Lake Mayer has changed mightily since my childhood days of standing face height to the millions of ducks feeding them breadcrumbs in my youth. Today, I made a visit to go to the Southeast Crab festival that they have every year. This is my second year attending. Lake Mayer has a nice pavillon that is very comfortable. They also have some very clean and well stocked and well lit bathrooms which really impressed me the most considering it is. publci space. I was grateful to dind both toilet paper, hand washing soap, and paper towels in this place. There was a park attendent nearby to serve as both the watchful security and the restocker for supplies. I will stop over to take advantage of the 3mile footpath in the future. read more

This is quite an impressive park with something for everyone! I wish we'd had more time and energy to explore it! With plenty of parking and located conveniently close to the highway, the park is easy to find and easy to enjoy! There is a path that circles the whole lake and park, and once you cross the bridge to go to the center of the park, you see how much more there is! Sports fields (soccer and baseball and tennis are ones I saw), as well as covered pavillions and a building with facilities, and WHAT'S THAT? A dirt bike track?! It looked like a park I would frequent for outdoor exercise and activity often if I lived in the area! read more

Who doesn't love the park? Lake Mayer is conveniently located on Savannah's southside off of Montgomery crossroads. There are two parking lots, the larger one being located on the crossroads but there's also a much smaller lot on Sallie mood drive. There are always local events/runs happening on the weekends. Typically Saturday mornings and early afternoons. One lap around the park is just about 1.3 miles. Throughout your walk you'll also see workout stations with instructions on how to operate. Great park for the kids. Tennis courts are available on a first come first serve basis. Kids are free to ride their bicycles on the path and there's even a strip of runners turf which if you're a runner you know how great that is. read more

This is a really great place to get some outdoor exercise. We came on a Saturday and got our steps in. There's tons of parking and most of the path is shaded so it doesn't really matter what time you go. There are public bathrooms in the interior by the play ground, and port o potty's around the track. There always seems to be an event going as well, so you'll hear some great music. It is a beautiful lake to walk around early morning before it becomes hot. The trees the pathway everything about it is nice.

This place has everything you need for an active lifestyle! A walking trail with a special lane for bikers, a skate park for daredevils, and a baseball field for future Yankees. I didn't have time to check them out, but it's an absolute must-visit! read more

This park may have been dog friendly in the past but it is no longer so. NO dog signs everywhere. Lake and path look nice from a distance but you can't go anywhere except a nasty old parking area on the edge of the park with your dog. Any park that excludes dogs deserves zero stars in my book. If you are a dog owner, don't bother! Since they are anti dog, I am anti Lake Mayer. Thumbs way down! read more

My kids and I love this park! As a parent, it is essential to keep a list of parks or places for my kids to run free and let out their overabundance of energy. Lake Mayer Park (LMP) is the perfect place to get some fresh air and do whatever their little big hearts desire. Really. It has so many options and has almost everything! - Parking - There are two parking lots. One on the outer loop, as soon as you enter the park and the other lot is on the island in the lake, by the playground and sports areas. - Park Amenities - LMP offers so many options for just about any type of sport. There is a 1-1.5 mile loop (I provide a range because my Fitbit tracked it at around 1-ish mile, but according to the website, it's 1.5 miles). As soon as you enter the park from E Montgomery St, you can park in the lot and I suggest parking there if you want to go around the track. If you want to access all other types of sports, continue on the mini roundabout around the running man statue and continue on the overpass to get to the island. Park amenities on the outer loop include: - Paved Track with two sides (padded and paved), complete with a "Health Trail" fitness course (same as the one you find at Tom Triplett Park in Pooler and JF Gregory Park in RH). There are benches and picnic tables along the track - Boat Ramp - Dog Exercise Area Park amenities on the island: - Restrooms - Playground - Community Center - Screened pavilions (you probably have to rent these) - Tennis courts - Basketball courts - Baseball/Softball Field - Volleyball Play Area - Skateboarding ramp - Open field next to basketball courts I'm sure there are a few other things not mentioned here, but this is what I personally observed. - What we did - We usually go around the track at least once and then my kids always like to play for a bit at the park. There are two areas in the playground and tons of stuff to keep them well entertained. The only thing again, is that whoever designed the parks in Savannah, and maybe in GA obviously didn't think it through and did not incorporate shaded areas on the park into their design. Enter le sigh.... - Heads Up - *No pets allowed with the exception of ADA trained dogs, both on the outer loop and on the island. However, like previously mentioned above, there is a dog exercise area on the outer loop. *Also, watch out for duck poop. Those birds are sure full of it! Their poop is everywhere, but thankfully only around the beginning of the trail. Did I mention there are tons of wildlife there? This past visit, we saw a turtle out of water, on the grass. We've never seen one out of the water here before. There are tons of ducks all along the trail by the water (but away from the track, thankfully). Every time we visit, we have a great time. The mission gets accomplished and my kids get their exercise in and so do I from chasing after them around the track. The kids sleep so well after an afternoon spent there! And frankly, I do too! read more

