I've been going to Don Lee and the team at Trend for 15 years and had 15 or 16 suits and jackets made by Trend. Trend is one of the only true bespoke (not made-to-measure) tailors left outside of Savile Row, London and the workmanship is exceptional. I am both saddened and disgusted with Don, his assistant Marsha and my experience at Trend Custom Tailors. Don and Marsha were dishonest, unprofessional and predatory. Their characters are lacking in moral fabric. They shamelessly lied to me, misguided me and ripped me off. Their soft-spoken voices and gentle demeanor is a veneer. They have a small room they call a "fabric mill" consisting of fabric no one wants. They will attempt to push this crappy fabric on you regardless if it is incompatible with your requests. To make a long story short, I paid $2,000 for a bespoke mohair suit. They pretended to order the material. I went home with was a polyester blend suit stitched by a group of ladies (possibly students) learning how to sew. Two other bespoke tailors located in downtown Toronto confirmed that the material was not mohair but rather a cheap polyester blend material with subpar stitching. Unless you are someone of clout and status who they fear, please do not go here. Please listen to your intuition and obey your gut instinct upon hearing their voices for the first time or meeting them for the first time. In hindsight, they left telltale signs throughout the process pointing to their unethical business practices. I had already given them a deposit and gave them the benefit of the doubt. From the moment you enter Trend Custom Tailors, it becomes apparent that Don Lee is an artist. The ever-evolving decor highlights much of his artistic brilliance and creativity. I must point out that this is not an alteration service where one brings their pants to be taken up an inch. This is a true Bespoke tailor shop where you will receive a personalized consultation with the tailor who will be cutting the cloth you choose, hanging your sleeves, and fitting you in your new suit at the end. The shop features glass work that the proprietor has had commissioned from students in the arts at Ryerson - one way in which he contributes back to the community, custom made iron work around the windows from local craftsmen and women, not to mention his own paintings, sculptures, and murals that demonstrate his varied artistic talents and usually incorporate a captivating blend of contrast and texture regardless of the medium. Don's passion for art and eye for fashion is carried into every garment that he makes. I have trusted Don to choose materials and patterns for me in a very consultative manner, giving him free artistic licence on the finished product, and I have never been let down. I love the way I feel in my suits from Trend. They fit perfectly. It is also nice to get frequent compliments on my shirts and suits. I'm often asked where I bought my shirts and suits, which is a great compliment to Trend's finished product. I'm pretty shocked to have come across such polarized opinions of this business on Yelp. What does NOT shock me is that both negative reviewers share something in common: a total of one review each on Yelp. I would disregard them. If you're looking for a fantastic bespoke suit, my advice is that you make an appointment with Trend and go see for yourself what all the hype is about. You will not be disappointed. read more

Here I go again writing a review that will probably come back to bite me. Trend Custom Tailors is one of those rare finds you only tell your good friends about because you don't want the secret to get out and the place get too busy, but we're all friends at Yelp so why not. If there were 10 stars, I would hands down give Don (Don Fabien Lee, the owner) a full ten stars. His level of professionalism, artistry, and fashion knowhow is unmatched. All his work is tailored to your unique style, from completely conservative to the most daring of looks, but what Don does exceptionally is take conventional formal attire and fuse it with a modern, trendy flare, call it contemporary with an edge. And it so happens that style fits my taste. You can expect friendly personal attention, impeccable work, and the highest quality clothing you've ever owned, without the stuffy atmosphere and outrageous price tags. I'm not saying it's cheap but you can get a bespoke suit of better quality for comparable or lower price than the European off-the-rack suits at a Harry or Holts. Nothing I write will really do it justice; you can only understand what I mean once you put on that first suit Don makes for you. You will never go back. In fact I no longer have any use for Harry, Holt, or any of the other stores where you're supposed to buy your quality work / formal attire. Don is making a suit for my upcoming wedding in May and the experience so far has been nothing but extremely wonderful and pleasant! Don is simply amazing - he is an artist and his pieces just speak for themselves. If I could give him 10-stars I would! Don's team is also simply wonderful. From the moment you walk in they welcome you and make you feel at home. Their attention to detail and professionalism is amazing. I highly recommend Don when you're out looking to get a suit made - it is definitely well worth it and I will definitely be back again for more clothing! BTW - I am a woman and he specializes not only in men's wear but in women's suits as well. He is rare gem in Toronto and ladies the suits are amazing! TL;DR - Consistently takes months to deliver a few shirts or trousers (last order took from April - October) - Poor communication - Poor attention to detail - Frequently reschedules appointments with no notice - The owner is very personable, but that doesn't make up for the service and quality issues Was a client for 2 years, and I finally gave up on doing business with them. I advise not doing business with them. Customer Service: Poor ----------------------------- In two years, I ordered multiple bespoke shirts and trousers. Things started off well, and went downhill after 6 months. On almost every order, design details I requested would be missing e.g. wrong collar, wrong cuffs etc. This is not cool when you are paying for bespoke. Most times they were fixed after a long wait, in the end they refused to fix the errors. In October I was even told by the owner, Don, to just accept it when details are wrong because it costs him to change them. On countless occasions, I would be called an hour before my scheduled appointment and told the order isn't ready and they will rebook me. This happened no less than 5 times. Usually, it took 2 months for an order of 3 shirts. In 2016, I ordered 4 shirts in April and got them in October. On one occasion, the price of my order increased by $200 from the time I left a 50% deposit to the time I came to collect it. I was told prices went up while the garment was being made. This was a one time occurrence. After standing my ground, they honoured the original price. Quality: Fair -------------- Don doesn't do bad work when you finally get the product delivered. By default, everything is very form fitting, that seems to be his style. Because of this, I had 5 shirts tear in the elbow because it was too tight and had to ask for new shirts to be different. The collars and cuffs of shirts they made don't stand up and fall flat, looks sloppy. I haven't had issues with trousers they made me. read more

