As a recreational lake, Lake Easton is great if you have water equipment or just want to go swimming. The water is a blue-ish green color and clear near the edges. The main parking lot was full, but it was actually better to park in the other lot because we were able to go to less crowded areas along the lake. Due to covid, group camp was cancelled and had to scramble to find campsite that has multiple space next to each other. We ended up in lake easton. Here is our experience. Pros: 1. Bathroom is cleaned and maintain through out the day. We were on site #57 in basic/standard campaite and there is a direct trail to the showers and bathroom. 2. There is direct parking in your site and close by additional parking for extra car. 3. There are several water spigots and trash bins. 4. The park ranger we encountered were nice, polite and friendly. 5. Lots of beautiful trail to walk. 6. The shell gas station next to the park has things you might run out of (ice, dishsoap, drinks). Cons: 1. The lake is far, its possible to walk if you don't have kids, floaties, snacks, towels. If you do, bring the car. 2. It's dusty! I'm just spoiled and got used to camping with grass. 3. The tent pad is small, it was only big enough for one 8 person tent. 4. They seem to be in eternal burn ban. We aren't able to have campfire and BBQ. We did have camp stove and that's how we made smores :( 5. Several reviews talked about the loud noise from I-90 (you can pretend it's the falls or the raging river) But i did not see anything about a train and the loud whistles that comes with it at 3 in the morning. Both nights we were there it happened. 6. Little to no privacy. It could be a pro if you have a group and you're right next to each other. We LOVE camping here! We stay on the RV loop and like the spots from 16-44 on the edge (not the middle). The lower numbered spots are too close to I-90 and have a louder traffic sounds. It's typically sunny with a breeze. There is a great 1.5 mile wooded trail along the lake. read more

This is a great campground with full hook ups and views of the lake. Tall beautiful pine trees. Large lots. Each lot has a 10 x 10 tent pad in addition to the RV paved site. Lots of room to feel like you were the only ones in the forest. read more

What a beautiful place to kick back and relax. We had such a great time here. I don't want to leave after our week stay. Also the Ranger officer totally helped us out because I accidentally took us there a day early. There was one cancellation thank the good Lord for that and he put us in there overnight until our spot was open the next day. Even though it was hot close to 90 while we were there because of the trees in the breeze that blows up from the water our RV sites were extremely comfortable... It's a very clean park and we just really enjoyed it. We will be visiting this park again. read more

The owner/manager is a jerk. Every time we drove into the camp site he came up to us to tell us to slow down, we are kicking up dust. The posted limit is 5mph. We were under 5mph. We went to the amenities building to play air hockey and pool. He said we can't play pool with our son because he is not 18. We spoke to other guests and they had nothing nice to say about the guy either. He is harassing paying customers. The place is run down. The hockey table is in ruins. Should be replaced. The pool table felt is ripped and all of the pool ques are broken except one. The building itself needs serious updating. The doors from the game room to the restrooms is blocked with a wooden pole preventing the doors from opening. That's a potential fire violation. There is only one means of egress from that space. We do not recommend and will never come back read more

