If you are heading…read morewest along I-10 to this hotel, it won't be that long after crossing time zones from Eastern to Central. My stay here was on the night of August 24, 2022. Getting to this hotel from I-10 was pretty easy and was easy to find as well. There was ample parking available when we got here, but if the hotel was busier, I think parking may be limited. After getting parked, I went inside to get checked in and get keys for the room and check out the room. The room is your standard room with two queen beds. We headed out to get some dinner before coming back. After getting back from eating, it was time to check out what the hotel had to offer. I started with the lobby area and main entrance. One thing of note was that as soon as you come into the lobby, they did have some type of scent in that area. I don't know if it was to mask something else, but it definitely set off my allergies and gave a low-grade headache, so I tried to limit time in this area. This lobby area has lots of seating there, along with the breakfast area. There is also an area for laundry. Before going outside, there is an exercise room available with various options. Then I made my way outside to check out the pool area. The pool is a nice size and looked good. Although most of the public use areas such as the exercise room, laundry, etc. would require the key card to gain access, this was not the case here on this visit. After checking out the grounds, it was time to get back to the room and start to settle in for the night. One thing that I did notice in the room that certain areas definitely show the age of the hotel, especially in the shower/tub area of the room (room 204). Also, I noticed in the rooms there were very few outlets and USB connections as well. That also lends to the age of the hotel. Another thing of note is that there was only a trash basket in the room. There was no separate recycling available. Now, for the sleeping and such. The beds were very comfortable. I had a really good night's sleep that night, as confirmed by my Fitbit as well. This is definitely an important aspect of a hotel, so this was really good. I was well rested the following morning. I went downstairs a little after 6 am when breakfast was available. Everything was already set up in there. Looking at the options though, on this experience, nothing really appealed to me. Everything was pretty much pre-packaged items. One was ham and the other was sausage, of which neither I am a fan of. I did end up getting some orange juice though and had something else later that morning when we were back on the road. Overall, the hotel covers the bases anyone would look for. The beds were good and there were several things available to do on the property. I was just still not a fan of the lobby area due to that scent they had going that set off allergies and a headache. When it comes to pricing, I know prices for everything have been going up, but I definitely felt that I paid for a suite, even though I only did a regular room with two beds. With limited options in the area, I will still consider coming here again if my travels warrant it.

However it's the first accommodations I have reserved that has had NO in room refrigeration or microwave. NO Ice Machine access but ice buckets in the room? Extra roomy Bathroom with no counter space. Iron & ironing board was in the hallway restroom for communal use?!? It is somewhat understandable that this is a historic building but there apparently is no sound proofing/insulation between the guest room walls. Noise from doors shutting, conversions, people walking on the old hard wood floors, the noises never ended. Many times it would have been very beneficial to have staff in site as children were constantly playing and running the halls, also clunking exercise equipment in the gym! Texting or Email was the only way to get staff response, which it was usually relatively quick.

We received clear instructions via text on how to download the electronic key app, along with the entry code and parking directions. No issues at all getting in. The room had electronic key cards for both the side door and the room itself, making it very convenient. Parking was easy--we parked at the park directly across from our room, within view. The streets were well-lit, and the area felt safe and charming. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, with the A/C and TV working perfectly. The bathroom was impressively large as well. The building itself is adorable, thoughtfully designed, and beautifully decorated. My only suggestion would be to add a larger vanity in the bathroom, as there's ample space for it, and maybe a task light for makeup. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely return if given the opportunity.

