A cool 140-year-old home that comes with problems of a 140-year-old home. There are three cots in…read moremost bedrooms downstairs and those three people share one small bathroom. The cots have a thin mattress and a foam topper. They are cot frames not twin bed frames. The rooms were cold especially at night, but there was a chest with extra blankets. The tile in the bathrooms was very slippery when stepping out of the shower. We did not see bathmats. There's no place to put personal things in the bathrooms. The three bedrooms upstairs have larger beds but all share one bathroom, again with no shelves etc to put personal items. There are NOT black out drapes etc, in the bedrooms so I found it hard to sleep with the lights from buildings across the street shinning in my room. The place sets up tables etc for the number of people coming and what you are doing. For us they set up workplaces for each person, ironing boards, irons, power strips and towers. The printer is not wireless so you cannot print patterns etc from your phone or tablet. They put out a lot of cutting mats and rulers which was a big help. They have a mini store with some necessities. They said to fill out an order form, but we did not see any order forms. Really didn't see anything we needed but thought we would mention we did not see the order forms. The lake is beautiful and just across the street. In the summer, there is not a lot of the lake you can see from the house but it's a very short distance away. It is also worth your time to walk the main street 5th Ave. Cool older homes, local restaurants, antique stores. Loves the old buildings, hardware store, and pharmacy. Patio was full of leaves. As a group had left the day before we were surprised how it was not swept or blown off. The outside furniture needed to be cleaned off to use. Many dead roaches inside. Again, as an older house some is expected. Just be prepared. Almost all the restaurants are closed on Monday's and evenings so plan your meals accordingly. There is a great stocked kitchen. we found almost everything we needed. Ice maker makes a lot of noise, not to distract you from your crafting but the noise was scary the first time or two we heard it. We ran out of ziplock bags. If you are cooking and have left overs, bring bags or containers. There are really no sitting areas at least not with our set up. Not a problem for a quilting retreat but could be for a knitting retreat. There are a few chairs in the front bedroom and again in a bedroom upstairs. Great internet and cell phone service, no TVs, radios, or clocks. Kind of what you want at a retreat.

Secondary to the arrival of COVID a lot of the family were afraid to attend. The house was gorgeous and we had a great time. The owners were awesome. We had no problems. Were made to feel at home. We would like to go back and stay again when we could enjoy the town ,restaurants, stores and Lake and not have COVID restrictions. We surprised my sons girlfriend with this visit as she had looked at it for a possible wedding venue. We had a great time, playing board games, walking around the lake, enjoying this beautiful house. It will be an awesome memory for us.

I called them up and asked to order it and said they didn't have some of the flowers that were a part of the arrangement and I told them it was fine and gave them our stepmom's favorite colors to work off of instead. The husband and wife, Corrin were so sweet and gracious on the phone. The delivery ended up being free (which was a nice bonus since we live on the west coast) AND Corrin texted me a picture of the arrangement before they sent it off!! Eastbound on I-10 between Pensacola and Tallahassee, it was time for a break. This is one of the…read moregood rest areas in Florida, which are generally about 30 to 45 minutes apart. Plentiful parking, some shade if the Sun is at the right angle, vending machines, space to walk around, space for pets and yes, clean restrooms for people. This was a nice rest and the quarter mile walking trail was great. There is another across the way for westbound traffic. They are not otherwise connected. This is the Okaloosa County Rest Area for travelers heading east along Interstate 10. It is…read morelocated near mile marker 58 (though the center itself notes it as mile marker 60). When entering, cars will go to the left while trucks go to the right. Florida rest areas are open 24 hours a day. My visit to this rest area was on August 26, 2022. After traveling for a little while, it was time to take a break from driving and being on the road. This is the rest area we stopped at in Okaloosa County. The first stop at this rest area was to use the restroom. The restrooms were nice. They were pretty big for a rest area. They were also clean and well maintained too. Using the restroom isn't the only reason to stop at a rest area. I also took advantage of moving around and getting my body moving so that my legs don't cramp up while driving. They have a leg stretching trail, which is a little over a quarter mile in distance. There are spots here where you can take your pets to relieve themselves too, but pets are not allowed in the building (service animals only). There are several picnic tables, with some of them covered, as well as tree cover in the area too. This makes it a great place to stop for a bit. One of the signs here did surprise me a bit, as it noted that some organizations have permits to solicit at welcome centers and rest areas. We didn't encounter that on this visit, but it is good knowing this. Overall, the Okaloosa County Rest Area for I-10 East is very nice. There is something for everyone when it comes to taking a break, using the restroom, or even just taking in some of the sights or walking the stretch your legs trail. If your travels take you this way, this rest area is worth stopping in for a short bit.
