstanding while the strawberry and the pistachio were just fine. 6 - the appetizer cheese plate was the real highlight of the night here. Fresh cold cuts and cheese with the most wonderful fig jam. All in all; this is a good stop and you certainly won't have a bad experience! Perhaps just not the most notable.

While it is a beautiful date place, I will say the only con is you're very close to each other. You practically could hear each other's conversation even though it's a quiet environment. Even tables away, you can hear everyone. I did enjoy how upon entering, they request if you'd like your jacket hung and assist for no charge. I ordered the lamb chops and personally I wouldn't recommend. For the price, I was disappointed in the size. While in the photo they may look large, the chops were almost the same size as the potatoes on the left. So although they were seasoned really well, you'll still be hungry after. The old fashioned was very pleasant however. Would recommend for sure!
