This was so much fun! It was my first time ever canoeing. Hocking shills Canoe Livery is so organized, professional, and made the whole experience a breeze. This was the perfect summertime getaway, in my opinion. When you first get there, you register your group and get your paddles and life jackets. Then you wait with your group and others for a school bus loaded with the kayaks and canoes to take you downstream to your desired starting point. My family and I chose the 7-mile long path. Again, I thought the whole process of getting us out to the water was super organized! But, we went on a day with multiple groups of college students and a 50+ church group of little kids, so when we actually got out on the water it was pretty hectic to say the least... The views were gorgeous and it was really really relaxing once we let everyone go on ahead of us. Canoeing is actually much easier than I thought! After you've completed the stream and pull back ashore to the Livery, they take your canoes and kayaks and you're off! The people working there were very nice, as well. And don't forget to stop by the gift shop afterwards if you're a souvenir T-shirt person like me! I really recommend this place especially if you're vacationing in the area for Hocking Hills! read more

We visit Hocking Hills Canoe Livery at least twice every summer to go canoeing and we always have the best time! There's just something about floating on the river while listening to the birds chirping and the sun beaming down on your face that makes everything in that moment perfect! There are two trips that you can take. A 5-mile and a 7-mile. We have done both and they're equally as enjoyable. The cost isn't too expensive. If you have a military ID, they will give you a military discount! Woot Woot! The staff are always so friendly and kind! The bus drivers always make the experience enjoyable as they are usually quirky and fun while driving you to your location. We will continue to visit Hocking Hills Canoe Livery as we always have a great time and we appreciate the great service the staff offers! read more

Went canoeing here last Saturday, I had never canoed the Hocking. They are set up to where you can complete your hold harmless agreement while you're waiting in line, so your check-in goes quicker. The young lady that checked me in was very helpful and informative on how things worked there. It was very busy, after checking in I only had to wait about 15 minutes for the ride to the launch area. Once I got there, the canoe was in the water waiting for us. I did the 5 mile route, their longer route was shut down. The water was low in places but that's expected this time of the year. Talked to quite a few people along the way and laughed at a lot of others. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. read more

So much fun! All the employees were incredibly friendly and helpful and made it a smooth process (I had never done something like this before). You are allowed to bring all sort of stuff in the boats (we had coolers and bags of food, etc) which is a big part of the experience. It was hard to find a good spot to stop and picnic because the river was so high, but we were still able to pull off once. We did the shorter route - because the water was high it was the only one they were currently offering. It took us just over two hours which I felt was perfect, but some people in our group wanted it to last longer. So that part just depends on your preference I guess. I would definitely do this again! Regular canoe/kayak experience. Good if you are local, not worth the trip if you have any place closer, in spite it's sitting on hocking hills. No any views or wild life, water is mostly slow and low. For $26 for a kayak rental, I had a great relaxing 3 hour adventure on the water! Rentals were easy, the life jackets were clean, staff was very friendly. It was very easy on the river, I hardly had to paddle if I didn't want to. I saw kids, adults, teens, some in canoes, some kayaks, and some just floating on an inner tube. There were hardly any rapids, it was very easy for someone who has been several times in large lakes, oceans, and rivers. Great place for beginners or those who aren't sure if they can do it. Had a great trip down the river with friends. Some in canoes and others in kayaks. Memorial Day Weekend, but not overcrowded. We still had long stretches of the river where it was quiet and we saw no one. The customer service was excellent, equipment was clean and in great shape, and we had a blast! The negative reviews about crowds really have nothing to do with this business. The Hocking River has many inlets where people bring their own kayaks and set in for a day on the river. There are several campgrounds along the river and another canoe livery, so expect some summer crowds on holiday weekends especially and be patient as you navigate through groups. Great place for beginners and pros alike. They offer a 5 and a 7 mile course. We chose the five mile trip simply for time factors. It was a peaceful trip with easy paddling and a good current through most of the trip. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The facilities are clean as well as their equipment. They drive you to the starting.point with gear (either your own or rented) you kayak downstream back to your vehicle where staffers help pull your boat out the water. We used our own kayak, so I cannot rate their boats. Fun trip and a must do for the Hocking area. read more

