We then spent 45 minutes walking around a large room with dinosaur fossils, explanations, a few animals (lizard, chicks, turtle) with a guide to tell us about a few, and various thorough explanatory signs. We then went out the back and did a trail that was about a 1-mile circle that was a little hilly - to see the bisons at the far end - and a barn full of chickens and some machinery. We saw about 4 rotted out Studebakers just off the trail. Took about 40 minutes. Would have been nicer to have a couple benches along the way or where the bison are. Then we spent 15 minutes between the chocolate shop and gift shop. There was goat food for sale, but we didn't find the goats. All-in-all, clean, friendly people, nice way to spend a couple hours for older kids or adults. They did have a fossil dig, better for smaller children.

So, we decided on a road trip to South Bend, Indiana, to see the Chicago Cubs' Minor League Basebll (MiLB) High-A affiliate team, the South Bend Cubs. Also, previous reviews mention their former name, the South Bend Silver Hawks (1994-2014). We were surprised we could sit behind the dugout for $13.00 per seat. Most other Low-A to High-A teams are closer to the $20.00 range. Next, to be a stadium that opened in 1987, it was one of the cleanest ballparks. Not spotless, but clean for a ballpark that can seat up to five thousand per game. We were also surprised that they still packed the stadium even though it wasn't a special giveaway event (e.g., free hat, shirt, etc.). Plus, the crowd was really focused on the game, so it was a solid experience for anyone who loves baseball. If you're reading this review and contemplating driving to South Bend for a MiLB game, be like Nike and just do it.

When you come in, you go to the right and spend time going through a large room that takes about 45 minutes to cover. Then you go downstairs right below and there's a winding path that takes another 45 minutes. Right outside that winding path is a sizable children's play area where small kids can go "back in time". When returning to the main floor, there are a few exhibits as you head to the carriage house. You can add a guided tour of the Oliver Mansion. Yet, those tours are only at 1:00 and 2:00 as I type. So plan accordingly. We found the museum very enlightening. We were able to take the tour, which gave a great sense for the richest people in South Bend from over 100 years ago - but it's not a show-stopper by any means if you don't do it and just do the main museum. They've got a lot of period exhibits with great artifacts and signage.

Fortunately we arrived at the right time as there are only two tours per day. We had ample time to tour the Studebaker Museum and then joined the mansion tour. The mansion has 38 rooms and was built in 1895-96 and was beautifully finished in almost every part. J. D. Oliver was president of the Oliver Chilled Plow Works and grew the company into one of the largest in the world in the late 1800's. The home was called, "Copshaholm" which was the name of the Scottish village the Olivers were from. Of interest to me was the degree of finish quality especially the woodwork. The home remained totally furnished which from my perspective was nice as many tours we've been on featured large, empty rooms. Despite the home being so old, there was a pretty good air handling system that even on this brutally hot day, we remained comfortable. After visiting the Studebaker and History Museums, we hit a favorite restaurant before driving home. All in all a very good day.

This is a very nice local fair way down in Marshall County, Indiana. The Marshall County Blueberry Festival is held around Labor Day each year, and anyone who knows berries knows that the blueberry season has long since passed. So, other than a timing issue since the berry season has passed, this fair is a local delight even without fresh berries. Over the years this fair has really grown - now encompassing an area for kids amusement rides, an area for adult amusement rides, a softball field area where a large fastpitch tournament is held each season, rows and rows of canopies selling all sorts of fair food and knick knacks, and typical fair stuff. While I did not count the canopies, there had to be over 100 booths around the fairgrounds. And yes, there is probably a booth selling every kind of deep fried food you can think of - including elephant ears (aka fried dough or funnel cakes), fried Oreos, foot long corn dogs, etc. and etc. They also have Amish pies, blueberry donuts, lemon shake ups, Philly sandwiches, tenderloin sandwiches, hamburgers, and on and on. This is all held at Centennial Park in Plymouth, Indiana just off US 30 (https://www.blueberryfestival.org/). Events include 5K walks and a 15K run, car shows, tractor pulls, a Labor Day parade, and a fireworks show. It is hard to get your arms around how big this event is - but visit one year and you'll see for yourself. Parking is easy (usually $10) and they have a tram that will cart you in from the entrance to the activities. Now 56 years old, this is a great fest to try at the end of the summer season. And yes it is typical fair food, you don't come here looking for a meal of kale anything. Give this event a try at the end of summer.

Real apples picked at the correct time from an orchard are so incredibly packed with flavor, with no wax, are so worth a trip! This orchard has lots of variety and the apples are incredible!! They are very nice people, explain about the different varieties and let you sample. This orchard has a range of varieties you can't find elsewhere. We bought three varieties and they all taste incredible and just the right texture and big too! They also have a couple varieties of pears, including a small gourmet pear. You won't believe the flavor! I would recommend this orchard over many others we have visited. They take extra care with everything and select the best quality for sale.
