Looking back on our wedding pictures from one year ago yesterday, I have nothing but amazing memories. I still love my dress, and loved it so much that day, that I felt compelled to write a review for Elizabeth. I wanted an all lace dress with sleeves, and after looking at many bridal stores in the GTA, including Kleinfeld, the selection was very slim. I found a picture of a couture dress that I liked and thought that I would search out some seamstresses and see what they had to say about making a similar dress. Some emailed back a short reply and said yes, no problem I can make that. Some didn't reply, or sent me pictures of different styles that they thought I would like. Elizabeth sent me a detailed reply, which showed she was actually thinking through the details of such a dress, and said can I call you and we can talk more about it. I called her the next day, and from our first conversation I could tell that we would get along and that this was a person who thoroughly knew her stuff. I set up a meeting with her shortly thereafter. I met Elizabeth at her studio in her home and we talked more about details and price. She was always very thorough and detailed in her explanations of how the dress would be constructed, the materials, and the cost. She always made sure that I was comfortable and we had discussed and agreed on everything before we moved on to the next step. She provided samples of lace for me to choose from, and constructed a muslin prototype that I liked as soon as I tried it on. Knowing that the first step was going in the direction I wanted, and that Elizabeth was able to create what I was looking for, was very comforting...because having a dress made from scratch has a lot of unknowns until the final product is finished. I met with Elizabeth about once a month for 8 months or so, which was great because every time we met I could add or change things if I wanted to, and she would explain the different steps of constructing the dress as we went along. We also had time to chat and get to know each other a bit during our visits, and Elizabeth's friendly and knowledgeable approach made each visit a pleasure. I felt extremely comfortable asking questions, or making changes to my dress as we went along, and Elizabeth always accommodated my requests. If I wanted something that was going to cost a little more, she always let me know and explained why. She gave me options as well, if I wanted to try to save a bit of money. I also lost about 25lbs before my wedding and Elizabeth kept on taking my dress in as my size changed, no problem. My finished dress was everything I could have asked for, and more. The details on the dress are incredible. The dress had snaps on the back, but Elizabeth cut the lace in such a way to completely cover the snaps and blend in seamlessly with the lace pattern. Even the inside of the dress was finished with beautiful details, no raw edges or ragged hems. She made a bustle for my train that was pretty, easy to tie, and strong enough to hold up all that lace all night. The dress was cut just right for me, the right length for walking in my wedding shoes, the neckline not too low but not too high, and the bodice fitted but comfortable enough to move and dance. I also absolutely loved my veil, which was cathedral length and trimmed all around the edge in the same lace as my dress. Elizabeth hand cut and stitched the lace around the veil so it looked just right, and attached a comb that held everything securely in place in my hair. She also altered one of my sister's bridesmaid's dresses that she ordered online, and took it apart and made it fit perfectly. If I had bought a similar dress and veil from a retail store or couture designer, I have no doubt I would have paid double what I paid Elizabeth. The quality of work, the amount of meetings we had, the attention to detail, the continuous alterations because of weight loss, was incredible and I feel that I got amazing value for my money. I also got a one of a kind dress and veil, and that is something special. If you have a certain dress or style in mind, and you are having a tough time finding it in stores or in your budget, please do not hesitate to contact Elizabeth. You will be very happy you did, and I am so happy I found her and she gave me the dress and veil I always dreamed of. I met Elizabeth less than 2 months before my wedding. I was fairly anxious....to me it didn't seem like a lot of time and my dress had FULL beading (which I recognize would take more time, skill and effort to alter). Adding to the anxiety of finding a skilled seamstress were stories of terrible experiences from friends which I certainly wanted to avoid myself. The time I had remaining to hem the dress allowed for minimal/no errors...which is why I'm so grateful I met Elizabeth. Elizabeth exceeded the mark in all areas for me, but two are absolute standouts; 1) Skill/Experience - The first meeting I had with Elizabeth was very informative and educational. We spoke about the alterations and she explained/educated on the alterations that would be best/recommended for the dress. Leaving the dress with her after the first appointment, I felt extremely confident (to be honest, being as anxious as I was...I didn't expect to feel that way with ANYBODY). Knowing the complexity of the dress, she was very mindful/thoughtful of the order in which she did the alternations (the following is what I had done: hemming, she had to alter the zipper which was creating a bump for my dress, she had to re-bead areas of the dress around the zipper, she had to alter an overlay for my dress, create a bustle, re-align my thin shoulder straps). She did it all and she did it all fabulously!!! 