I've been on 2 trips here and had an amazing experience both times. Weekends are a bit busy so if you are new to the river a weekday might be a better option so you aren't so close to other people. I just got back from my second trip to Hocking Hills Canoe Livery. Both times myself, and a couple friends rented one of the camper cabins. They are very clean and well maintained. It had a full sized bed and a bunk bed, mini refrigerator, microwave, and a counter top. It even had AC! Each cabin has two chairs and a little table on the front porch, a fire pit, charcoal grill and a picnic table. They have 4 bathroom/ shower rooms that were all fairly clean, and never had to wait in line to use them. We also did a canoe trip. The 3 of us rented one canoe, and the staff packed up our canoe, paddles, life jackets, and dropped us off for our 5 mile trip back. The trip took us about 2.25 hours, and we didn't get out and explore to much. The river was to shallow at a couple of points, and one or two of us had to get out and push a couple times along the way. Hopefully one or two more rains will fix that! All in all we had a very enjoyable trip. 5 miles was plenty long for us...glad we didn't do the 7 as our arms and bottoms were starting to get a little sore. read more

It was ok, I've experienced much better outfits than Hocking Hills Fox's Canoe Livery. First of all it's not that scenic at all, not much to look at as far as nature and it's super crowded if it's the weekend. Second, their equipment is junk. My kayak smelled like someone peed in it and the kayak itself was scratched all over and warped. Third, the water was too low in some spots, I had to get out 3x to drag my kayak back in the water from bottoming out. So I give this an average rating, for what it cost and what you get I probably won't be back. read more

For the most part, we enjoyed our Canoe / Kayak trip with Hocking Hills Canoe & Livery. Service was mixed. We went in two days earlier and were told not to make a reservation, that we could walk right in. When we arrived two days earlier, we learned that a double kayak we wanted was gone with a large group that was using them all day. OK, we did a canoe. The young woman at the front desk was great. She helped us select appropriate boats for two adults and two kids. She gave us advice on paddle sizes, etc. Off to a good start. Until... They sent us (with two young kids) on a bus to the drop off with a bus load of high school football players.... Needless to say, my children learned a few new colorful words. The river was extremely crowded, and it wasn't quite as quiet and natural as we had hoped. We were told the river was high, but we still got stuck in several areas. Knowing this, I wouldn't bother with the trip if it hasn't rained in awhile. Overall, the trip was nice, equipment was good, and staff was friendly. They are more concerned about filling boats than their customers' experience which is a bummer..... read more

These guys rock. The place is awesome, clean, and they make the process effortless. If your whole party isn't there a little early there is a good chance you won't make the bus closest to your time. Not bad to wait a few extra minutes though. The equipment is clean and well kept. Everyone is exceptionally nice. The river itself is good. It is rather slow going but plenty of banks to stop and break. Incredibly fun. Give-or-take $25 per person for a fantastic time. Can't beat that. read more

Omg such an awesome experience! My mom and I have rent camped for years and I've been wanting to try cabins for awhile. So when I found this gem online we could pass it up! For the cabin: it's a cute cabin with a queen and bunk beds, microwave, refrigerator and a ledge with barstools. And of course AC, a ceiling fan and extra outlets. Each cabin has its own parking, a fire pit and a table! We were even able to bring our dog who love love loved it! For kayaking: we went on one of their craziest days of the season and they were still super helpful and gracious. The river was perfect! I do recommend though getting there early during peak seasons as we did have to wait (which wasn't a big deal just a side effect of the busy day) I definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a convenient good place to stay in hocking hills. (We had to make 3 runs to the Walmart only 1 min away) read more

With that being said you don't feel like cattle being herded, they all are helpful and want you to have a great time. Which we were asked by everyone multiple times if we did. The thing that sold me, as we were waiting in the van for the driver who was looking for the last group, another employee come by and started up the van and AC for us. We have canoed with different liveries on many rivers and this crew is by far the best at what they do. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. They work so hard for you to have a good, but safe time on the river. I suggest calling prior to showing up to check on river conditions. We went canoeing today and the river was high so they were only letting experienced canoers take a canoe out. Otherwise you were relegated to a raft. They only had the shorter of the two trips available. They say the short trip should take about 1.5 hrs but you can always lengthen that time out. We were definitely on the river for over 2 hrs today. We got to base at 9:30 am and we were one of the first to push off on the river. The trip couldn't have been more perfect today. It felt like the entire river was ours. We didn't see another canoe / kayak / or raft until our trip was almost over. As with anything in the summer, it can get busy on the weekends and holidays but as the saying goes, the early bird gets the worm. We had the perfect trip today. The river was running quick due to recent rains but we absolutely tried to take our time and just enjoy being out on the water. I can't say enough about Aaron, Cindy, and crew!!! Glad we did it for the experience but won't do it again. Girl at desk wasn't overly helpful but was nice enough. Felt like the prices were super high. $75 to rent 2 kayaks. The gentleman who took us to the drop off was very nice. He mentioned that we picked a good time/day to come and that weekends tend to be crazy with parties on the river. Kayaks were dirty/beat up and had old water in them. The life jackets smelled sooo gross, like wet musty sweaty laundry. The first half of the trip was horrible, terrible and no fun. Water was low so got stuck a bunch. Found trash in the river and saw graffiti on the way. But, the last half was much better. We did the 5 mile trip and were very happy when it was over. It was too long for beginners in my opinion. Views were better in the last part too. read more

