My wife and I visited La Valentina, accompanied by a friend and his girlfriend; they live a couple of blocks away. The music in the place was all in Spanish, not surprising given that it's in Mexico. The music was _good_, which was a bit surprising.
We arrived well before the professional dancers took the stage, but couples occasionally danced there instead. My wife and I and our friends tried to talk over the loud music while we waited for the real dancers to take the stage. Our friends also treated us to drinks at the bar.
After we had been there more than an hour, the professional dancers arrived, and my wife suggested that I have a dance with one of them. The dancer clearly understood that she was at least as much putting on a show for my wife as she was entertaining me. The dance was very brief, less than one song -- but my wife really enjoyed the show, even more than I did, in fact.
We visited back in February 2014, but I wrote about it for myself at the time, so I'm clear on the details. read more