This is a beautiful park and awesome jogging and fitness trail. Only HUGE downside is they've closed their restrooms and there is only a gross ports potty that looks like it's never been cleaned. The trail is 1.5 miles. They have tennis courts, a boat ramp and I guess the lake is fishing. They also have a tiny box with food items that says, "leave what you can, take what you need" a neat concept. Reminds of of what they did on the walking dead. read more

I mainly come to this park to walk the circuit around the artificial lake. It is conveniently located off of the Montgomery Cross exit on the Truman. It is a well used park with tennis courts and skateboard rink. Numerous birds flock here. They have made some renovations in the last few years. read more

This is a great walking path. It is well shaded and inviting. I felt safe because everything was open and no little closed-off areas that I have observed at some walking trails! It is a great place for families as there are a variety of spaces to enjoy. There is a skate pad, tennis courts, disc golf, pavilion for cooking out, playground, fitness stops along the trail, ... I was in need of a place to go and workout since all gyms are closed and we all need to practice in social distancing so I went to Lake Mayer, and I'm so glad I did. Lake Mayer is surrounded my a large loop. According to my watch it was about 1.4 miles. Inside the loop is a beautiful lake with plenty of people fishing. 2 basketball courts, 2 tennis courts, and even a skate board park. I come here everytime I'm visiting family! I think it's 1.3 miles around and along the path are different excercise stops. Really pretty during sunset. Great for families, picnics, running meets, birthday parties, etc. There's also a skate park, playground, tennis courts, disc golf, and grills read more

We had a wonderful time here. The lake is lovely, home to many different species of birds. The skate park is well setup for beginners to intermediate riders. I discovered this park when we evacuated Charleston a few weeks ago during Florence's approach. I was looking for a place for a run and I found the perfect place. A beautiful lake is surrounded by a bike/ walking trail and just to the left of the pavement is a strip of rubber running track who needs to protect the knees by running on grass or dirt when this rubber track is here. The loop around the lake is a mile + , the views are great and the fellow exercisers will keep you motivated. read more

Lake Mayer is a great place for really almost anything! From walking, jogging, tennis, fishing, skatepark, dog park, and some random dirt track thing? There's fun for everyone here! They really have payed this park out for its best advantage. There's a very large lake, around it a roughly 1.5 mile walking/running trail which is very nice and well kept. Lake park is very sizable with plenty of room for fishing in the bank or even putting your boat in and cruising around! In the middle of the whole lake area tho is the tennis courts, skate park, buildings, changing areas, places to park, boat ramps, like they got it going on at this place! The only thing they lack that I could tell is a big empty area for some type of game or sport of some type. Other than that tho this park really does have all you need. Conveniently located in midtown near Sandfly, it's a perfect place to come kill an hour or so if you have some spare time or want to get a quick jog in after class like me! read more