This is a great escape only a short drive away from 20 cent plastic bags, $4.50 gas, 405 congestion, and anything else "urban" that needles you. Located along the shores of Lake Easton, Lake Easton State Park offers a variety of camp sites to fit a variety of camping experiences, from the dome tent backpackers to the supersized Taj Mahal of motorized camping. The park has bathrooms and showers, some sites have utility hook-ups, and there are trails leading through and around the park, including the John Wayne Trail (about 4 miles?) that leads into the town of Easton via a loop around the lake. First time here and among other camping I've done, we be cookin' heavy! Our neighbors were drooling upon witnessing the amount of food we were having for dinner. That was the best part. Although this is a family-oriented camping site, I do think they are very strict but I completely understand because of the children? They told us to turn off our music before 10p which, is unheard of in my vocab. If you are drinking, stay in your camp site! Do not be walkin' around w/a beer bottle in your hand. It's a NO-NO! The noise level is standard but it was completely quiet by 9pm. What??? Noooo! Their park rangers are on top of their rounds and they will scold you if need be. I don't like... So, probably won't be coming back here again. Wah wah wah... I do appreciate the restrooms are kept well and they have showers that require some tokens from their own machines available upon your entrance at the park. I didn't enjoy my overnight--so close to the 90 fwy. At first I thought it was the river I hear. Nope! It wasn't... Also, I don't like that i have access to internets. What??? Complaining? No, not I! We came here for a Labor Day Weekend camping trip, which was a ton of fun here! We found this place through the WA Parks site, as reservations are required prior to camping here. The campsite itself is not very large, yet the location seemed to be fitting for what we wanted to do. I highly recommend Lake Easton State Park for anyone who primarily wants to visit for swimming and doesn't want to drive far from the Seattle area. All of the camp sites include a picnic table, fire pit and has a designated area where you pitch your tents. At our site, we were conveniently close to the bathroom, trash and water unit, which was especially great. However, all of the sites didn't seem to be far from any of those amenities, since the campground isn't large. It looks as if you're close to your neighbor, but you can't really hear or see them when you're on your site. What I really liked about Lake Easton for camping was that it was heavily wooded, so even though it was 90 degrees out, the sun wouldn't directly hit you, which was nice. The trees bring in a lot of shade and even privacy from your neighbors. A site can hold up to eight people and three tents, and there are some specific sites for RVs versus tents. For the four of us and three dogs, it was more than enough room at one site. Checking in was very easy, as the person who makes the reservation needs to check in first before all others. This place requires a Discovery Pass and there's a $10 parking fee for one additional car at the site. A site can hold up to two cars, so would not recommend driving more than two; however, there are overflow traffic parking spots further from the sites on the campground. At the check-in is where you can also purchase ice. Lake Easton is beautiful. But to get to the beach park you need to get there very early to get a spot on the beach and to park in the lot. We came to the beach park in the early afternoon and the place was already packed, so had to park in the overflow lot and found another spot by the bridge to hang out at on. Get here early. Along the campground there's also a River Walk Trail, where Yakima River flows. It's a very easy and short trail, and the appeal is that you can walk to the river and even swim in. When I was looking at camp sites to book, it seemed that many people complained about the noise here because the site is off of I-90; therefore, you can hear the cars and trains pass by. But in my experience - it didn't really bother my friends or me and we couldn't really tell. We were mostly woken up by squirrels squeaking in the middle of the night! But the location here at Lake Easton was great and am really glad we found this spot for future visits. read more

This is an excellent place to go if you have kids (i have 4) close to cle elum and owens meats is for sure a place for the meat. The swim area is sandy and its close to grass lots of room to play and a great big toy and tire swing. The only downfall is the token system for showers not like that ruined any part of the trip the moon over the lake at night was fantastic. We will be back. Here's the low down on Lake Easton State Park: For those who have complained about the "loud traffic noise," my friends and I barely noticed it, so don't let that note deter you from visiting this state park. The state park is a short 1 hour drive from Seattle out on I-90 and for a quick weekend getaway in the summer, you really can't beat that drive! Yes, the park is RIGHT off the highway, but it's conveniently located to nearby gas stations where you can pick up provisions for the weekend (be it firewood or adult beverages). The sites are very generous in size and most of them have a short direct path to the restrooms. The restrooms have several stalls (at least in the women's restroom) and at least 2 showers, which is better than most other state park restrooms. They were clean for the most part during our stay. 2 important things to note before your visit: 1. Firewood is not sold inside the campground, you must visit the "guy down the street" (ask the Ranger) or a nearby gas station. 2. This park accepts tokens for the showers (and not quarters). As for the beach/swimming area...it is not very close to the tent loops. It is however, just down the hill from the RV loop. This is a shame and you'll need to drive to the beach if you're staying in a tent loop. Here's some tips for the beach: 1. Do arrive early if you want to park close to the beach. 2. If you arrive early find a nice spot on the grass area, not the sand. The sand areas are hot and it blows all over the place. 3. Do bring a float or tube with you as the water was freezing even in mid-August. 4. Bring cups for your adult beverages. read more

