The trail is pretty easy, with a bunch of nice little stream crossings, and the painfully scenic combination of dappled tree cover, and rock bluffs off to your right hand side as you hike out. Then, about a mile out, as you walk along the bluffs you'll suddenly see a giant stone corridor, leading into a series of beautiful stone chambers, some dark, some sunny, all mossy, wet, cool. If our experience with our toddler is any indication you can poke around in here for a long time, looking for different ways under, over, and around. Just be sure to save a little bit of energy for the walk back. It's not the easiest place to access, down a long unpaved one lane road with a tiny parking lot, but it meant we had the whole place almost to ourselves. (Though more cars did fill in on Sunday afternoon.) It lacks the immediate splendor of some of the other more famous places around here, but all told it's not far from my platonic ideal of a hike.

The water was a bit shallow and we got stuck a couple times in the river part of the swamp but through the swamp it was perfect. There were quite a bit of the Asian carp so something to be wary of if this freaks people out but we were just fine. Extremely beautiful and something I would definitely do again. Longacre Park is a beautiful park in Fairview Heights. They have many scenic walking paths…read morethroughout the park. A few years ago, the city redid the playground. The new playground is a lot of fun. My children love to play there. The pond is a great place to fish or check out the ducks and geese. You will see a lot of them. Longacre Park is great! It's a shame a family was nice enough to give the state 500 acres to have this nice area close to…read moreamenities with three small ponds. However they don't mow it at all. When I say that I mean at all. Went there three times this summer hoping maybe we just missed when they were grooming it and it was 3 to 4 ft tall of grass. They have no given past to two of the ponds and they're very small. Completely overgrown with Lily pass and every time you throw your line in you have to take the the weeds off it. In addition you get tangled because of it. If we were to catch a fish it would run to the underwater bushes and get tangled up. What a nightmare we gave you three chances it's a shame you don't take care of it. Who would I report this to that they need to take care of this if it's owned by Missouri and given to them free it's a shame taxpayers can't even use it

Well they have a boat ramp into the water. They have a golf course..that's it..No picnic area, no bathrooms, no playgrounds..so we went on down the road to where it dead ends and loops into a parking lot area at the lake.. That's it.. I really wouldn't call it a State Park. There is some historical value here but NO signs or trails..nothing to tell you about it. I guess you have to look it up on the internet to find out any information about it. The lake was pretty though and we did stop to take a couple of photos and saw a guy in a row boat catch a fish.. Maybe there is something we missed? We will have to check it out another day..
