Typical for a local theatre, there's a lively collection of different types of shows, ranging from professional productions to local scout groups' gang shows. Over the years, I've enjoyed laughing to Greg Proops (from Whose Line is It Anyway), singing and gesturing along merrily to Sing-a-long Sound of Music, watching box office films and attending ballet and orchestra performances. If you plan to attend regularly, you can become a member and get reduced ticket prices. Local theatre is always worth a look

My salsa friend Hilary and I attended a salsa party here on Sunday night…read more Dance Option is a proper dance studio and purpose built for dancing, unlike some other salsa venues that we go to. This is reflected in the huge dance area with lovely wooden floors and full length mirrors, which are very useful and instructive to watch yourself The salsa party was great but really aimed at people who have done some dancing before. We did a nice bachata routine before the freestyle salsa began. Then, Miguel and Mayana, who have performed at many events, put on a salsa show, which was amazing. There is no bar but drinks are available from a vending machine. There are regular dance classes here but for now, Hilary and I will stick to our usual salsa class in Dorking.

Well they don't - get yourself down to the Boom Boom where Pete Feenstra's helping to keep the blues alive. The clubhouse at Sutton United FC is the venue and Mr Feenstra puts on a band there most weekends (and sometimes during the week as well). Over the past couple of years I have seen some great blues acts there - Popa Chubby, Joe Bonamassa, Devon Allman, Walter Trout and Nine Below Zero to name but a few. Drinks are at social club prices which means that you still get change from a fiver and the music is fabulous. he also promotes a fair few "tribute" bands which are not really to my taste but he's keeping music alive and that is really what matters. Entry fees vary but it's normally ranging from £8 - £15.
