I've walked down the pier many times over the years to look out over the ocean. I don't actually recall paying but there is a fee to walk on the pier as a non-fisher. I came here recently at night on a full moon. There were so many people on the beach, around a drumming circle up on the grass, at the restaurants, and even fishing on the pier. As we walked down the pier, we saw a rocket go off in the sky. Since people are actively fishing, it can be precarious with people casting in the wind and hooks flying about. I can recall walking out during the day and seeing so much sealife from above. A great spot for getting ocean breezes, to chat on the beach but without the sand, with a great view, with a railing that makes it safe for children also, and benches in the middle. read more

The original pier was built in 1959 so that Lake Worth could lay sewage outfall pipe into the ocean. The wooden fishing pier opened in 1960 to the delight of anglers everywhere. Storms wrecked their wrath on the pier through the years. It was destroyed by hurricanes Frances and Jeanne in 2004 and remained closed for almost 5 years. In 2009 the rebuilt pier was opened as the William O. Lockhart Municipal Pier at Lake Worth Beach. Mr. Lockhart worked as the pier master after his retirement from a plant nursery business. He passed away in 2003. The pier is 960 feet long and when it was rebuilt it was 5 feet higher than the previous pier. It took longer to build but it was done so it could withstand storms better. Fema paid 90% of the 3.4 million dollar construction cost. Cousins Peter and John Thanopoulus who run Benny's on the Beach also operate the pier and lease it from the city of Lake Worth. If you would like to visit the pier you can dine at Benny's on the Beach, the restaurant that is actually on the pier. If you want to just walk the pier it is only $1, $3 if you want to fish. You can pay by credit card. Look for the entrance to the pier to the left of Benny's. It's a little difficult to see at first. Parking for the pier is in the pay lot. It's $3 an hour to park with a minimum of 2 hours of parking. Anglers love the pier. I saw quite a few out during my visit at dusk. Fish that have been caught from the pier include big jacks, blue fish, snook, mackerel, sailfish, and kingfish. There were also the pelican brigade hanging out looking for their cut of the catch. Over 200,000 people visit the pier annually. Even if you aren't fishing it is fun to stroll out on the pier to catch the beautiful view. read more

Here for Thanksgiving and to push away from the food... we decided to go to the beach! It is a nice beach but coming from area that has excellent beaches I can critique the beaches! Lol. Anyway first ding by me is no free parking, everywhere is pay to park! Next the beach is pretty the sand is clean but it is very soft! Walking any distance is a commitment and workout! Lastly it is a pro and con... there are condominiums everywhere, I am sure decades old (not that they are not maintained) but they are there! The pro is the city had enough foresight to not allow them too tall! They are at a reasonable height between 4-6 stories depending on how low the ceilings would be inside the units! There are restaurants across the street to stop and get a bite or souvenir. Nice place to visit but can't say I'd like to live here! read more

Not a place for your family. Went with the little ones and wife to have a fun little fishing Sunday all to be completely disappointed first trash cans over flowing with trash blowing in to the ocean. Second the amount of people smoking weed was unstoppable. Could not get to a spot were it wasn't blowing in the face of the little one. Then the amount of dirty talk would make even I sailor blush. By my self I could have looked over most of it people will be people but with the family it's a no go this place is like a free for all. read more

Nice pier, however it does cost money to walk out on ($1/person, more if fishing.) Visiting mid-May in the evening, most people on the pier were fishing. That was fun to watch, however to watch we found ourselves walking over fish blood and crabs. Good experience, but if you're looking for something clean and romantic, just keep that in mind. Awesome pier with spectacular views and tons of waves. The beach is quiet and not too crowded in the mornings which makes this a perfect place to come out, throw your towel on the beach and feel the sand between your toes. There are also a couple of food options by the pier -- Benny's is right on the pier and there are other restaurants nearby. Lake Worth is a city with a ton of old Florida charm and this beach is one of the best in the county. It's huge, pretty clean and really nice to go to. Plus the pier seems to go on FOREVER and is super impressive. Always love coming here! read more

