Went here around 5 pm on a Monday between Christmas and New Year's. Fortunately I was by myself and got a seat at the bar right away because there was a one-hour wait for a table already. I ordered papadzules with longaniza, sopa de lima, and chaya con piña. I enjoyed everything, especially the soup. I wish I could have eaten more and tried more items, but I was so full just from those. The ambiance was cozy and pretty romantic during dinner time. Hang out in Mérida long enough and someone is bound to tell you to go to "MUGY." This is the place to go if you want to try all the various Yucatecan specialties. Cochinita pibil is an obvious must, but also check out the green juice, papadzules, and sopa de lima. The space is large and accommodating with a large central courtyard. There are even exhibits in the gift shop about the traditional foodmaking processes. You might just discover one of your new favorites here! read more

Wow - ambiance, service, food - 5 stars across the board! We started with Coloradas (when in Mexico, mezcal is the way to go!) & ordered the pork panuchos as apps. Slam packed with flavor! While we waited for our main course of the Yucatán Grill for 2, we were serenaded by the mariachi band. This was our last dinner in Merida. My girlfriend and I had eaten in many different restaurants during our week long vacation. All of them were very good in their own way. That being said, the food here at MUSY is absolutely fantastic. The alcoholic drinks are amazing- we both had two. Yummy. However, where the restaurant fell short was in service: our waiter hardly returned to our table after the initial order to see how things were and if we wanted anything else or even dessert. In conclusion, our last meal in Merida was off the charts even if the service was not. read more

Its like this place is scared to use anything like seasonings or salt! The cocktails were pretty good, especially the Brazo de Reina. While the restaurant experience is mediocre, the free minituare museum was actually quite informative! Food was okay. I got the dish the Yucatan is perhaps most famous for - cochinita pibil. This restaurant purports to make this dish in a traditional way and is highly recommended by locals and tourists alike. I can't say I was super impressed, felt kinda bland and I guess I don't have fair frame of reference but it just tasted like ordinary smoked pulled chicken to me. The handmade corn tortillas and complimentary app (chips and two types of bean dip) were superb though. Plenty of seating. Nice crossbreeze from the courtyard, even on this 100F degree day. Waiter was great! Personable. Helpful. They seem to speak English too. Minor annoyances: Service was a little slow, and although the place seemed like it had a lot of people, there were also a good amount of waitstaff too. By the time I finished I waited a good 10 mins for my cheque... and lo and behold the cheque printer wasn't working. Rest assured they calculated line items correctly...? I dunno, final bill seemed a bit high when I was presented with the card scanner. I'm not saying anything was done with ill intent or tourist trappy. Oh well, that's neither here nor there. Finally made it to "MUGY" for dinner. We had a fair experience, nothing great or worth a return. We had reservations and sat in the A/C dining room. It was pretty crowded. We ordered margaritas that were good and they brought a pumpkin seed and black bean dip with chips while you wait. For dinner we got the Yucatán meat sampler, chicken pilbil, and pork. Our friends liked the sampler, especially the sausage. My wife said her pork was on the dry side, and my chicken not very flavorful. The service was really hit or miss. I ordered a beer that never showed up but was on the bill. Didn't want to take the time to get our bill adjusted. Can say I have eaten there but will not be back. read more

TLDR/ Ambiance: Wonderful! Price: Resonable for the quality, Service: Excellent, Verdict: Must see in the city! Amazing experience, cool indoor/outdoor museum, authentic food, and a wonderful open air atmosphere. Though my Spanish is more than a little rusty, the servers tried hard to make sure that my family and I received the best possible service, despite the language barrier. The menu is chock full of traditional Yucatecan staples. Honestly, my party tried the majority and we were not disappointed with anything. Literally all the foods we ordered were well spiced, well seasoned, well appointed, not to mention served with style and care. The selection was accompanied by a full bar with traditional and fusion drinks as well as signature cocktails that utilized locally sourced fruits, spirits, and liquors. Overall, this place is worth making a reservation (which we did the day before) and taking the early evening to enjoy a good meal in an interesting location, in a beautiful city. Had the chayulitas and the beans mugy for brunch. The chayulitas were tasty vegan fritters of corn and tree spinach, and 3 would be enough for a light meal. Served with a tomato sauce and a side of the ubiquitous citrusy pickled onions. The refried beans were sprinkled with crumbled pork rinds that made a delicious crunchy contrast. Good to scoop up with the complimentary chips and salsa, which also came with scoops of black bean and squash puree. "Cafe Maya" turned out to be a dessert coffee rather than a breakfast coffee: served in a tall glass mug with a sugar rim and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, with a shot of licor 43. A bit sweet for my taste and I doubt the Maya ever drank any such thing, but OK. The cappuchino was good. read more
