Way over-hyped! I've always wanted to try this place out, because the decor is so lovely. They have several locations across the city and this one's walls are covered in plants. They even have an art installation made of rope from one of my favorite artists.
Supposedly LACES is all about organic hair treatments to get your hair back on track feeling and looking good after all of the product build up and heat damage from daily styling. I went in for the whole shabang- a hair scrub and mask, mani-pedi and a trim. In total at least 6 different people worked on my hair including the "consultant" who helped me pick my treatments and three different ladies worked on my nails. Personally I found it obnoxious to have them keep changing out specialists - greetings from the hair washer, the scalp cupper, the three different people who took turns blow drying - by the end I was so overwhelmed that the calm of the scalp massage was undone by the craziness of people whizzing by and bumping into me.
As for the treatments themselves I would rate them as only ok. The price here is crazy expensive by Brazilian standards, so I was expecting to leave looking like a goddess, but it turned out the same as any blow out and trim would despite two hours of products and treatments. I watched a lot of women come in and out of the salon on that busy Friday, and I just was not impressed.
Even the people who work there have a dried out platinum look when it comes to their hair. I didn't get an organic feel from that or any of the chemicals they used on my nails. I feel like the hair treatments are likely a scam and you could just get a deep conditioning done at a normal salon with the same outcome and you are just paying for the atmosphere. read more