I camped here for 3 nights, 2 nights in the hookup sites and 1 night in the tent sites. They are two completely different experiences. The one thing both have in common is that yes, the park is very close to the freeway and it's loud. I chose it for its proximity to the freeway though so I couldn't complain about that. Other than that it's a very pretty park. Now for the two different parts of the park. The hookup campground was fairly quiet (other than the freeway sounds.) The people were peaceful and there weren't many children. Those that were there seemed to be supervised by parents most of the time. On the other hand, the tent campground was LOUD. Unruly children were the biggest problem here. There were a couple of kids who had plastic crates tide to their bikes with ropes and they rode up and down the street dragging them. Let me tell you, that was incredibly loud. There seemed to be no purpose to it other than to make noise. What kind of parent lets their kids do this?? I had a trailer so I could drown most of the sound out but I felt really bad for the dad across from me who was trying to enjoy camping with his daughter. He was visibly bothered by these kids but what can you do? It went on for most of the day. I never once saw a ranger inside the camping area on the tent side. I saw one a couple of times a day on the hookup side. My other big complaint here, and the reason they get 3 instead of 4 stars, is that they lock the gate at night and you can't leave. Several of us were trying to get past the rock blasting prior to 7:00 AM and we were locked in! Not only that, they didn't let us out on time. They were 20 minutes late opening the gate. I don't know about the other people, but I sat in the rock blasting line for 2 hours thanks to that. Had I left even 5 minutes earlier I would have gotten through. It doesn't seem safe to have people locked in by a big steel gate. What if there is an emergency and someone has to leave? I assume ambulances and police have keys to the gate, but I didn't even have cell signal there. I would have just died waiting at the gate to get out. I probably wouldn't stay here again simply because I don't feel safe being locked in without someone attending the gate. If not for that, I would stay again but not in the tent area. read more

This is a great place for a family who wants an easy camping experience. The campsites are close together, but laid out in a way that you don't feel on top of each other. One nice thing that really stuck out was the fact the place self polices the place. There were some seriously drunk ahole teenagers there the second night we were there, and the other campsites shut those loudmouths up when they got noisy after quiet time. Not having to deal with drunk jerk off's while camping is a HUGE plus. The lake swimming area was really nice (sans the goose poop all over, but hey...they were there first). The water was really cool due to the time of year we were there, but my son still had fun running around the water up to his knees. We also loved all the trails that connected to the campsites themselves, so we didn't have to drive anywhere. The lake is a bit of a walk from the sites, but there is a nice sized parking lot to park at. The only downer was the cleanliness of the bathrooms, they got gross real quick. By Friday night either many people camping ate stuff that really disagreed with them, or they just weren't cleaned well in general. If you're down with squatting, and don't have a good sense of smell - then you'll be fine. read more

Lake Easton State Park is a nice campground that has a small lake fed by the Yakima River and easy access to the Iron Horse State Park and John Wayne Trail. We camped there in late August in an RV in one of the full hookup sites. The sites were level and had an asphalt pad to park the RV on. We also had a brand new picnic table. All the hookups were in easy reach, i.e. no long extensions were needed for water or power. All of the sites in the RV loop were large and included a tent pad with the RV site, which seemed like a bonus to me. There was a beach and a small roped off swimming area that my kids enjoyed, they also liked the playground. What I really enjoyed was biking on the John Wayne trail. The park offers easy access to the trail and from there you can either bike or walk East or West. We chose to go East towards Easton which takes you across a cool bridge and through a short tunnel before you get to the town. I would definitely recommend brining bikes if you choose to camp here. It is close to I-90 so there is road noise and there is a freight train that goes by on the other side of the lake several times during the day (and night) but in an RV the noise is not so noticeable. read more