We come here once a year to sail. There is a small lake and a sailing center which is very active. There is lots to do like tennis or basketball and paths for walking and running. There is a remote control car track that is pretty amazing and seems like every year we visit racing is going on and great to spectate. Overall this is a fantastic place for leisure and recreation. There are so many reasons not to give this place five stars . First you've gotta have the reflexes of Spiderman in order to avoid all the duck & goose poop . There are so many geese , ducks and seagulls it's hard to avoid running into them ( they act like they own the place ) . With all that said the people are friendly and nice , they have a rubber track which makes it easier on your joints to run & walk . It's 1 1/2 miles around so two times around and you've gotten in 3 quick miles . On a personal note God blessed me out here allowing me to meet a man whom I consider to be closer then a brother to me . So this place will always hold a special place in my heart because of that . read more

Nice Savannah park. You can do some nice walking, jogging, fishing, or cannoe/kayaking in here. I have launched from the concrete boat ramp or from the shore. Both are very easy access. Watch for the duck or geese fertilizer which can be plenty in some shore areas. Nice bridge. read more

Aggressively, belligerently even offensively unfriendly to dogs yet absolutely covered in goose poop. I looked it up online before going and found it was dog friendly. Apparently that only applies to a tiny little unfenced dirt patch sandwiched between dumpsters, an intersection and a parking lot. Ironically that's the only space that doesn't have a turd every 3 feet. Everywhere else is covered with signs telling you dogs aren't wanted and annoying park goers asking if you've seen the signs. Other than that this has to be the ugliest park in Savannah. The plants aren't particularly well taken care of, there are few trees for shade and it's trashy. Apparently they spent their entire budget on signs dictating every single activity you could possibly want to do in a park and had no money left over for refuse bins for people to clean up after themselves or sanitation to clean up the goose poop. They put some blue plastic barrels in the parking lot and a couple dumpsters by the dog exercise area and called it good. And somehow, even with a half-empty parking lot it manages to be crowded because the little island is used for sports while everyone else is crammed into a single trail around the perimeter. We normally go to Daffin or Forsyth on the weekend. Dogs are welcome, they're clean and friendly with lots of space and bog old trees for shade. Lake Mayer park is on another level: best for people with a deep hatred for dogs but who don't mind constantly stepping in feces. read more

For the Savannah area it is one of the nicer walking/running tracks. Once they finish the rubber track, I will give a higher rating. The construction on the track has taken several months longer than expected! The Geese droppings are very bad around the track!! read more

I played tennis there a couple of times this past month. Each time the water and goose droppings were so bad. If they cannot figure out how to grade the area for the water collection, then build a crosswalk over the water! There was no way around the goose droppings or water getting on to the courts. The ammonia smell from the droppings was so strong it was offensive. read more

I come to this park probably once or twice a week just for a quick walk/jog, so my review is only on the track. I love the fact that there is a cushioned rubber trail alongside the cement track. It is wonderful for the knees. The entire track is well kept with plenty of lights (since in the winter it gets dark at 4:30 ). The track is around a small lake so it's very picturesque, HOWEVER this means that ducks/geese/bird are often on the trail ( I'm terrified of birds so this isn't ideal but they leave you alone...majority of the time) and where there are birds there are bird droppings so watch out. read more

Twice in the past week, two men who appear to be in there early 20's have harassed my 14 year old daughter as she runs the jogging trail around the lake. I am with her, but she is faster so is ahead of me. Depending on where we are on the track, I may lose sight of her.These men ran right up on her, in her face, They start laughing, pointing at her, saying something in Spanish which she does not understand. They are virtually shoulder to shoulder to her. Once they were on bicycles and once they were on foot. It has been the same two men each time. I notified law enforcement as she does not feel safe even though it is during the day. They approach her when no other walkers/joggers are nearby. They may be harmless, but it makes both of us uneasy. read more
