I've never picked this restaurant, yet, somehow, I've been here twice! Both times I've been here with a group and someone else chose the restaurant. This first time was in April 2022 with a group of about 15-20 people. It was recommended by a local. I do think this is one of the nicer restaurants in town, but it's very much aimed at tourists which is why I'm not that into it. The prices are high and the service was abysmal. Both times we were at this restaurant for no joke, over 3 hours! The second time we came, we were with a much smaller group, but we were still there for 3.5 hours ‍. ‍‍ The food is fine, but nothing to write home...or Yelp about. The first time we had a molcajete which was okay, but kind of bland. It was very expensive. The next time we were brought here, we got the guacamole to share which everyone at our table raved about last time. This was good, but was so pricey at $9. Thankfully, my friend saw there were specials of the day listed online which I never would have seen. I ordered both specials: a shrimp taco and an octopus taco. My husband had the shrimp fajita plate. I enjoyed my shrimp taco the best, but the octopus taco was good too. Again, everything was good but just felt like they were catering to American tourists' palates and wallets. I would not choose to go here again especially due to the huge time suck this takes out of your day (especially with a toddler), but if I'm brought here again.... Okay, I guess. read more

OMG! Go to this restaurant as fast as you can! We just moved back to San Felipe, and have been waiting for them to reopen just to savor their Seafood Campechana and their Steamed Clams. It was spectacular. I got 22 steamed clams, and my husband got a large seafood campechana. We were so happy when we left. It blows away any other restaurant, and is the Number One restaurant in San Felipe in our opinion. All of their fresh seafood is outstanding. We're going back at least once a week as our treat. Delicious! Looking for fish in San Filipe is a watered-down task. There is an abundance of fish restaurants and almost all of them worth their salt. We went to one yesterday that had the best chili relleno either of us had ever tasted, but we were here in San Filipe for Hubby's Big 60 and we wanted someplace special for some yummy fish. La Vaquita was recommended by a local and it didn't disappoint. We had stopped here hoping for dinner on the special day, but it's closed on Tuesdays, so we came on a Wednesday for lunch instead. The food was amazing, the service spectacular and the only gripe was the fact that it's fly season so we had to get creative to keep the little pests at bay. It wasn't hard, though, and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Hubby had one of the house specials (I don't remember the name). It was beautiful and delicious. I had the clam bucket with wine sauce and it was outstanding. The alcohol and food were also reasonably priced. Of all the restaurants in San Filipe, if you're looking for a classy restaurant with amazing food and service, stop by La Vaquita for lunch or dinner. You will be satisfied!! read more

Amazing place, fantastic chef. Been to San Felipe twice about 10 years apart. First time was brought here by a friend who is a semi permanent resident and thought the food good but nothing fantastic. 10 years later and I chose the place off of Yelp due to its star rating and "Oh my gosh". We started with steamed mussels in a white wine sauce, grilled octopus on a tostada. For the main course we had the Chema fillet(Covina fish) on a bed of rice and the pan fried fish which consisted of two whole Covina. All I can say is "Oh my God" and "Amazing" I had been on a fishing trip this morning and watched the local fishermen catching Covina(I caught 8 myself) that they then sell to the restaurants. The fish was so soft and buttery, just awesome. I has a bottle of the La Cetto Chenin Blanc to accompany the meal and a shot of Havana Club Ron Negro to sip on every now and again, what a meal. This place is definitely worth a visit. If you want to see real Mexico with almost no American tourists then San Felipe is the place to go. Great beaches, small not so great hotels but very livable, and awesome beaches with a warm sea that you can spend hours in the water l. Dinner at the La Vaquita is not to be missed. We did not sit on the veranda or in the main restaurant but chose the little separate air conditioned portion and it was nice and intimate, almost perfect till a bunch of noisy tourists arrived and took over tue room with their noisy conversation that they shared with everyone else at the top of their voices. We asked our hotel front desk clerk for an off property restaurant recommendation. Without hesitation, he recommended La Vaquita. I initially thought it was because it was owned by his friends or family, like sometimes happens when you ask for a recommendation. However, a quick Yelp check revealed that this is the number one restaurant in town. Our warm greeting at the check-in counter set the tone for a wonderful meal. And the fact that there were lots of locals is always a good sign. Our server, Andrea, provided excellent service. The margaritas are great. Not too sweet. The guacamole the picture in the menu looked fantastic. However, the presentation when it is actually delivered to your table is even more impressive. And it was really good guacamole. The shrimp fajitas were really good, too. Large shrimp, the size of prawns. We were very happy with this place and will definitely be back. read more

They have recently added geoduck clam to the menu (aka almeja generosa/chiluda) but beware of the spicy red peppers it comes with (sin albur), consider them garnish if you are not into very spicy stuff. From my 20 yrs coming to San Felipe and eating at La Vaquita, this was the worst food experience, they kept taking our plates, the gobernador tacos were insipid, and the place felt uptight. Do Not Recommend. Also got small portion of rice, and shrimp cocktail was tooooo damn salty. read more

I've been to this San Felipe Norte location a dozen times. Located up high above all other business too. One of the nicest patios around. Staff here are very accommodating and the bartender makes amazing mixed drinks. For those who want beer, La Vaquita Norte offer's the best selection of craft and domestic beers in town. I'm told that this is the best sit down dining experience in San Felipe. We sat on the cute patio. The service was very good and our server was bilingual. My husband enjoyed his garlic shrimp and I had the ceviche which was also good but could have been more balanced. The highlight of our meal was the 'volcan', a "volcano" of meat and sauce cooked in a molcajete (a lava stone mortar and pestle) and brought to the table bubbling. It is a fun presentation. Ate here twice on my stop in San Felipe on my way to Todos Santos. My friend really enjoyed the HUGE ceviche with a variety of seafood. The Pescado Frito (deep fried fish) was amazing, although I asked for it to be cooked "mas medio" (more medium). The margaritas were refreshing but we both ordered a side shot (trago) to strengthen it up. Seated on the deck and watching the neighborhood and the fishing boats heading to the docks. I love that they carry some American items that otherwise aren't available here. Excellent meat and selection. The lines always move very quickly and the bagger will help you carry your groceries to your car if it's a lot. You just need to be careful if you're a single white woman shopping there - the window washer guys are vultures and don't ask. There is an elderly man on the corner by Oxxo who will wash your windows but he always ASKS FIRST. I actually pay him $20 every time I go and he watches over my car and stops the vultures from messing with my car. read more

When we arrived Saturday evening we were the first ones there and were greeted by the staff who were ready to begin their service, about five or so stood outside. We opted to sit inside and thankfully they have a room with a closed door that has air conditioning as the main dining room was quite stuffy. We had chips and salsa to start, the chips were clearly fresh, I loved the crunch. The salsa was good. Hubby ordered the spinach stuffed chicken breast with chipotle sauce and I the fish with mushroom sauce. Both of them were very good however the chicken had that texture telling me it was just barely done cooking as it was a bit chewy which I wasn't a fan of but hubby couldn't tell so all was well. We all order different ideas food so I got to try them all my favorite dish by far was the shear tuna fish it was nicely fried on the outside and delicious on the inside . My hubby had the rib eye steak with baked potatoes and it was great but not for that price .
