My family has used Lake Forest Veterinary Clinic for well over 20 years, and I personally have trusted them with my animals for years. Unfortunately, the decline in customer service and communication I have experienced recently has reached a point where I feel I need to share my experience. During my last three scheduled appointments, wait times have exceeded an hour. I have also witnessed front-desk interactions with other customers that I considered extremely unprofessional. The final straw was Kozmo's scheduled neuter, which also involved removal of a retained testicle. We were told he would be ready around 4:00-4:30 p.m. My husband arrived around 4:00 and was told he was not ready. Because my husband had to work, I ultimately had to drive approximately two hours back from Fort Myers to make it to the clinic before closing. I arrived around 6:45 p.m. Unfortunately, both my husband's interaction with the front desk and my interaction when I arrived were unpleasant. I recorded my conversation, so I have an accurate record of what was said. What concerns me most, however, happened when Kozmo was discharged. I was handed my dog and his medications and sent home. I received no written postoperative instructions and no meaningful verbal explanation of how to care for him after surgery. There was no discussion with me about his incision, activity restrictions, feeding after anesthesia, signs of complications, follow-up care, or what to do if something went wrong. The only postoperative information I was given was that he did not need a cone. This wasn't simply an office visit. My dog had undergone anesthesia, neutering, and removal of a retained testicle. Whatever frustration existed between the front desk and us should never interfere with communicating the information an owner needs to safely care for an animal following surgery. After more than 20 years of my family trusting this practice, I am incredibly disappointed that this is where our experience has ended up. I will be attempting a second time to contact Dr. Griffin directly regarding my concerns and requested Kozmo's complete surgical records and postoperative instructions. I sincerely hope the practice takes the opportunity to address both its front-desk customer service and its discharge procedures for surgical patients. read more

Please do not go here! We had an appt at 4:30 today. Another person waiting asked if they were running a half hour behind normally!? The very rude front desk person with the dark hair very snottily said, like other Dr.'s office we run behind, amongst other rude things! I told her she was very rude and she did not have to answer us like that. She's mad because we questioned her! Don't over schedule and then be mad when we complain about wait times! Then another person came in to check in for another 4:30 appt. That's the time I'm scheduled!?! I said why would you schedule two appts at the same time if you're always running behind? She acts like it's ok to keep people waiting and was so dismissive! It's not! Ooh she was mad! Told me I could reschedule amongst other rude things! Crappy customer service! Her whole demeanor was hostile! Then she called me outside. Told me I need to settle down or leave as per Dr. Whatever his name is! Really!? She said everyone heard me complain and I need to settled down! So they heard me!?!? Who are you talking to telling me to settle down? I'm not her subordinate! She's mad, embarrassed everyone heard me question her! I wouldn't bow to her so we left! She said she's not here to abused! Neither am I! Keeping people waiting and then being indignant when they question you is weak! Who abused you buttercup!?! No one! Power trip much!?! My dog has a UTI and we were sent away untreated as I questioned a bully. A snotty bully who should not be working with the public! As for Dr. Whatever his name is, you should send her to some kind of trainng. Funny thing is, I'm not the only one who question her. She singled me out as I would not let her rein supreme over me. I wouldn't take my dead dog here! In the meantime my poor dog is left untreated. They are awful and should be ashamed! read more

Dr. Peavy and Dr. Griffin are the best, especially in hard situations. today was hard and Dr Peavy and the entire team were my rock through it all. I arrived with no appointment before they even unlocked their doors with my very sick 1 year old Maine coon. the door was opened with no hesitation I was ushered in and made to be so comfortable while we waited for the doc to arrive. they were honest but caring and helped me make the right choices for my little guy who was riddled with an aggressive juvenile cancer. we decided that crossing the rainbow bridge was the best thing to do for Raffi as his liver was failing as well. their caring and true love for animals and their parents in this office is just one of the reasons why it is where all my babies go for their care. if you are in need of a doc for your fur baby - I highly recommend the Lake Forest Veterinary in Avon Park! read more

This was a first appointment to establish a vet in the new to us area. Lake Forest Veterinary Clinic came highly recommended. We were welcomed upon entering the office by a friendly professional lady. She went over information in regards to our fur baby. We were escorted back to an exam room and there was literally no wait to see the Vet. Dr Peavy examined our dog and asked questions that pertained to our visit. He recommended a few medications to help the quality of or dog's wellbeing. Happy we chose this facility. read more

My 8 year old Pomeranian Miss Coco had multiple very advanced mammary tumors on her stomach. These tumors became infected and called for an extensive, invasive, and very difficult surgery. Dr. Griffin did an amazing job explaining my options, being realistic, and explaining his plan. My final bill was significantly less than the estimate I received. The care my sweet Coco received as well as the understanding and support I received from Dr. Griffin and his staff was truly outstanding. There was never one moment that I felt uncomfortable or unsure about the care my pet was receiving. They are the BEST vet I've EVER been to in my entire life. Great people and they actually care about your animals (fur babies).