There isn't much to add. It's a nice campground. It has a rule enforcement system that is almost intrusive, but you are grateful for the lack of chaos that usually accompanies camping. Yes, you can hear I-90, but the tent camping site I had made that noise minimal. The freight trains however, were LOUD. There was one at 3:30am, another at 5:30am, and a third at 6:45am. Each one went on and on, with the obligatory rail squeal. The tents-on-pads thing was annoying, because the site was clearly large enough to separate our two tents. If we had any other options for camping at all in the nearby area, we likely would have chosen a different park for this reason only. The bathroom was very close by. Usually that's a plus, but people tramping within 6 feet of your tent all night gets mighty old. And you get to hear them all. I don't know why, but it was louder than the semis on I-90. And don't expect any hand soap dispensers in the bathroom. The last thing is that we came in on three motorcycles. They only allow one vehicle, but other campgrounds see two bikes as one vehicle. Not Lake Easton. They charged us for two extra vehicles. If we had brought our Discovery Pass, I think they would have waived it. Not sure. When we got there, there were rangers in our camp site, asking us rudely "Can we help you?" Yes. Get your truck out of my site. Anyway, it's a nice, shady campground, go there if you are really keen on choo-choos, alert rangers, and extra fees. (Also: 3 minutes per token for the showers). read more

One gripe about this place is the facilities maintenance. It's not terrible or anything, I just wish it was taken care of more often than it is currently. Also, with our most recent trip here, we had multiple sites that should hold up to I believe 16 people, but there were only two "pads" we could set our tents up on that could fit, at most, two tents? One of of our group members couldn't set his tent up on one of the pads, so he set it up elsewhere, but the ranger came by and told us it would have to be moved to a spot closer to the cars. I've read in a couple other reviews about the highway noise. The park is right off the freeway, I think it should be expected. Personally, it wasn't an issue the couple times I've been there, and what's nice about the place is that it's not a terribly long drive either. All in all, I think this place is okay for camping. read more

We loved Lake Easton State Park! We decided to drive down from Vancouver, BC to check the park out and we weren't disappointed. Location: Yes, the camp site is close to the highway but it didn't bother us whatsoever. The noise faded into the background. It was the train across the lake that woke me up a couple of times the first night, but I fell asleep soon after. The beauty of the park and its proximity to Seattle was well worth the occasional train or truck sound. Camp Sites: Although we tent camped, we stayed in the RV section of the park. Talk about luxury! Our site had all the hook-ups that an RV would need, including a water source. That was so helpful when cooking. Our view was amazing too, with a full uninterrupted view of the lake. I noticed after making the booking that the cost of our site was higher than those without a view in the RV section, and also of tent only section. However, the $10 per night more was well worth it. Super dog-friendly, which was refreshing as we have a high energy dog. Poop bags provided free for those who might need them. The Lake: There is a small beach area designated for swimming in the Day Use area of the park - ideal for people with children or mobility issues. Less ideal if you want a bit of personal space. The water is very cold, and I say this as someone who grew up swimming in the Pacific Ocean off Vancouver. As Laraine M. said, this is because the lake is fed by the Yakima river. A floatation device is a good call, although the rules of the lake seem to forbid it. Many people still had something to float on, which helped them tolerate the cold water longer. The Trail: We decided to walk the Lake Easton trail that starts near the RV sites. We walked around the lake, crossing from the Lake Easton Trail to the Iron Horse Trail via the Yakima River bridge. Unfortunately, the Iron Horse Trail doesn't loop back to Lake Easton - which we had misunderstood - and we cut across the rail track at the east end of the lake to get back to camp. I wouldn't recommend this since it involves cutting across private property, but we were getting pretty desperate at that point. Overall, it was a great experience (minus the trespassing) and I recommend Lake Easton to those looking for a peaceful camping trip. read more