Most unprofessional experience from start to finish, incredibly long line when we arrived to check in, they had no life jackets so we had to wait. Was told they would call us into the bus in numerical order but in actuality they just picked and chose who got to get on, regardless of number. Was gave conflicting information on what to do with the piece of paper with your amount of kayaks/canoes for your party, every person I tried to give it told (as I was told) said it was supposed to go to someone else. Once we were bussed to the drop off location they were OUT OF KAYAKS. We reserved online! And the guys unloading the kayaks says they were all on the water and didn't know what to do. Suggested we could take another boat even though kayaks are more expensive and we have the wrong oars. Finally after an hour and 15 mins some kayaks finally arrived, we were able to get on the water. Honestly I wish I could get my money back but every person I spoke to was so incredibly unprofessional I doubt speaking to anyone would have helped. DO NOT PLAN YOUR TRIP HERE. read more

Plenty of canoes and kayaks, life jackets, and paddles for everybody on a busy Labor Day. Well staffed, nice waiting area, clean restrooms, fun people. We had to wait about 45 minutes to catch the ride to the drop off point, but it was fine and pleasant enough. Wear shoes you can walk through water in! In some places, the water was shallow and the kayaks and canoes got stuck, so you have to get out maybe three or four times and float your boat downstream. Make sure to bring along a small cooler with plenty of snacks and drinks! There's a cubby on each kayak. They also have treats for sale at the check in area. Load up! I know I think I'm sporty and in shape and probably you do, too. However, unless you are used to a regular upper body workout or do this a lot, when it comes to choosing between a 5 mile ride and a 7 mile ride, DO THE FIVE MILER. My god, almost four hours of paddling a kayak in 88 degree heat is strenuous. I know when you look around at the other groups and families with small children, you think, oh yeah, I can totally do more than them. Well, you can, but you may spend the last hour hoping your arms don't fall off!!! read more

The staff was so friendly and definitely made the experience even better! My wife and I took our first canoe trip in our own canoe here. At the end of the trip you can drive down by water and pick it up but you my have to drag it up the the hill a bit (30 yards) unless you have 4x4. Staff had descent customer service. We went on Friday before Labor Day so river was not busy. Facilities and shower houses where very clean. We showed up an hour before trip and we where dropped off by the top of the hour for the 7 mile trip. read more

Price was steep. I think we ended up spending over $80 for 2 craft. The gear was pretty junky. Most of the oars seemed to be broken and taped up. The life jackets smelled mildewy. The river was super low and we got stuck at least two million times. It would have been nice if they had warned us about this, maybe suggested coming back another day or something. The 1.5 hour ride turned into a 3.5 hour ordeal. I cut my leg on a piece of jagged plastic from my beat up kayak one of the times I was trying to push it out of a hangup. No fun. read more

would give this place a 3.5. we mostly came here for camping and when we got there, decided on doing some canoeing as well. as for the camp site, it was pretty convenient. parking is right next to the site on the grass, so didn't need to carry our gear far. on this particular trip though, the bf forgot to bring the tent and the chairs so we didn't have too much to carry. the camp sites are right on the bank of the river, which was cool. but there seemed to be a lot of construction going on. the opposite side which was supposed to be camp sites had chopped down trees and uneven ground, so not sure what they're doing there. there's a fire pit and picnic table. there's a few trees around that you can strap a hammock up between. as for canoeing, prices are a bit high. they let you pick between a shorter and a longer trip and the longer 7 mile trip is 52$ for a canoe and 30$ for each kayak. there's some mention of 15$ by the hour of their website but they don't honor that it seems. read more
