It is also called 'Bisagra Antigua' to distinguish it from the Puerta de Bisagra Nueva which was built in 1559. The gate was the main entrance to the city and dates from the Moorish period.

We walked to the nearby Azoguejo Square with a Tourist Office, patriotic bunting, lots of military uniforms, the Walled City Above and of course the Roman Aqueduct in full view. The guy at the Tourist Office provided a map, good advice, and since he was a Real Madrid fan, a comment on my FC Barcelona jersey. Full of charm and history, the city of Segovia is located 53 miles northwest of Madrid, high above the Castilian plane at the confluence of the rivers Eresma and Clamores. Segovia has a population of 57,617 (2005) and is visited by thousands of people every year. Main attractions include the Roman Aqueduct, the Alcázar, and the Gothic Cathedral (all of which we visited and enjoyed). There are also more old Romanesque churches, convents, monasteries, and even a Sephardic Jewish Quarter spread all over the city and its surroundings. In December 1985, the Old Town of Segovia and its Aqueduct were declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. Gayle and I enjoyed our short time here. We strolled the Old Town Streets, gazed at the Roman Aqueduct, hung out at the Plaza Mayor, visited the Cathedral and toured the Sergovia Castle. Our regrets include not spending enough time getting lost and missing the chance to sample some of the local delicacies such as Cochinillo Asado or Roast Suckling Pig. That's the downside of trying to visit as many places as possible in a short 2-week period.

We trusted PANGEA, and in particular Ainhoa Juarez, to plan, design, and execute the trip, and we couldn't be happier with the decision. I am originally from Spain and my husband is from Philadelphia, we are both avid travelers, and our standards were high. Ainhoa did an incredible job. She suggested the cities and sites to visit, things to do (from a flamenco performance to an equestrian show), and organized a 5 day trip taking into consideration our suggestions and preferences. The trip ended being very affordable, and all hotels and restaurants were great. In the weeks before the trip, Max and I were also planning a wedding abroad in the middle of a pandemic, so we were busy, sometimes difficult to reach, and needed constant reminders of the decisions to make and steps to take. Ainhoa was patient, resourceful, flexible, extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She perfectly understood the intricacies of this trip (multi cultural, different languages, where travelers included locals and foreigners). Everything worked out well. Ainhoa had thought of every small detail and things run smoothly. We have no doubt that we will rely on Pangea and Ainhoa in the future. I must add that Ainhoa chose Lola Lopez as our tour guide. Lola was with us the entire trip, and took care of the execution. Everyone liked Lola, she proved to be a problem solver, understanding of different cultures and expectations, flexible and extremely nice. My family and I had booked flights to Lisbon, Portugal and to leave Madrid Spain. We were a family…read moreof four traveling (2 parents with 2 kids in the middle teen years) and with 2 grandparents in their 70s. Our goal was to stay in Lisbon one week, Madrid for one week, and then look for day trips outside of enjoying the city areas. I had spoken with several tour groups but they focus primarily either for Portugal or Spain. Usually not both. I chose Letango for the main reason that they could develop an itinerary along with scheduling drivers. I knew that with the grandparents traveling by bus or train would be harder on them with the extra walking involved. Carlos did a great job of planning the entire itinerary. He planned 2 walking tours in Lisbon, 2 day trips out of Lisbon (Sintra and Evora), 2 walking tours of Madrid, a tapas tour in Madrid, 2 days trips from Madrid (Segovia/Avilla, and Toledo), a Flamenco show, and a cooking class. That allowed our family to focus on the culture and the trip versus focusing on the logistics. All of the tour guides provided were courteous and helpful. They all recognized the wide range areas and adapted speaking points, walking pace, or in answering questions to all of us. They were also flexible when our whims caused us to stay in one place longer or ask about stopping at a specific location. I hope to travel back to those countries and will be looking to work with Letango again.
