I come here 4-5 times a week with the boy that I nanny for. We've been coming since he could walk…read more(so 4 months or so now) and it's a great space for toddlers. There is a large grassy area filled with toy houses that the kids can go inside. There are also some swings and a pretty toddler safe jungle gym. There are a few things about the jungle gym that aren't great for the under 3 crowd, namely a set of climbing rungs built for taller kids and there are 1 or 2 spots on the second level that don't have a railing so if your child doesn't understand how gravity works yet they are liable to step off the edge and fall 4-5 feet to the sandy ground. There is also a cement area with 2 toy basketball hoops that I've witnessed many a stumbling toddler fall on. I appreciate all the benches for parents and misc. caregivers to sit and chat (a big plus if you're there for 1-2 hours a day and don't feel the need to hover obsessively over your child). Best part is that it's gated and that almost every area of the park is clearly visible from every bench (again, great if your an aware, but not obsessive parent). The only major con is the cleanliness of the park, specifically the amount of trash on the ground. There are a few garbage cans but I regularly see people just leaving napkins and wrappers on the benches or ground. It would be great to see people throwing out their trash or seeing the city clean up once in a while. Another lesser con is that nobody bothers to throw away any broken toys, there have been a few times that I've had to deal with a baby crying because I wouldn't let him impale himself on a jagged, broken shovel piece. So that's less than ideal.

It's in a kind of a polluted city, but it's a beautiful location and this park is one of my favourite little spots in all of Fall River.

A very old…read morepark Kennedy Park in Fall River is a lovely 57 acre park that features huge wide open spaces and some lovely views of Mount Hope Bay from the top of some hills. The park certainly has been around for a long time. First designed in 1868 it was originally simply called South Park but had the name changed in 1963 after the assassination of President Kennedy. The park has plenty of ball fields, places for picnics and open spaces for all kinds of fun. It also has fireworks on the forth of July and is the home of numerous community events. In 1996 over 20,000 people crowded into the park to hear presidential candidate Bill Clinton speak and a religious event held every summer frequently attracts well over 100,000 people. A lovely park that has indeed been around for a long time and is still going strong. It offers so many different things for so many different people.

A whole lot of…read morefields Swansea Memorial Park is frequently called Veterans Memorial Park or occasionally Town Park. The park is a vast area that includes a variety of different baseball, softball, and soccer fields. The local Little League as well as other groups have games here during the summer months. The park also has a nice playground in addition to basketball and tennis courts. All the facilities are in excellent condition and the entire complex is very well maintained. It gets crowded during the summer months when Little League games are being played, but there is plenty of parking. The park is very safe and has lots of families use it but on a couple of occasions I did see what appeared to be high school or even younger kids drinking, smoking and being quite rowdy by the wooded area. Curiously they seemed to be taking pictures of each other in curious and rather licentious poses and didn't seem bothered that groups of people were fairly close. But they didn't seem to be a danger to anyone but themselves. Despite the young knuckleheads, the park is an excellent place to play or watch some sports. And no matter what you call the park, the wide variety of facilities assures that there is something for everyone here.

Dogs trees and…read morelove Buffinton Park is a quiet little park on land that was donated to the town in honor of Thomas Buffington. A bit confusing to find because some on some maps the street and park are spelled Buffington and on others it is just Buffinton. Not a whole lot in the park, some swings and playground stuff and a few walking paths. Seems it's a popular place with dog walkers because we saw a whole lot of different canines while exploring the place. The park does have some pleasant old trees and a few huge glacier boulders. Unfortunately stupid graffiti is present in a few places around the park. None of it really offensive, just some local knuckleheads declaring their unending love for some girls, although I tend to doubt that spray painting your name on a boulder or wall really impresses many girls. The paths are nice and go off into the woods a bit but it's not large enough for a real hike. Just a pleasant little park for some quiet, see some nice dogs or read about the love life of a local kids.

