I've been going to La Tapatia #2 for many years now. I first started going because there is often a Tamale vendor (affiliated with Tamale Factory) who sells on the sidewalk outside. I've learned that you can grab some tamales, run into the market and top off with some sides, and be out the door with a ready-to-serve meal in under 5 minutes. The location is very convenient, right at Cleveland and Powell, with a small but easy-to-use parking lot. I've also started to pick up grocery basics when I go in. Milk, fruits, vegetables. The staff are friendly, they accept credit cards, and while Spanish is definitely what most people are speaking, there are quite a few English speakers as well. Recently, they expanded into the space next door and are making a larger panderia (bakery). I'm so excited to see how that shapes up over time! Super Meat Market La Tapatia #2 is the best discovery I have found since I have started yelping. The number two in the title means that the first one was good enough to build a second one. There are several almost exclusively Mexican mini malls on Powell and many more in Rockwood. Spanish is the spoken language and could be intimidating to Suburban Whitey. However I have heard tales of amazing Carne Asada, Chorizo and various other Latin specialties coming from these little markets and I like adventure. I stopped in to try a new source for my Tacos Tijuana recipe. The meat case was large and full of delicious look meats and cheeses. I struck up a conversation with Jesus the butcher about what kind of meats I should be using. Even though I was obviously the gringo, he treated me like family, offering advice on Mexican cooking, several samples of his awesome in-house made beef jerky and grilling techniques for the best asada. This further reinforced my theory that no matter where you are from you can talk grilling with ANYONE. I could make peace in the Middle East with a Webber and some briquettes. When I went to pick up some off the shelf salsa he stopped me and handed a sample of the homemade salsa they sell. Seriously good. I left with bag of very reasonably priced meats, cheeses and assorted goodies, and a reminder to myself to step off the beaten path more often. P.S. The carne asada was the best I ever made. I have turned several friends onto this place and received texts about how good it is. read more

This place is my local go to spot for all my Mexican meat. Are usually make everything from scratch including marinades and seasonings but I find that the meat here is seasoned very well for my taste and it cuts out a lot of my time and effort into making dinner making things easy for me ! You can make authentic tacos they have the freshest tortillas and best selection fresh veggies from cilantro to cactus. Even as a gringo I feel welcomed in the store almost every time which is pretty good for an authentic Mexican establishment! Definitely a hidden gem in Gresham surprised it took me this long to review it come try it!!! read more

I am not going to pretend to be proficient at the various Mexican meat specialties this store carries but I found it on Yelp while visiting Gresham and I have tried several different things from here over the last couple years and now it is always a stop when in town visiting family. I like to buy their marinated meats and throw them on a hot grill for ready made fajitas. They are fool proof and very flavorful. They have beef, pork and chicken in various marinades. I have also bought the tamales from the guy who shows up out front at 4 pm. He is there till he sells out and I have missed out by not going early. Very good tamales. Today I was picking up some chicken for the grill and decided to get one of the cooked chickens they offer for our lunch. Again, I can't tell you what it is called but it had wonderful flavor and came with potatoes and grilled onions...a whole chicken for $8.99. I actually think it was even better cold. So after 4 trips to La Tapatia, all of which I would rate 5 stars, I felt I should leave a comment for other Yelpers. Sometimes the language barrier is a factor but they have always been helpful to this Gringo. And they have recommended some authentic ingredients to improve my efforts. It is a small market and doesn't look like much from the outside but I highly recommend them for your next grill night. read more
