It's directly across from the Pancratiuskerk (a lovely Catholic Cathedral dedicated to Saint Pancras, built between the 1000 and 1200 centuries). The restaurant specializes in Grilled and Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant was busy even though it was still relatively early. I was glad we arrived early because it just continued to fill up. The bar is lovely and very upscale. The cocktail menu has a large variety of unusual offerings, many specializing the use of "Fever Tree" sodas and soda water. The wine and beer lists both have a large variety of choices. My friend had the steak with Bearnaise sauce and fries (frites) with a tomato and creme fraiche topping. I had the lamb kabobs dipped in cream sauce, grilled, and served with a lemon mayonnaise sauce, also with fries. For drinks my friend had a Smoky Jameson's and I had a "Coconut". Everything was delicious. The fries were cut as steak fries, served crispy and perfect. The lamb and steak were both grilled to perfection. The Bearnaise sauce was just right. The lemon mayonnaise really added a wonderful tang to the lamb that enhanced it's already delicious flavor rather than covering it up. The drinks were large and had plenty of alcohol. We ate outside and the setting was comfortable. The Pancratiusein is a city square around the cathedral and has many restaurants and bars and a few shops. Lots of foot traffic. The service was terrific, we wanted for nothing. The waiters and waitresses all spoke Dutch, English, French and German. Not a huge surprise since the Dutch schools focus on multiple language skills, but still very nice to have. The next time I am in the area I won't hesitate to stop here for dinner again. It was terrific!

The spazle portion was enormous and loaded with gorgeously caramelized onions and cheese. The cheese schnitzels were exactly as you could imagine, crispy crunchy on the outside with a golden crusty and ooey gooey stretchy cheese on the inside, paired with either sauce it was fantastic. Jaegar sauce was packed with mushrooms in a brown gravy and the Balkan were fresh chopped onions, a flavorful red sauce and a white sauce with fresh herbs. Amazing amazing. Easily one of the best meals I had on my trip. Oh I made a reservation by the way so not sure how walking in would look like. Staff were very nice.

We got across the river to the Latäng District with no traffic at all - this must be what it's like when people are happy to use public transport options. The restaurant is covered in wallpaper of old photographs from the founding proprietress, Paula Kleinmann. Oma means "Grandma". The original photos are back with her family when the business was sold in 2023 to the Wolf and Küther-Jankovic families, who still operate it. Grandma Kleinmann passed away in 2009 at the age of 95, but her recipes live on here. The menu is simple - it's all schnitzel. We ordered a regular veal schnitzel with mushroom sauce and a Viennese pork schnitzel with "curry ketchup" so that we could better understand the difference. As far as we can tell, the meat for the Viennese pork schnitzel is sliced thinner and the batter doesn't fall off when you cut it. The meat for the regular schnitzel is thicker as its its batter, so pieces tend to crumble off when you cut it. Both were excellent, so it's just a matter of preference. Our son preferred the regular schnitzel and I preferred the Viennese one. I'm only sad that we had to leave leftovers on the table, but we really couldn't eat another bite. We like that they made non-alcoholic drinks. Our son had the blackcurrent spritzer and I had the rhubarb one. We also ordered a dessert of strawberry ice cream which was embedded with frozen strawberries. We hustled back to the hotel on public transport, taking first the train and then catching the last bus back. https://www.beiomakleinmann.de
