What a fantastic restaurant!
We visited La Taverne when we were in Nontron for a couple of weeks. Our first vist was when a group of nine of use were looking for lunch at 1.45 in the afternoon which can be a risky pursuit. We parked in the car park next door to the restaurant and despite it not looking all that pretty from the outside we dived in fearful we would blow our last chance to eat for a couple of hours!
The dining room was really well lit and spacious with large windows that allow a breeze through if it gets warm. The food and service were excellent despite our party having a confusing mixture of different menus, just plats and kids' meals all the orders were taken efficiently and the excellent food delivered quickly.
On our second visit there were only five of us (two adults and three children) and again we had a mixture of menus with the kids all having starters from the buffet which has fresh crudites, salads and charcuterie on it. All the food was superb and once again the service friendly and efficient. We all had ice creams with the grown ups having wine and beer and the total bill was less than 80 Euros.
This restaurant is very obviously a family affair and seemingly a lot of pride goes into making it a success. read more
