Kebabs or frites looked most likely, but then Yelp suggested a decent pizza place just over the road from my hotel. The sit-down restaurant looks very pleasant, but the real star is the pizza. As you walk into the entrance hallway you're presented with a close-up view of a large wood-fired brick-lined pizza oven, with the main kitchen behind its' bulky presence. So far, so promising, but the best tools aren't much use without someone who knows how to use them. Luckily, Pantalone's pizzaiolo really knows his stuff. Don't get hypnotised watching the pizzaiolo at work! Walk past him and make a left. Place your order at the till and you'll get a receipt. Hand this to the pizzaiolo and then watch him go to work. A quattro stagioni was heaped with all the goodness I could have asked for and was made and cooked fresh, right before my eyes, in a little over five minutes. Sadly I was far too hungry to remember a picture. Finally, takeaway costs a couple of Euros less than if you eat in the restaurant.

Six of us trekked to this place on a rainy Saturday, and it was a real crazy journey getting there as it happened when both the metro and tram we were on had disruptions due to roadworks going on. But the warmth of service and the excellent food made the hour's journey so worth it. Also, it was a mini-Yelp event as Lauren A. was also included in our dinner party!! So between the six of us we got x 3 meter long half & half pizzas, drinks, desserts and coffee. Mum and I split a vegetarian and a "Mamma" pizza - I made this choice based on previous Yelper's recommendations to try the Friarelli (which for me tasted like wild mustard greens rather than the broccoli described in another review) and it was delicious, especially with the spicy salami. We also shared a 1 litre of the house red and got a bottle of water. Towards the end of the meal, folks got coffee and I split a Tiramisu 3-ways. So I gotta say, I am not really a Tiramisu kinda gal, but the Tiramisu here really blew me away and I would totally get it again. I loved the firmness of the sponge, the alcohol taste was just right, the cream tastes fresh and rich, and then the best part - it was beautiful presented with lovely earthy chocolate syrup, lavishly spread out over the plate - I licked that plate half clean! We could not finish our pizza, so got take-away boxes and then the 4 of us who were splitting a separate bill, got a great surprise as cost was under €25 per person, so absolute bargain! Poor night and £100 down the drain for two basic courses that were nothing special. You can do much better. Advise you go elsewhere. Unless you like sombre atmosphere, isolation or need to go for training purposes on how not to run a restaurant while maximizing diner stress and dissatisfaction. Giving them a 2 because the main course was OK and, for the benefit of the doubt, in case they were having a Faulty Towers Drunken Chef moment. Their reply to my review on TripAdvisor gives you a good indication of how they view their customers if you have a valid complaint. Didn't even bother to read the review properly. Despite an initial wait, as we'd not booked, we eventually got a table in the main dining room (the outside terrace would have been our favoured spot but unfortunately it was full). They kindly offered us aperitif as we waited to be seated and when leaving we were offered a digestive drink. Menu in hand and our waitress came round with the selection of daily specials. They always have lots on offer and we ended up not bothering to really open the small menu and picked instead from the specials. We opted for the linguini alla vongole, a 'trio' of pasta of the day and the ravioli covered with a tomato n'duya sauce and grilled cheese from the oven. Everything looked the par and we were satisfied with what was in our plate. They won't win any awards but sometimes simple cooking executed well using fresh ingredients is enough to satisfy a table of hungry diners. As we were a bit rushed for time we just went with mains but I was tempted to have an antipasti as I remember them being quite lovely. I'll certainly go back again soon to make sure I get to dig in to those great looking vegies and cooked meats. Generally speaking it is ideal for lunch with very reasonably priced food, a nice terrace in summer and friendly service. I'd recommend to anyone in the area looking for some enjoyable Italian food. I personally recommend the misto as an entree - you get to try small portions of 3 of their different pasta dishes. All of them were delicious, but the ravioli in a mushroom cream sauce was BY FAR the best! YUM! We'd been eyeing the desserts we saw at other tables all throughout the meal and we couldn't decide which one we wanted to try, so we each got one! The panacotta was OK, but the dame blanche (an ice cream sundae) and the tiramisu were both fantastic. For entrees we got the seafood risotto which was great and full of shrimp, mussels, calamari, and even imitation crab (a bit odd but good) and the spaghetti bolognese which my boyfriend enjoyed a lot. Both sauces had a ton of flavor and were well prepared. All in all a good time and it seems like the restaurant is popular with tourists and locals alike.