So to "sight see" on this pier, it will cost you a buck... ok, not a big deal, I paid the same thing when I visited Clearwater to see the sunset. It's a buck. There is a restaurant on the pier that was pretty happening mid-day after lunch time. I didn't try it as I was just hanging out killing time before heading back to the airport. Great views here, very pretty! As for fishing, it looks like a good spot! You can see the fish IN the water from the pier, the water is that clear!!! I don't fish, so I'm just going to base this off what I saw. As for parking, it's more crowded near the pier...if you head to the other side away from the pier, there was more parking to choose from, which was metered. This is a hidden treasure. Even on the day of an event, the beach was not too crowded but parking was tight. The beach itself was beautiful, helped by a "perfect" day. People seemed to be having a good time and we even ran into a bridal party right after their ceremony. I also enjoyed checking-out the local artist displays (I'm not sure if they are always there). This is a clean and secure beach with plenty of security (police) present. I'm not sure if the security is always here or if it was just due to the event. All in all, I would return to this beach. read more

We stayed in Lake Worth and love that the beach is so close! We were on the beach with 10 minutes. There is plenty of parking, life guards on duty, you can easily rent an umbrella, and the beach was clean. The beach was yellow flag so the waves were intense, the kids loved it. We had a fabulous time and loved every minute. Showers are close to parking lot. Benny's on the beach is awesome and right there. Love this beach!!! read more

The William O. Lockhart Pier above Lake Worth Beach was built in 1960 but destroyed by Hurricanes Frances & Jean in 1994. It took 15 months & $3 Million+ to rebuild. The reconstructed concrete-&-wood pier reopened in 1999. It extends 960 feet and is 1 of only 2 piers on the Atlantic Ocean in Palm Beach County (the other is the Juno Beach Pier). It stands 20' above sea level. The farthest stretch of it is built 5' higher than the previous structure. Its wooden planks are designed to break away during high waves and heavy storms. Any future damage should only require plank replacement, keeping local fishermen within a cast of their next dinner. Facilities include: Bait shop, Fishing Rod Rental, Restroom, Restaurant, Benches, Shade Structures, & Bait-cutting Stations. So much fun, it is well worth the fee to fish off the pier when the fish are biting & the water is clear. Pelicans are nearby, & you may see sting rays & other sea creatures. But no one is happy about the fact that there is a charge just to walk out onto the pier. read more

It's a pier on the beach. With a bar-restaurant. Lot's of metered parking and white sandy shores. Ample picnic tables located between parking areas, safe and well lit. Benny's restaurant on the pier has Karaoke nights and plenty of food and beverage choices. They do charge a small admission fee for just walking or fishing from the pier. Been trying to contact these deadbeats (not the first time!!!) for four hours and they sure are reluctant to answer the TELEPHONE. Treacheries they adopt are rolling the phone call to a fax machine; picking up the phone and being silent; picking up the phone and hanging up immediately or just letting it ring. The problems are inherently in the MORNING; the person on the afternoon shift ( a gentleman called Roy?) ANSWERS the phone and is polite. If the person on the AM shift doesn't want to service the public, perhaps that person should hang up their shoes and retire to WELFARE. If I'm still hot in a couple of hours, I've got two genius kids who would love to start a blog about the Lake Worth Pier joke. The pier is open! So is the fabulous Benny's on the Beach restaurant. Trust me just go! And Google Maps has the wrong route! They will get you there eventually but there's no need to go all the way to Lantana to cross the Intracoastal. It's unbelievable rudeness to take money to come in the municipal pier .. I ve been walking with my son around and decided to stop by to see sunset , no money were with me .. so we were not able to get in and were explained the rules by very aggressive attendant ... how much else we should pay taxes to make free access at least to municipal piers .. read more

The beach is incredibly clean. I highly recommend parking close to where the toilets are (parking spots in the 200s). The meter is two dollars per hour. The beach is incredibly clean, and there is a notable absence of dogs that you would otherwise see you on Juno Beach. Lifeguards watch the water and will blow the whistle if they see a shark. Clean sand, warm water. I will come back here again. read more