While Buffinton Park appears to be a peaceful neighborhood space, there are so many discouraging…read morerules here that make it almost not worth visiting at all. First, no pets allowed! What, how?! During my visit, my husband and I were literally the only people in the park, and we can't bring our well-behaved, leashed dog to sniff around? Not OK. Second, there are so many signs posted throughout the park with the most ridiculous rules. I am guessing that at some point in the past this may have been considered a sketchy park (there are several large boulders covered in graffiti), but why make the rest of the community suffer because due to the childish acts of a few unruly adolescents? For example, there is "no congregating" allowed. This is so freaking vague and unnecessary. You mean I can't meet up with a few adult friends to hang out here or play a game of pick-up football? And I can't bring my [future] child here to meet other moms and kids for a play-date or picnic? With this kind of signage, what point is there to having a public park at all? The signs also state there is "no loitering in or near autos." I mean, I kind of get it. The intent is probably to discourage backseat teen make-out sessions, but does this also mean that if I drive my car to the park I'm not allowed to park it anywhere near where I'm going to be sitting? Again, vague and a bit nonsensical. Finally, the children's playground equipment here is dated and rusty. This is not really a problem on its own, but coupled with the park's other restrictions, I'm surprised there isn't a sign stating that visitors must keep off the playground entirely. In all, Buffinton Park is a little hidden spot in a quiet neighborhood where even the most law-abiding citizens will have a hard time figuring out what is allowed here and what is not. And since the park is not open after dark, make sure you stay far away after sunset and before sunrise, or your risk of being arrested increases exponentially. I'm not inclined to return.

Easy access to/from Boston, I've never run into bad traffic the way the Cape is perpetually backlogged. Also a convenient location where, if you're coming from the north, you drive through the cute downtown stretch of Bristol by the water filled with cafes and shops. 2. Free entry and parking. I love the state parks in Massachusetts but I don't love the ever-increasing cost of accessing a green space, especially if you're coming from out-of-state. 3. There's so much to do - walk the paved path along the water, bike, check out the small beach, picnic, etc. My favorite spot to park is by the playground/skateboard area and then do a loop around. There's also a forested hiking trail if you want to wander around a forest without any serious elevation gain. 4. The whole place is spotless and lovingly maintained. If you're swinging through Providence and want your fill of nature, definitely recommend this park.

Cabral Park is one of those Providence places that I have a bit of a soft spot for. I used to bring…read moremy nephews here when they were younger, and some of my memories of the park come from those days. It was always an easy place to bring kids when you wanted them to run around, burn off some energy, and spend a little time outside without having to make a whole production out of it. The park has definitely seen better days, though. There is a lot to like about the location and what the park can offer, but parts of it have looked worn and in need of some attention for quite a while. That's why I'm encouraged by the improvements and renovation work that have started to take shape. Providence has been putting more attention into improving its neighborhood parks, and Cabral Park is a place where that investment makes sense. What I like about neighborhood parks like this is that they don't need to be some elaborate destination. They serve the people who live nearby. Kids need somewhere to play, families need somewhere to get outside, and neighborhoods benefit enormously from having accessible green space. Cabral Park has that basic value, even when the facilities themselves could use some TLC. I have to admit that seeing improvements happening here gives me a little bit of nostalgia. I remember bringing my nephews here and watching them run around, and now I'm seeing the park enter another chapter. That's the nice thing about public spaces. They change, they get worn down, they get renovated, and eventually a new generation of kids comes along and makes their own memories there. I'm giving Cabral Park four stars because I think it has plenty of potential, but it still needs some investment and continued maintenance to really reach it. I'm hopeful that the current renovation work is the beginning of a larger transformation rather than a one-and-done effort. If Providence follows through, this could become an even better neighborhood park for the families who use it. For me, though, the place already has some history. I spent time here with my nephews years ago, and I'm glad to see the city giving the park some attention. I'll be interested to come back and see what it looks like once the work is finished.