The pros: it's close to Seattle and they sometimes allow fires when other campgrounds ban them. Cons: it's right by the freeway. The noise from traffic is relentless. The bathrooms were filthy and didn't have soap. There is a park ranger who enforces the rules religiously. This includes constant parking lot checks to give out tickets and hiding around corners to give out moving violations for creeping through stop signs without completely stopping. NOISY. I can't stress this enough. It's beside a highway. It's beside a railroad. Yes, you get used to it after awhile, but who wants to go through that adjustment, especially when there's not much to do in Easton? For $30/night, there are better options. Ones that allow you to hear the birds and leaves swaying in the wind. With that critique out of the way, overall, I enjoyed my camping experience. When we first arrived, we'd booked site 71, but upon arriving around 3pm, there was someone already there. So we drove around, seeking an empty campsite, before driving back to the office to see if it was available. It was. And it was a bit more private, too, so win-win. Site 82. I highly recommend it for car (not RV) and single tent camping. Not only is it near the bathroom (but not too near), it sits beside a large group campsite that's hardly ever in use and is quite fun to explore since it's mostly off the road. In other words, it's likely there will be lots of privacy and room to play. There must be five or six campsites behind and beside site 82, shielded from the road, along with a large "meeting area" with multiple benches. Ask before booking site 82 if the group site next door is in use, because I can't imagine being direct neighbors to a boy scout troop or something. On the other side of 82, there is a standard campsite (84, I believe, with 83 across the road). It's fairly close and there is a path connecting 82 and 84, but there are lots of trees for privacy and the path is a little overgrown. There's also a water spout at the road between 82 and 84. Useful, although we brought our own water. The campground itself sells ice for $2. They don't sell firewood (they refer you to a man in town, selling for $5 a bundle; about two bundles lasts five hours). The campground doesn't offer much entertainment, although there is a basketball court beside the bathrooms and I saw people playing badminton as well. Walking trails lead all around the campground. The real entertainment will be a short drive (yes, drive) down to the lake/beach, where there's also a playground and outdoor amphitheater. The town Easton is almost entirely shut down. Buildings are mostly rusted, and boarded up. Great for photographs, not so great for fun. But near Easton, there is Swiftwater Cellars Winery, in Roslyn. It's 17 minutes away from the campground, a little fancy, and they offer amazing wine tastings overlooking a golf course. Think restaurant-style. Five minutes from that, Suncadia Resort has a bar in which you can order a glass of wine and take it out onto the patio, which offers stunning views of the mountains, not to mention hundreds of stairs that lead down to the river, if you're up for it. Overall, there are things to do at and around the campground: hiking, the lake and playground, walking through mostly-abandoned Easton, the nearby Swiftwater winery, the Suncadia patio and/or trail down to the river... BUT, as far as falling asleep at night, you should bring some earplugs. Otherwise, it sounds/feels like you're sleeping under a highway bridge. Once, I was abruptly woken by a train whistle. The bathrooms were fairly dirty. No reliable wifi, data only. My Verizon cell service worked fine. You have to put up your tent on the designated "tent pad," so you can't just put it anywhere. You can't gather firewood. It's important to note that even if burn ban signs are everywhere, you might still be able to have a fire in the fire pit. Would I stay at this campground again? Probably not for $30/night. I'd visit the winery and resort again, but that's for another review. Mostly I wanted a little peace and quiet at night, and this campground being so close to the highway just didn't deliver. I'd go again if it was $10/night or free with a Discover Pass, I suppose. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at Lake Easton State Park. Upon arrival you are greeted with very friendly parks department people. They did let us know that they sell propane, ice and wood if needed. The campsites are some the nicest I have seen! They are very clean and have freshly raked sand tent pads in the full hook-up section. All of the campsites in the area are freshly paved. We were vey happy with our campsite #23. There was a small hill next to our site which acted as a sound barrier. There are trains that go along the tracks across the lake, but they do not blow any horns. They rumble for about 5 to 15 seconds and sound like thunder. The spots furthest away from I-90 are better. You can hear the traffic, but is sounds more like water rushing than cars driving by. We were in our travel trailer so I think that made a big difference on the noise level. There are some nice hiking trails the area that are well marked. There is an easy walk down to the beach which was beautiful and plenty of areas to hang out and relax. We'd go back! read more

This park was not a great place to camp. The fwy is so loud all you hear all night are trucks. The lake was beautiful. That's all I have to say about that. It was clean but no privacy at all in any of the sites. If you like going in groups, reserve two sites the tent spaces are small and you can't fit many people on one site. The tables are weather worn so bring extra chairs and tables. It was pretty but that's it. read more

