This place is amazing. It's a lot of food so come hungry. This is not the normal size tapas you may be used to. Order wisely.

I walked into Via Colon on a lark, and was greeted immediately at the door. I told them that I was cold and asked if they had hot tea. The waitress ushered me over to a table by the window, and promptly brought me tea. She was so nice! I stayed for a meal, and had the BLT. It was good, and certainly satisfied the need. (Probably a 3- or 4-star meal, but I bumped the review to 5 given how accommodating and friendly the staff was. Read on.) After the sandwich, I was onto my 2nd cup of tea, and wanted a pastry to go with it. They have a good selection. The waitress ushered me over to take a look at their pastries at the counter. (Almost had a tapas feel to it, except it was a countertop full of pastries.) I wanted something with fruit in it, and she described some of the pastries they had, but thought I might find them too sweet, and suggested that I might be happier with a blueberry muffin instead. I don't know how she could possibly have known what I would like or wouldn't like, but the muffin ended up being an excellent choice for me (and went well with the tea to boot!). Note: when I was there, no one in the place spoke English. Great chance to practice your Spanish, if you're so inclined, although the dialect can be a bit challenging (but nowhere near as challenging as Malagueño).

We were getting really hungry, and afraid we'd have to capitulate and settle for a sandwich... ...and then this happened! Not only did we find a restaurant with a very pleasant ambiance and a wonderful waitstaff, but with a creative and tasty menu as well. ...and open when WE were hungry! The menu features quite a number of tapas, salads, combination plates and desserts - but we were both called to the "Specialties of the House." My wife's vegetarian lasagna was as loaded with flavor as it was with spinach. The pasta was cooked just right; the cheese was... incredible. And the sauce provided just the right amount of saltiness to round it all out. I'd give it a 95 out of 100. I opted for the "Revuelto con Esparrago Fresco y Langostinos." This was a MOUND of fresh, gently sautéed asparagus layered with large, peeled shrimp, and bound together with scrambled egg. Now, I can put away some food, but this was just HUGE. The asparagus was very tasty indeed, as was the shrimp - but there is a limit to how much I can eat, and I just couldn't finish it all! It was DELICIOUS and I wouldn't hesitate to order it again, but would prefer to share with someone. We'd read Linda C.'s review about the carrot cake, and we were sold on that, so... yeah, it was wonderfully presented, and gratefully eaten! All in all, this place merited all five stars.

It was packed with locals but you won't get the same service as a tourist (at least we didn't). Both of us spoke some Spanish but were clearly not fluent, and the waiter was blunt from the start. We ordered two drinks that were supposed to come with tapas - everyone around us got theirs with their drink right away. The waiter didn't bring ours out until much later when a local lady noticed he didn't bring us anything and pointed it out to him. If it wasn't for her, I'm sure he would have assumed we didn't know any better and cheated us. As for the plates we ordered, they were thoroughly average. The patatas bravas were pretty good but didn't stand out compared to others we've had. Maybe our bad experience was due to one waiter, but I still wouldn't go back.

I had their picadillo soup ( ham and egg soup) which was delicious. We shared a plate of clams which were fresh, not sandy and plentiful -- and also the sea bass. The flavors were very good, tasted fresh. The seabass, one portion was mildly undercooked but it did not bother us. Overall we had a great dinner. Service was friendly and pretty attentive for Spanish time standards. Would recommend if you enjoy seafood, and the area is lovely -- great to sit outside on a nice day to enjoy the terrace.