2) Transparency - Elizabeth is very transparent about her pricing and alterations that she was making. This was something else I was worried about when looking for a seamstress, I wanted the work done well but I also didn't want to be paying the cost of a second dress. I felt that her prices were reasonable and aligned to the work/quality of work performed. I highly recommend Elizabeth. She cares about her brides, their dresses and is a perfectionist (even in areas that I felt were fine, she would fine tune to make it absolutely perfect). I loved my dress when I brought it into her but it needed work to make it suit my body. She made it absolutely perfect for my day...truly a stress free and enjoyable experience!!!! My review is 6 Stars and here is why: My fiancée Alison was looking for a seamstress to alter her wedding dress to fit in time for our wedding. We gave ourselves plenty of time to research and look into reviews since we didn't know anyone in the city. We got lucky as we found Elizabeth in our area and with glowing reviews. Alison talked to Elizabeth over the phone and set a date to take her dress in and do her first fitting. In that time I went on a hunt for my suit. I found the perfect suit but it needed to be altered. At the store the sales clerk helping me gave me bad advice by telling me to go with the smaller size and have it let out (when he should have given the advice of getting the bigger suit and having it fitted). Elizabeth did the best she could but in the end the pants could not be let out anymore and sitting in it was a challenge. When she found out that I had the option of getting the bigger size and wrongly was led to get the smaller one by the clerk she did something that brings my review to a 6 star. She wrote all the work she had done and asked me to go back to the store and ask them to exchange for the larger pants. The store manager look at what Elizabeth had written and agreed that the clerk should not have given any advice at all. He changed the pants and paid for all the work Elizabeth had done up to that point on the pants. Elizabeth did a wonderful job on Alison's dress and my suit and the new pants. The one fear I always had leading up to our wedding was that the day after I would reflect back and think "everything was perfect but....", I am happy to say that everything went perfectly and there was no "but...". Last month I was happy to refer a friend to Elizabeth for his wedding and the feedback has been as I expected.. They are blown away by her work and by the way she cares about her clients. I found the perfect wedding dress but knew that it was going to need some alterations. I began my search by Googling "Wedding Dress Alterations" and the Yelp page popped up. I scanned through the many results and looked through the reviews to see who would be best. I knew my alterations weren't going to be simple as I had some bead embroidery that would need to be repaired, the dress needed to be brought up but due to the design at the bottom the alterations would have to be done in the middle to make the dress shorter and the bustle taken in so it was no small task. After finding the page for Labl Studio, I decided to contact Elizabeth to see if she was up for the task! After setting a date for my first fitting, meeting Elizabeth and going through what would need to be altered.. I knew that she was going to be the best choice for me & my wedding dress! I bought my dress in New York and when I brought it back to Toronto, I was unsure of where to go for alterations. I did a search online and found a few options, Labl Studio being one of them. I did my research and decided to go for an initial consult with Elizabeth at Labl Studio. I showed her my dress, I told her what I was looking for and she told me what she could do and how she would do it. She also gave me an estimate on the cost and if I chose to go with her I would leave my dress with her that day to start my first fitting. My mother came along with me for that initial meeting and she brought her mother-of-the-bride dress to get a price on hemming. After hearing what Elizabeth had to say and her very knowledgeable answers to my questions we decided to go ahead and leave the dresses and gave an initial deposit. Fast forward to final fitting...... both my mother and I were very happy with Elizabeth's work. She takes a lot of pride in what she does and it shows. My dress was a modified A-line/ fit and flare and, being a curvy girl, I was super happy with how the dress cut and flowed in all the right places. Elizabeth did an amazing job. My mother equally loved the attention to detail given to her hemming and recommendations given to her by Elizabeth about adding a belt detail to accentuate her waist. I had the most wonderful experience with Elizabeth. I only had 4 months to plan my wedding and I couldn't find a dress in ANY store that fit my personality and style, so I needed a custom gown and fast! I found Elizabeth by some miracle and the first thing she said to me was "anything is possible"! This got me really excited and we began to discuss ideas of my vision. When I saw the first sketch of my dress, I knew it was the ONE! Elizabeth really listened to every detail. I felt very involved in the whole process and was able to select a really unique fabric to use for the top half of my dress which I knew would stand out from