Very noisy park. We can deal with that. However when we arrived we watched as the reserved site was cleaned. When we pulled in the host was rude and told us we would need to come back in 4.5 hrs as NO one is allowed Early check in. Explained husband was ill and it would be more than helpful but the host was just flat rude and sarcastic rolling his eyes about my husbands military service connected disability. I called the ranger who was Equally rude. I guess it's from the top down. Won't be back. Additionally, the host scampered around rudely talking about the problem We were having. We stay in many parks and this one due to staff who do not know customer service Or how to explain things in such a way that isn't insulting. We went on down the road. This one is a definite skip it. Unless you want to pay to be treated like dirt. read more

This spot was a big mistake and it was the worst vocation in my life. They have changed the rulers without telling us by email or a call. We were surprised when we arrived and they told us that no any kind of wood or charcoal fire is allowed. The lake is far away from the camping grounds you will need to take your car to swim in a cold dirty water. We were lucky that one of the families in the group brought a griller that works on propane gas. read more

The reviews here are pretty spot on. It's a solid 3 stars. We didn't have a site too close to the freeway and it was still pretty traffic-y sounding. It did become white noise so it was not a big deal. But keep that in mind when booking your site...try to get one a little away from the freeway. Yes, there are trains that come by. The first night, we did have one come through but our tent slept through it. Others in our group did hear it. Night 2: I thought the train was rolling right through my tent. It just kept getting louder and louder and the horn was blaring multiple times and the breaks were squeaking, metal grinding. Our whole group was awakened to this lovely experience!! Thankfully I fall right back asleep but many were not so lucky! There is a previous reviewer who talks about the strict ranger staff. This is TRUE! We saw them lurking behind trees to find bikers who don't completely stop at a sign. We also saw them with a speed gun on the road leading into the park where the limit is 15. We were so nervous there would be some kind of violation we had no idea about and get busted. They also came by and mentioned the tents should be on the pads. Only problem is we had 2 tents per site and there is only 1 pad per site. If they decided to actually enforce that, it wouldn't be good for many campers. Just play by the rules when you get there and you'll be fine! Make sure to get a parking pass (free with camping) or extra car parking passes ($10 a day) or you'll be ticketed. You don't need a Discover Pass if you are camping there. Bathrooms were just ok. I have seen worse. At least they flush! The access to the lake was the big drawback. It's over a a half mile to the lake swimming access point from the campsite (RV loop is right there). It's walking distance but after a long day at the lake (it was super hot), you may not be too hip on walking all that way back in the heat with 8 kids :) Parking lot has about 30 spots that fill up quickly. There is an overflow lot about 5 mins walk from the lake access so that is a good option. Lake water is really cold. Kids loved it but I did not see too many adults braving it! read more

This place is really nice... And although that you have I 90 right next to it...You start to actually get used to it. My husband and my kids love the sound of it, they said it put them to sleep. I however think I will just simply slip some earbuds in and listen to nature sounds. read more

This place is surprisingly gorgeous after a long drive coming from the east with no trees and lots of plains. We took a chance stopping and camping here after a long day of driving and were totally pleasantly surprised! Beautiful. Camps are close together but still private, with great, clean facilities (real, flushing toilets!). Beautiful trees and very quiet come nighttime. You can hear the highway but it's more like white noise and kind of relaxing. Will be back come next time en route to Seattle! read more

The trooper in charge of reservations doesn't know how to do their job, charged us a campsite for the wrong day then made us pay another night because another trooper claimed we hadn't made a reservation and wanted to kick us out, had no empathy for trying to understand the situation instead twisted our words, extremely hostile only didn't kick us out because we were all set on the campsite, if you go keep your receipt. Also, the water is freezing. Never returning. read more

Absolutely beautiful parked our RV over looking the lake. Fall colors are stunning. I have never stayed during summer but mid October quiet peaceful and relaxing. The bathrooms and showers look immaculate. The Park Rangers do a fantastic job of keeping this park up. My wife and I look forward to returning. read more
