Another update is they really need to refresh the counseling dept. I've never been ignored so much in my life as I have been by these counselors. I've also heard my kids and their friends say the same kinds of things. They are just not good. If your kid is a go getter, they will do well at East. But I think all types of kids need attention and help too, and the quiet ones fall through the cracks here. Again, something I've dealt with in our family as well as hearing it from other families.

Things quickly went sour when the main teacher started disappearing for months at a time, placing the kids in the care of assistants, art teachers, music teachers, basically anyone with a pulse. This started to wear our child out and dropping him off became a triggering experience. He was never a clingy baby so it was odd to me how distraught he was at drop off. Rather than working with you on behavior issues, they are quick to throw incident reports your way basically blaming your kid for everything. The final straw came when my child was left unattended long enough to destroy the classroom, the staff had the audacity to tell me my 3 year old child needed to take books home to glue pages back together when he was the one left unattended and could have been seriously hurt. The music teacher discussed death of a loved one with my child without permission, they didn't take accountability for either incident which really didn't sit right with me. Not to mention they take more days off than public schools but you're paying an insane amount of money just because it's "Montessori" This place is a glorified daycare, and a crappy traumatizing one at that.

Our daughter was bullied relentlessly in her first classroom, and the teacher was so detached that he didn't even realize it was happening. I had been worried about her because she wasn't getting ANY works done and was having anxiety attacks on school nights that would often keep her up until past 11 PM, and when we finally figured out the cause, it was like pulling teeth to get the administrators to move her to a different classroom. Once she was moved, things improved for her generally, but I still have enough concerns to cause me to move her to a neighborhood school next year. A lot of the people who work at this school are wonderful, kind, hard working souls and I really don't want to make them feel undervalued. I've heard a few of the teachers are great, but I learned at the State of the School meeting that they have a high teacher turnover rate, as well as a high student turnover rate. The children also seem to face little to no consequences for bad behavior, and as a result I am actually embarrassed to be seen on field trips with them. My daughter went to a Title 1 school before this, and the children were much better behaved and respectful to adults and other children. On our last field trip at this school, I was actually shoved by a boy who was impatient to get off the bus! I did do research on the Montessori model and felt I understood what it entailed. My daughter scored very high on the CogAT and has natural curiosity, so I thought this would be a great place for her. At this point, however, I am concerned that she will actually be behind her peers when she starts the second grade. There was a Gifted and Talented group that met once a week, but they never completed any projects and half the time they wouldn't remember to come get her for the meetings (she was 6 the whole year, and could barely remember what day of the week it was). I thought Montessori students would be encouraged to be kind and caring, but I know of more than one other child that has actually left the school due to bullying. One of the Upper El students even told me that bullying is worse at this school because the kids are "free to get up and bug you whenever they want." I know that Montessori is supposed to be self directed, but I don't see any reason that the teachers should not be clued in to what is happening in the classroom and intervene when it is really necessary.

Our son started in the infant room when he was just 16 weeks old, and it's been amazing to watch him grow and thrive. He's now in the toddler room, and every transition has been smooth thanks to the caring, attentive teachers and staff. Our daughter absolutely loves the Twos classroom! She comes home excited to share what she's learned each day, and it's clear how much her teachers genuinely care about helping her learn, play, and build confidence. The staff creates a warm, safe, and nurturing environment where our kids are excited to go each morning. We truly appreciate the communication, kindness, and dedication of everyone at New Horizon Academy. We highly recommend it to any family looking for exceptional childcare and early education!

They also offer discounted pricing when families are on vacation. These are two things most daycare centers do not offer. They recently opened and also offer discounts to the first few families who enroll their littles! There's also an in house chef and a great variety of foods offered for breakfast, lunch, and snack time. You can also tell that the caretakers really care for the kids there. Can't say enough great things about this place! Definitely a place of interest once my little one is ready for daycare.

He came to each class well-prepared. He has the ability to explain complicated problems in an easy way. He knows the subject very well and is always willing to tailor his classes to each student's special needs. He is also very knowledgeable and can teach any subject from math, physics, and chemistry, to computer science. He takes the tutoring job very seriously and took special classes from CU so he can be well prepared for the job. We tried several different tutors. Cameron is clearly the best.
