The staff is excellent and very helpful. I also love that the youth department is on the lower floor while the adult area is upstairs--it helps to contain noise and keeps the youth department more kid-friendly. They have lots of great events for kids--like their Block Party at the beginning of summer and an annual Dr. Seuss party in February. They have a very large selection of books and can easily order one for you if they don't have it!

What a great library! I believe it has been in it's new location since October of 2012. I took the…read moreboys for the first time a few months back and we've been going at least 3 times a months since then. The exterior of the building looks great as it should since it's new! The interior is wonderful...lot's of room and the library does not waste any of it. They have community meeting rooms, quiet room(s), an internet cafe room, independant study rooms, children's section room(s), teenage section room, and even a game system room...and plenty of computers in each section (adult, teenage, and children) of the library. I know, Wow! I'm certain that I am forgetting one or two other rooms. The library also has wi-fi throughout the building, no issues logging on. My boys love the children's section of the library. They have computers with specific software/programs for children, puzzles, legos, and nice section to sit and read. Great view of DT Crown Point from this part of the library as well. The library also hosts a number of great events for children of all ages and even adults, I know I'm looking forward to seeing Astronaut, Jerry Ross next month. The staff has also been very kind and helpful each time I've asked a question or for help. Last note...the Crown Point and Winfield libraries operate seperately from the Lake County branch libraries.

I stopped at this local library just to charge all my devices and prepare for my drive further up north. The staff at this library was racist and judgement. Keep in mind I am saying this as a white female and witness the entire white staff. The ring leader is the judgement left flag only guy, in which the older white ladies just seem to follow lead. Do better and remember kindness does not cost a thing. Remind me again who pays for your salary?

There is clearly a lot to offer, and I appreciate the effort that goes into providing these services to the community. That said, I was disappointed by how frequently the issue of "tax-paying residents" was emphasized during our visit. On multiple occasions, a staff member who goes by the name Charlie, made comments about the library being funded by local taxpayers and emphasized who the library serves. While I completely understand and respect that public libraries are funded through local tax dollars, repeatedly emphasizing this point to visitors--especially children--can create an uncomfortable and unwelcoming atmosphere. The library also sends staff to local schools to introduce children to its programs and resources. Since the surrounding school districts include children from communities outside the library's immediate tax base, I believe the messaging should be more inclusive and focused on the resources and educational opportunities available rather than repeatedly emphasizing who pays the taxes. Hearing references to "tax-paying people" at least three separate times during one visit left us feeling as though we were being reminded that we were not necessarily considered part of the community the library was intended to serve. That is unfortunate because libraries should ideally be welcoming spaces where children and families feel encouraged to learn, explore, and participate. While I'm a taxpayer myself, our library does not come to his school, nor do they offer the service we were looking for.

I don't mind but they took this American classic off the shelves and out of circulation. There is now 1 copy in a 9 library system. There's is not a library in this country that should not have this book on the shelves. It's now in my personal collection and its perfectly readable and not in bad shape for a paperback book that looks like it was printed in 2006. Maybe I shouldn't expect the values to be different for a library system that felt it appropriate to put life sized cardboard cut outs of Donald trump inside of it a couple of summers ago

You can log in online to SWAN and order books to be delivered to Flossmoor Library to pick up - they even send an e-mail when the ordered item arrives. One of the best community libraries around!
