The chaya taco was my favorite... Something about this leafy green veg dish reminds me of grape leaves on dolmas mixed w a hint of collard / turnip greens... They top it with crushed pumpkin seeds and you can just feel the nutrition entering your bloodstream when indulging in this regional delicacy. The pork offerings were also top notch with the smoked & crispy belly being favorites. I wish I had access to tacos this solid back in Texas... I will certainly be returning to La Unión as soon as I can. Loved the city as well.

Great place where you can choose from meats and items that you can't find in a typical taqueria. I got a polcan (a fried, bean-filled tortilla) and a Panucho (kind of like a small sandwich) with cochinita pibel(like pulled pork) and campechano (not sure what it was but it was delicious). My daughter got this interesting esquitos pibelanes. It was one of my favorite meals here in Mexico. The waiter wasn't particularly charismatic and the ambiance wasn't amazing, but I don't really care much about that if the food is good.

First meal in Merida, fast service, soccer on the TV, a little loud, good food and experience!

This place is great! Great taco selection with lots of options. The margarita was very tasty! The inside is small but cute. I was in and out pretty quick. Great lunch spot!

My hotel is very close to this location. I have been here twice to get some good tortas. Great for after a hangover or anytime you need good-priced food. It's not the best torta I have had here in Mérida, but I can't complain either; the meat is never dry, has plenty of fillings, and has great flavor. The waiter was nice and attentive. It's a nice chill vibe where you can relax, grab a coke, and enjoy the food indoors. 10/10 I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Mérida. So far, I have had the lechon and cochinita torta, both of which were delicious. 2 tortas + a coke + a tip = 200 pesos. Money well spent!!  You can also get it for takeout.

We visited about a month ago and had dinner here on our first night in Merida. I had two different meats and one vegetarian taco. Everything was good. Recommend trying this place.

This is the taco place I have been looking for in Merida. They are now the standard I will judge everyone else. We have tried to eat here two or three times in the past. Inconsistency in their hours on yelp and Facebook. The waiter told us they open at 1:00 and closed Monday. Now I know and will be there after 1:00. We started with some cold beers and ordered the queso fundido as an appetizer. The cheese was delicious and melted perfectly. They gave us six small street tacos to eat with the dip. We used the taco toppings to add flavor to the appetizer. Only disappointment was they did not have pork belly that day. I ordered the baked lechon and the campechano taco. The latter was a mix of pork meat and sausage. My wife ordered the cochinita pibil and asado yucateco tacos. With the toppings everything was delicious. Service was good and the prices great.

This is it! The smoked esquites are one of the best dishes ever. Every taco hit. The meal was so satisfying and delicious. Service is fast and the ambiance is cute lunchroom vibes. We loved this spot and tried to go back but I think they were having a plumbing issue! Great spot. Definitely best we had in Merida.

Probably the best tacos in Yucatán! We've tried 5 different kind of tacos and we really loved all of them. Homemade corn tortillas were amazing too. We also got Melted cheese, it was good but I still don't understand how to eat it. I feel that I need to dip something in it like a fondu style but they only gave us tortillas with it.

My favorite tacos that I have had in my two weeks of traveling in Merida. ¡Riquísimo! Tiene que probar el taco de campechano, castacán, y cochinita pibil.

Great tacos in Merida. Can't beat the quality/value! Service was attentive. No nonsense ambiance.

The meats are delicious, and the service is fast; however, the tortillas are too thick for my liking.

We came through a couple of days later because it came highly HIGHLY recommended by Big Bro. So, I was more curious than anything. Another reason I came through is to try their kibi's. (It topped my Yelp search when looking for this particular grub.) We wanted to get drinks as well since it was a hot and humid day! Pina colada for me, brewskis for Hubbers. We put in an order for the kibis because that's main reason I came through. Drinks came through, and then... mini plates of snacks, oh, WHAT! La botana, is what they call them. Whew, didn't plan on eating more than the kibis, but I welcomed it! It was a pretty good variety, too: there were sausages, pork skin, jicama and some sort of salad. Staff told us if we wanted refills on any or all of them, to let them know and they'd be more than happy to comply. Kibis finally came through, and I have to admit that I was disappointed. Not only did they lack taste, but they were also hard. They may have been overcooked which most likely contributed to the lack of flavor. Initial thought in mind were hockey pucks. Chewing through one was a challenge that I didn't bother going for a second. (It was practically inedible.) The guac, pico de gallo and sauce were great, but didn't do much for the pucks. Hubbers really liked it, though, so there's at least that. FOOD: 2. SERVICE: 4. I noticed staff mostly just hanging out together at the bar, but they were excellent at being mindful of guests. VALUE: 3. 5 for las botanas, 1 for the kibis. PARKING: Street only. It will be a challenge, for sure. OVERALL: 3. FUN FACT: They are the second oldest cantina in Merida (opened in 1917.) I learned the place is far livelier at night when they have bands performing. Someday, maybe...? Not a one-and-done, but it'll be a long minute before a second visit, if at all.

It's enchanting at night watching the lighted towers of the old cathedral standing watch over the Merida night sky...sitting at a candle lit table with cool Yucatan breezes blowing. It's a far remove from the hustle and bustle of the narrow, crowded downtown streets and the lively plaza. I ordered a pumpkin seed-based salsa which was prepared table side in a stone vessel. My friend ordered the grilled fish with rice, pickled carrots, onions and sauces. Both were delicious. We also had nice drinks, red wine sangria, and beer. What was perhaps the best feature of the place is the excellent waitstaff who are bilingual, who are helpful with making you feel comfortable, who provide charming conversation and tips, and who are generally well trained in hospitality. Such a far cry from the dour and arrogant wait staff typically found in Washington DC restaurants. This is a good place for a quiet escape from the plaza crowd.