anything else I'd ever seen. Luckily, I had inadvertently contacted Elizabeth to fix one of my amazing beautiful silk dresses that through wearing had some wear and tear.....she made it look like new.....So when I bought my sample wedding dress, as I was getting married in 4 months.... and had no time to get it altered.... I knew who to call.... even though she was on the Kleinfeld list of reputable alteration seamstresses. It was a no-brainer. Elizabeth is a no-nonsense, very detailed and amazingly gifted seamstress..... She is comfortable working with, in my case, lace that cost more than my mortgage payment and I had such confidence in her that I was nonplus when she pulled out her scissors and started cutting into my dress...... when I did my almost final fitting, it wasn't perfect, I was unsure....... she said.... Elizabeth from Labl did an amazing job basically re-creating my wedding dress. I had purchased my gown with a certain look in mind (form-fitting with lots of curve) as the store I purchased it from pinned it that way and said that alterations would be super simple on it. After taking it to Elizabeth I soon found out that the dress I purchased wasn't meant at all to have the form fitted shape; instead it was supposed to hang like a night gown. She worked her hardest on giving my dress the perfect structure and shape all while trying to work with lace that was really difficult to remove. Even though alterations were costly it was well worth the price as I was confident in Elizabeth's work and knew she would hand me over the beautiful gown I had in mind! She worked fast and was ready to hand my dress off on the date of promise. She also tailored my husbands suit which turned out amazing! Elizabeth made the most incredible wedding dress for me. Made of a heavy satin, it required a highly technical and inventive design to pull off the look that I wanted. Elizabeth understood my vision right away and listened carefully to what it was I wanted. She had me try on the dress each time I visited her and discussed the next steps, showing me what she would do and asking my opinions along the way to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I couldn't have been happier. The result was a gorgeous dress that people are still talking about weeks later. My intention was to have the back restored ( covered) which was no easy task. I went to Labl and met with Elizabeth. Elizabeth was my harbour in a dark and windy bridesmaid dress storm; correction: hurricane. I came to her fairly last minute (a week and a half) with the impossible task of altering a bridesmaid dress that I had ordered online through Nordstrom that was 2 sizes too small and looked straight up frumpy on me. After 2 appointments, I walked out with an altered dress that fit me beautifully, and more importantly, I was able to enjoy the wedding day without feeling self conscious. Not only did she alter the dress to have it fit properly, but she took into consideration the parts of it that made me feel self conscious and altered it using her creativity and talent. I recently bought a vintage velvet top online. I arranged for the online retailer's seamstress to alter the top as I knew from the measurements it would be too small at the bust. Imagine my shock when I received the top to find that while it looked as good as its online picture, it was unable to close properly around my chest. I immediately began to google for an alterations studio and that's how I found Elizabeth at Labl Studio. The first time I went to Labl Studio, Elizabeth immediately put me at ease by explaining how she would alter the top to fit. I looked for a seamstress with experience and intuition when I wanted two dresses (one with sentimental value in addition to being a designer dress from NY) altered, and ultimately I thought Elizabeth did a fabulous job. She was very direct and matter-of-fact, and while I initially found her approach intimidating, it became clear that she is just extremely experienced, and there is great importance in being clear about expectations before a project is started. (I also realized that what I was hoping for the 3rd dress I brought simply wasn't possible, and she was very good to be honest with me about this). Elizabeth got it! She really interpreted my needs well. She was able to stay staunchly within budget, and kept me updated on all progress on my dress. I've been going to Elizabeth for the last 2 years for different types of alterations. From bridesmaid gowns, jeans, shirts and even my wedding dress. I've always been super happy with how things have turned out. I've been to previous tailors and things have not been quite right or things have been just plain ruined. Elizabeth has been professional and since she designs clothes knows what is actually feasible and what will look good with alterations.For my wedding last year I was quoted at the bridal shop for my alterations to be quite expensive, Elizabeth did it at half the price. Simply put, Elizabeth is phenomenal. I brought three spring/fall jackets to her on which I had almost entirely given up (way too big and shapeless), and she turned them into shining stars. She fit them to me perfectly and somehow gave the raw material structure. Further, she was able to help me solve some long-standing issues I had with the pieces (issues I had thought were simply irreparable). For example, I had mentioned that the belt on one of the coats never stayed tied, and Elizabeth sewed a clasp onto the belt to keep it tied. Loe and behold, this works perfectly!
