If u are going to tackle the more challenging trail, I suggest you wear something better than running shoe, because surface can be slippery, especially on the Grandma Gatewood trail and whispering cave trail Best time to come is during rainy season or after a big storm, because the water flows are higher. Otherwise you might just see a small trickle from the waterfalls.

Plenty of bridges and paved areas. You can really make your Hocking Hills experience as intense as you'd like. With features such as Old Man's Cave and a creek with several water falls, you do not want to miss this park. My personal favorite season to visit is autumn, watching the trees shed their colorful leaves. Gorgeous views, great photo ops, and fun for the whole family. Not to mention free parking.

The trailhead is clearly marked with a boot brush, a fun butterfly art piece, and multiple tall, colorful informational signs about history, geology, and trail maps. It's straight up the 1980s…read morein this park, with all of the vintage metal playground equipment that you and I grew up with that totally would not fly today. Basically, all of those rides and slides that would burn your legs in the summer are here and still providing kids with hours of fun at Kachelmacher. There's the metal twisty slide, the long metal straight slide, the metal character riders, the metal monkey bars, the metal straight bars to do your flips, the metal geodesic dome -- all the metal. We visited on a mild spring day, so the metal equipment wasn't a problem, but I imagine that in the summer, the equipment will get hot. Just be aware of that. There are also more modern things, like swings, a play firetruck, a teeter totter, a wooden fort and a plastic play area for younger children. There are also lots of picnic tables at which to sit, as well as a shaded and covered area with picnic tables for a party, and a fireplace hearth. (It wasn't lit when we were there, so I'm not sure if it is working or if you're allowed to light it.) There were no restrooms that I could see, so plan accordingly.

The only unsightly thing about the park were the racist comments spray painted on the rec center there. But as we were leaving, some men from the city were there to clean it up. Several sections that are all right next to each other. Soft padded ground. There swings for both toddlers and older kids, several slides, monkey bars and ramps. It almost feels like stepping into another environment entirely, especially knowing the area is dedicated to wildlife conservation. Our campsite was quiet and well spaced out, which made it easy to enjoy the surroundings without constant noise from nearby groups. At night, the sky was incredibly clear, and the lack of city lights made stargazing surprisingly good. Facilities were simple but adequate, which fits the outdoor-focused setting. Everything we needed was available, and the grounds were kept in good condition. The staff we encountered were welcoming and clearly proud of the property, offering helpful guidance about the area. Camping at The Wilds is more than just pitching a tent--it's an opportunity to spend time in a unique natural environment that feels both peaceful and expansive. It's a great destination if you're looking for something a little different from the usual campground experience.

My incredible Yurt had bathroom, air conditioning, and a bed! I woke at 5am to see the sunrise and was not disappointed. The deer were calling (they sound like a mix of boar and moose calls) all night and it put me right to sleep LOL Dinner and breakfast are included along with a Safari tour. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience! Every team member I met was friending and inviting ensuring my visit was all I wanted it to be. I met a couple celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary and they were glamping and took two safari tours ;) I highly recommend you stop for a Safari trip and maybe even stay the night!