If I could give less than one star, I would. Last week I had a pup be rushed to Lake Forest for emergency surgery. We were super glad they were able to fit him in. He had two punctures, and a jagged gash on his groin. We requested the two punctures be left open due to bacteria, and the fact that pockets of fluid tend to form underneath holes made from the tusk of hogs when they're stitched up. The vet did NOT listen to our request. We were told that we would be called when he was out, and that we would pick up afterwards. All fine. After hours and hours of worrying, I finally called shortly before closing. Come to find out he had been out and were going to keep him overnight. Without calling to notify me. They told us he was having a hard time waking up, and not waking up normally. I rush there and get to him, and as soon as they open the kennel on their nasty holding crates, he gets up and tries to run out of the office. The next day I inspect the stitches to find that the vet disobeyed our wishes, and stitched my dog like a Frankenstein. We went ahead and just called to make another appointment to get the out the following week (that was going to cost us another $50). Receptionist tried to make it a drop off, I said no. The day before said appointment I call to confirm, and she asked if it was a drop off. Again I said no. The morning of the appointment, they once again tried to make it a drop off and I said absolutely not I've said appointment multiple times. After waiting in my car for thirty minutes, they came and tried to take him to the back. Normally I would be fine with it, but the fact that I had read previous horrifying reviews, I said no. Receptionist comes out and says that "the vet said that if you can't cooperate you can take your business elsewhere" and I did. The second vet I went to was horrified at the stitch job, and the dog has to have a couple extra stitches due to how badly he was repaired and healing will take longer. The puncture wounds on the dogs chest and inside of the leg should have NEVER been stitched together. I will NEVER recommend Lake Forest Vet again, and will be telling people to stay far far far away!! read more

This clinic is the only one that agreed to give an appointment to me for my dog while I was vacationing in Florida. The Doctor listened to my concerns, gave his recommendations for proceeding as well as the reasoning behind his recommendations. We ultimately decided that the best course of action was euthanasia. Dr. Aaron Peavy helped my little girl when I brought her in. (Nothing another vet couldn't do) My first and now last visit the meds cost more than anything. I could have gotten her antibiotics for under $20 anywhere but I just wanted to start treating her quickly so I paid the ridiculous marked up prices for the meds. When I ran out of her apoquel and wasn't in town they offered to ship it to me. I said I would be back in 6 days no time for that. I asked if they could just call it in to a pharmacy. I was told we don't write scripts here the doctor prefers you buy them here. I told her that's illegal, she came back and said doc Couldn't call it in because no pharmacy carries it. Publix carries a whole pet line of meds. I called them back and gave her the number for Publix. Betty called back stating the vet needed to see her before prescribing the meds. So, my BF called back and asked if they would please ship them and of course she agreed to ship them. I record all my conversations and will be reporting them to fl. Board and vet associations. Anytime a vet chooses money over the pets well-being I would worry. Not sure how many people are paying 5xs what they need to for their pets medicines but know you do NOT have to. A vet must write a script if the owner asks. So to show how smart this place is. They lost a patient, are being reported (and I'm sure will be fined) were caught in a straight up lie and their people are hearing the truth and will now ask for a script. So how did they do. This is a GREAT vet. He has an old school charm to Him and truely cares about the patient. I braught my deathly ill beagle puppy in and had her checked out. Turns out she had a severe case of Parvo, with only a 30% chance of survival. The vet offered me two options one in hospital care $$$$ or in home care done by me He recomended the later as I was short on cash. He gave me all the meds and instructions and sent me on my way He did a follow up call personaly to see how she faired about a week later. She survived and is now a healthy 28lb pup. My husband and I recently moved to the Avon Park Fla area and had not found a vet yet. On Dec 23, 2014, around 4:30pm, our 9.5 year old Boxer could not stand. I immediately called Lake Forest Veterinary Clinic explaining our situation of just moving into the area, and what was going on with Benny. At 4:30 in the afternoon I asked if there was an emergency vet in the area, the receptionist told me to bring him right in. I couldn't of asked for a better vet or staff to have taken my dog to. They were professional and personable, didn't rush us. Dr Griffin was caring and didn't rush us even though it was late in the day. He took time to talk with us about having pets and living in Fla and what to expect. I can honestly say we found our vet. I would highly recommend Dr Griffin and his staff. Luckily Benny had some sprained muscles and in a few days he was back to his old self. read more