A Mixed Experience at The Pearl Rooftop Bar…read more We recently visited the Rooftop Bar at The Pearl in Rosemary Beach, and unfortunately, our experience was a real mix of wonderful service and some disappointing lapses in customer service. First, the bright spot was our server, Lauren. She was friendly, attentive, and made excellent drink and food suggestions. She was a pleasure to have as our server and truly represented the level of hospitality you would expect from a Forbes-recognized hotel. The grouper sandwich with fries was wonderful -- I would give the sandwich an 8/10. However, what happened when we ordered it was frustrating. Lauren asked if we would like the sandwich cut in half, and since my husband and I were splitting it, we said that would be great. We were then told that Executive Chef Jordan had instructed the kitchen staff that under no circumstances were they to cut a sandwich in half for a customer. Seriously? For a property known for outstanding service, this was a head-scratcher. We weren't asking for anything complicated or unreasonable -- simply to have a sandwich cut in half and placed on two plates. This is exactly the kind of small gesture that should be part of great hospitality. Instead, the kitchen turned a simple request into an unnecessary customer-service issue. I would give this aspect of the experience a 2/10. There was another issue that seems like an easy fix. My husband asked about the Virtuous Veggie sandwich, which was still listed on the menu. Lauren told us that it had been taken off the menu, along with the Mojo Boiled Peanuts, quite some time ago. Again, for a Forbes-recognized hotel, why are customers still being handed a laminated menu with items that are no longer available? Updating the menu seems like a pretty basic operational detail. Finally, there was the HUGE fan on the deck. We completely understand the need for air movement on a hot day, but this fan was so loud that it sounded like a jet engine taking off. There are much better alternatives. Misters and quieter, effective fans -- like the systems used at places such as Tommy Bahama Restaurants -- can keep guests comfortable without overwhelming the entire dining experience. So, our overall experience was definitely a mixed bag: Grouper sandwich: 8/10 ‍ Kitchen/chef customer service: 2/10 Lauren and our table service: 9/10 Lauren deserves a lot of credit for making our visit enjoyable despite the other issues. She was fantastic. The Pearl has a beautiful setting and the potential to deliver the exceptional experience its reputation promises. But the little things matter -- especially at a luxury property. A chef refusing to allow a sandwich to be cut in half for two guests who are sharing it is simply not the kind of hospitality I would expect from a Forbes-recognized hotel. Hopefully, management will take these comments as an opportunity to look at the guest experience from the customer's perspective. Sometimes the smallest accommodations make the biggest difference.

We are traveling with a tiny pop-up camper. Our very first interaction with Hotel staff was a rude woman that came outside and wanted to know where we planned to park the car/camper. We shared with her that we typically back in one space, disconnect, and park right next to it (as far from the front door as possible) so not to take up any prime parking. I would like to mention that at late afternoon that the lot was almost empty (less than eight cars in the entire oversized parking lot). We asked where the laundry room was, and was told that it was out of order (upon our closer inspection It appeared that the laundry room has been out of order for a while and is now being used as a Storage room). We were informed that the hotel was under new management, and there was an expectation that many of the broken things would soon be repaired. At this point, we noted a Business Center kiosk with an out of order sign on in the lobby. The hotel clearly has been renovated within the last 10 years, but some of the finishes are starting to wear. We went to use the gym and found that the television was not working, there are no wipes provided for the equipment, nor are earbuds available to listen to the television which wasn't working anyway. There's broken equipment in the corner of the gym and even the clock on the wall needs a battery. Bedroom HVAC was problematic and was reported to the staff to be addressed. Our breakfast experience was OK, the breakfast area was clean enough and hot food was provided. We arrived at the end of breakfast hours, and we're surprised when the breakfast hostess immediately closed the doors without conversation, as they typically inquire if anybody wants anything further before they close, not a big deal but a nice courtesy. Overall, compared to the stays that we've had, this location was not up to par with the IHG brand. Hope that new management will offer training and address some of the relatively minor issues and take care of the details that can make a big difference for a good stay.

On the positive side, the breakfast was pretty good and the staff was friendly. Outside of that though, nothing else was very good. The rooms were not very clean, the floor was sticky, and we had to use a spray because the room didn't smell great. The most frustrating thing was the sink. The water barely dribbled out of the faucet. If you're having a hard time finding a hotel during a football weekend, there are worse places than this. At least it was safe.