The short version: Great suits, friendly service, although they are busy and by the end of the day appointments may run a few minutes late. My current profile picture shows me in my Trend suit. The full version: As far as I can tell, Trend is one of the few "bespoke" places in town that actually do bespoke rather than made-to-measure. I chose Trend over the others because they seem a bit more enthusiastic and creative. Trend has some surprisingly young staff around for a tailors, and I think the enthusiasm, creativity and energy of Don (owner and head tailor) is why Trend is apparently an attractive place for young talent. While it's not something I'm in currently a position to pay extra for, I appreciate that they seem to be training the next generation of tailors. I saw Don sometime around October 2012 to have a suit made for my July 2013 wedding. I had been thinking about made-to-measure, but decided I wanted the extra quality and all the little extras that bespoke offers. I didn't (and don't) anticipate being in a position to have another bespoke suit made for a few years, so I wanted something versatile, something not so obviously "wedding" that it would look out of place at a job interview. Don helped me to nail down the specifics- in the end we chose a 3 piece lounge/business suit in a medium grey wool with a subtle herringbone by Vitale Barberis Canonico. I went with the house-style Surgeon cuffs, 4 buttons, notched lapels (less formal but I like the look more), flap pockets, 2 vents (more flattering on my body type), and Don suggested a style of trouser pocket that sits better on me (I can't remember the name). I also specified a lighter fabric and construction, as I sweat easily, and England can be stiflingly hot in July. I made it clear that one of the things I like about tailoring are the little details you don't notice at first- a buttonhole or even a single stitch in a contrast colour, a bright undercollar on an otherwise muted suit etc. I left the specifics of these details up to Trend. The fit and quality of my suit is fantastic. I'm not especially lean, but I lift weights, so I have wide shoulders relative to the length of my arms, and large thighs- off the rack jackets either don't fit my shoulders, or the arms are too long, and alterations haven't helped much in the past. Trousers that fit my thighs are usually too baggy elsewhere. My Trend suit is the first, and so far, only piece of tailoring that fits me well, and by far and away the smartest and most flattering piece of my wardrobe. This is the first bespoke item I've had made, but as the husband to a fashion design student, I've learned a fair bit about clothing quality- my suit is top notch. A lot of hand work went into it, maybe not as much as Saville Row bespoke, but it's been given personal attention where it matters, and it looks and feels like it should withstand many years of use. The little details I was hoping for are present- the under collar is in a nice purple fabric with contrasting yellow stitching and Don's personal logo embroidered onto it, the last buttonhole on each cuff is finished in the same purple. Opening up the cuff reveals a beautiful strip of chequered red, purple and gold. As is standard for Trend suits, my signature is embroidered inside the front of the jacket by their in-house master embroiderer. I recently discovered that my wedding date is also embroidered in the lining in the back of the jacket. Most importantly, I looked good on my wedding day. The service was also very good. Don and the other staff are friendly, and the only complaint I have is that for two of my fitting appointments, they were running late due to previous appointments overrunning. My suit took longer than I expected, I think they took their time with mine because I'd mentioned I wouldn't need it for several months- I suspect that I could have been finished much sooner if I'd needed it urgently, so I don't count this against them. When the time came to pick up my suit, Don had me try it on, and actually sent it back to the work room to have a sleeve shortened by a couple of millimeters to compensate for my very slightly uneven shoulders (I think this took about 30-40 minutes). Fortunately, their premises are not an unpleasant place to sit and wait- in another life Don might have been an interior designer. When I'm able to do so, I plan on having a sport jacket made there- judging by their blog and a few of the in-progress pieces I saw in the workroom, I suspect Don is at his best when he has some creative leeway. read more

Ordered a suit for a wedding in which they had 4 months to make. Only half of what I paid for arrived 2 days before the wedding and most didn't fit and had to be returned. It's been 3 years and I'm still out a couple thousand dollars as they refuse to refund what I haven't received and are telling me they are still planning on sending the rest.
