Too many pintxos in the last 5 days. So sad that this place delivered such dissatisfaction. What a pleasant surprise! This restaurant is located in the Plaza del Castillo, right at the center of town. Al fresco seating makes for a lovely and leisurely lunch setting and it's fun to watch people enjoying the plaza. They have a very extensive menu, ranging from wood fired pizza, fresh and dry pastas, meat and seafood entrees, and a variety of appetizers. We chose to share the black pepper carpaccio (carpaccio di vitello pepe negro) with wine (me) and beer (hubs) to start and the fresh tagliatelle with their Casalinga sauce, which includes pork sausage, tomatoes, basil, mushrooms, and pine nuts in a pink sauce. Our server informed us that the pasta was quite large and we should share - good call because we were stuffed by the time we got up! Our carpaccio arrived with a large flatbread alongside. The beef was gorgeous andlarge shavings of Parmesan on top. Some lemon juice and olive oil finished the plate, lending a brightness to each delectable bite we put together. So good! Pasta followed quickly after our appetizer was cleared. The pasta was wonderful - with the right amount of texture. The sauce coated each strand but the pasta itself was not overly saucy. Just a great preparation by the kitchen! The food was excellently prepared with quality ingredients and pretty affordable. I was surprised to find out that La Tagliatella is a chain of restaurants - it certainly did not feel like one! Very nice Italian restaurant. Food was actually very good. Only reason why the 4 stars is because of the poor wait service. At first the hostess was our order and then several random people came to help us at our prompting. Not once did anyone come to ask us how we were doing. read more

This place was way better than I expected it to be! Being right on the main square, and an Italian place in the midst of Basque Spain, I had pretty low expectations. I was thinking, "tourist food." What a pleasant surprise when the food ended up being really delicious! I was even able to get a gluten-free meal with no trouble at all (disclaimer: I am not Celiac, just gluten intolerant, so cross-contamination is not a big issue for me. I can't speak to how well this place keeps things segregated). Our table ordered several salads to share and they were fresh and tasty. We also got some of the foccacia bread, which was a basket with different types of foccacia strips that all looked incredible, and the black pepper carpaccio. The carpaccio was particularly excellent, and also a large portion. Sharing multiple dishes for the first course in this way is typical of the area, so first course portions are usually pretty large. I got the tomato and bacon risotto and I was really sad not to have a place to keep the leftovers. It was so damn good! The portion was easily enough for two meals. Because I am intolerant of gluten, dairy, onion, garlic, and all manner of other things, I had been having a rough time with meals up until this point. The Spanish really like bread and cheese. This was the first time I felt really full all week and it was such a great feeling. I think I'll be the first person in history to lose weight while in Spain. Others in our party went for the solomillo (filet mignon for us Americans), the lasagna (holy cow it was HUGE!), and the ravioli. Everyone left happy. My only complaint is that I didn't like the white wine that I got, but it was OK. Service was better than most other places. read more

I had a delicious lasagna, bread and salad here. Food tasted fresh and was very flavorful. Prices are reasonable- I spent about €20 w/tip. Being an American living abroad it was a comfort to come here because it felt like a place I could find at home. However it had more of an authentic Italian flair. We saw good reviews on Yelp, so of course we went for a meal. The portions of pasta (about 30 variations of pasta available with 20 different types of sauce) were very big, serve family style. We ordered 2 different pastas and had enough food for 4 adults. But by ordering 2 dishes we experienced 2 incredible dishes. If you love truffles, you will love the sauces available. It was an incredible meal with freshly made pasta and delicate sauces. We paid a grand total of 48.5 euros for a bottle of red wine, 2 pasta dishes, bread of the day, and 2 cafes. For the same quality of this meal in the USA, we would easily have paid $100+, and the portions of pasta would have been half. Best meal we've had in Spain after 7 days, and we've had some great food. read more
