This is SUCH a great place. I have celiac disease and was able to get a very delicious lunch. The arepas are corn meal and the ingredients are all cooked separately from anything with wheat. The bacon isn't put in the fryer. It is cooked on a pan in the oven. The empeñadas are put in a shared fryer. The staff is knowledgeable about gluten and the menu is marked with wheat symbols. 5 stars for taste. The Caracas Arepa exceeded my expectations, especially since I went in to the experience with a certain expectation of how it'd taste. The atmosphere is nothing special- an in and out (Chipotle styled?) place to grab a quick bite. I also had the guava juice which was fresh and tasty. The have a beer selection of about 7 bottles. For the fresh juice and the arepa I walked out at 8.75€, which was a bit more than I anticipated. Overall really tasty and will probably go back for lunch. read more

Ok, so I'm kinda an aprea fanantic. Like, really bad. So when I was planning a girls' trip to Barcelona and came across reviews for La Taguara, it shot right to the top of the list of planned activities. It was bomb. If you haven't had Venezuelan arepas, go. Go now and get one. La Taguara's arepas are great. And a perfect intro if it's your first experience. The arepas were packed with flavor and had the perfect crispiness on the fried outer shell. It is a stand-up and eat kind of place. Quick & dirty. If I had a chance to go again, I'd pack up a party's worth and head over to the Passeig de Joan de Borbo for a picnic. Our visit was during mid-December and they even had hallacas available!!! I have never tried arepas before,so I cannot say whether at La Taguara t hey sell authentic ones... But oh they are soooo good. I had the one with platano and some cheese from Venezuela and I loved it! They also have some great selection of fruit juices, including tropical varieties which I have seen only here, and beer from Venezuela as well. I never expected to have an arepa this good in Spain! The corn/masa exterior itself was earthy and delicious, but all the fillings packed inside really pull the flavors together. The meat is juicy, the beans smoky, and the banana/plantain sauce at the table is out of this world . I had the #5, which the owner mentioned is how arepas are preferred in South America... I loved this place. we stopped in a for a quick snack before we checked into our flat in Barcelona. They are a Venezualan taqueria specializing in arepa (a traditonal Venezualan bread made of cornmeal and stuffed with all sorts of goodies). I also tried their fresh blackberry juice (one of 12 choices) and it was amazing. The staff was super friendly, they were playing great music and the place was packed. One thing to note: no seating, just tall tables for standing and shoving your face full of deliciousness. read more

This place was an old favourite about three years ago, but I must say it's gone a bit downhill since. We came an hour before closing and they'd ran out of vegetables... who runs out of vegetables?? They're in practically every arepa they offer! The sauces were watery and kind of gross-- they used to be amazing sauces, not runny, flavourless liquid :-/ The corn sauce in particular was weirdly eggy. My friend asked for his arepa without an ingredient and they put it in anyway, which was a bit annoying. If that had been an allergy he would have had to send it back! It's quite annoying because I really do like this place; it's nice and affordable for a quick snack, and they still have pretty tasty and affordable beers! One thing to check off the "Never-Have-I-Ever" list, and that is having an arepa. We were looking for something delicious to have for dinner on a Monday night, and my friend said, "Let's get arepas!" So we did. He loves this place, and he definitely made me a fan. Be aware there is no seating. There are tables, but that's about it. The other half and I decided to each have an arepa with meat, plantain and cheese and split another cheese arepa, plus a pork cachapa and a cheese cachapa. It was a lot of food. And nothing was more than 5 Euros, so it was definitely on the cheap side of things as well. In case you don't know an arepa is kind of like a corn English muffin. Here they cut it open and stuff it with delicious goodies. A cachapa is a sweet corn pancake. The food was so good it made me ignore the fact that I was listening to reggae music and didn't have a place to sit. It was that good. I think I probably preferred the cachapa, so I highly recommend getting one of those as well if you're new to the place. The pork was super delicious and went well with the sweet pancake. However, both of them were so tasty that I casually mentioned that I may have to learn to make them at home and that was something that the other half whole-heartedly agreed with. And he thinks I may need A LOT of practice. And I think I'm definitely willing to give that a go. I was also informed that I needed to learn to make the hot sauce, the cilantro sauce and the corn sauce that they provide as well, so we'll see how it all ends up going in the future. read more

I just came back from this place and I'm thirsty like a camel because my arepa was saltier than the Dead Sea!!! I'm Venezuelan. This is not how the harina Pan should be salted. It was inedible. I have a new favorite! I had the "cachapa" with chicken and avocado. I was told, it was the first request. My friend had "la mixta" which is the arepa with everything. Prices were under 5 euros. And it was sooo good. We also had the 'papaya water" and the conservas de coco. I can't wait to try the other arepas. A must if you like this kind of food. read more

Visiting Barcelona, I was getting a little sick of stumbling upon restaurants and ending up unfulfilled. I did some research and found this place, which ended up being close to the Picasso Museum, where I was planning on spending the afternoon anyway. I am a big fan of arepas and was happy to find an arepa shop in Barcelona. The people I was traveling with had never tried them before and aren't too keen on trying new things. We all left full and happy. We all got the #5 which was wonderful with black beans, plantains, meat, and a ton of cheese. Make sure you stay and eat in so that you can try all of the sauces. Also, the tres leches cake was amazing so definitely leave room for that. The place is super casual and although there are no chairs, there are tables. Overall, this was a delicious, quick, inexpensive lunch that filled us up for a day of sightseeing. I would absolutely return. read more

Best place in Barcelona to get full for only €4. Order the #7 "la sifrina" if you go because it's the best one. It's a shredded chicken and avocado mixture with shredded cheese on top. All the sandwiches come on this bread that resembles an English muffin but tastes way better and is corn-based. So sooo good, I went here 3-4 times a week at least when I studied abroad in Barcelona. Make sure you eat the arepa in the shop because they have these 3 really tasty sauces you can put on them. They also play good music. This is the one place I will miss more than anything from Barca! read more

Not bad but don't buy into the huge yelp hype. Was decent, nothing to die for. Tried the #5 for 4.75€. Glad I can say I've tried it once to be able to pass next time someone wants to go for these. Was more of a glorified subway - Preparation time is 2 seconds. Also, no american-style portions here so didn't see the value for the $. However, still gets 3 stars because the friendly service. Would rather recommend Bo De B for a big yummy sandwich instead. Also, Mastercard only over 6€ (annoying because Mastercard works on percentage of sale so places shouldn't be allowed to do this), but you can grab a 2€ beer to make up the difference if needed, which is nice. read more

OMG... i discovered this place by accident and it quickly became my favorite place to eat while visiting in Barcelona. They make several different kinds of arepas with chicken, beef, pork, or veggie. I've never had an arepa until now, but it resembles a corn/masa style pita sandwich, and they're all affordably priced between 3-5 euros each. They're served quickly and they provide 5 condiments for you to mix and match atop your arepa(picante, mais, garlic, cilantro, and avocado). I tried the Cochina(pork), spicy chicken, and chicken with avocado and they were all delicious. My husband loved the bean and cheese arepas. They also make about 6 fresh juices daily. I tried the strawberry and the watermelon and both were delicious. There aren't any chairs but I think it's a good thing because while we were eating, several crowds of people came, so it provides for a quicker turnover for them. I will miss this place, but I hope to find arepas near where I live soon! read more
