Our second time with Lakeside was great again! We called to reserve a boat outside of peak dates and we're lucky to get a big pontoon for a group of 8 folks. Plenty of room to fish, and listen to music. The carpet was super wet, not sure how that happened but everything did get soaked on the floor. But, we couldn't complain to much. Even with cloudy weather we had a great time and kept the boat all day. Drop off and pick up were easy peezy. We'll definitely continue to use LFR for our summer and fall trips up north. read more

I am so, so disappointed. Renters beware! I am sad to leave my first-ever negative review, but your life and health might depend on this one. After renting the "top of the line" 2007 tritoon from Lakeside Fun Rentals August 2024, along with a tube/rope for a day of family fun on the lake, we were horrified by the lack of cleanliness and upkeep on the boat, the musty/moldy (and not close to sufficient for the listed passenger count) life jackets, and the lack of a safety flag-- which the company said was unnecessary because it was "not legally required in the state of South Dakota". These red flags should have been enough to warn us away, but with no way to get our money back for the full day's rental at that point, we decided to make the best of it, get our own life jackets, and make a day of it. My husband is someone whose professions leads him to see the outcomes of emergencies regularly and is one of the most overly cautious folks you will ever meet with our children's health and safety because he's witnessed time again what careless or reckless behavior can lead to. In spite of all safety measures imaginable in place, after a few short hours on this boat, our 17-year-old son was nearly taken out by the metal piece of the boat which holds the rope to the boat careening back at him, nearly missing his head. This mechanical disaster obviously cut our day at the lake short. Even the gentleman who came to pickup the boat remarked that the mechanical error was truly alarming and that we were lucky no one had been injured. To be clear-- our family has been regularly boating for decades-- mainly on our family's Malibu in Idaho-- but also in many rentals at many lakes over the years. We know our way around boats and what how they should work and be treated. This experience stands apart as beyond alarming and truly dangerous from beginning to end. After leaving a FB comment (after having nearly two dozen calls ignored over two weeks and having a promise from the employee who dropped off and picked up the boat to have the manager reach out to us right away also fail), we spoke to the owner, Scott, this afternoon- 19 days after the incident. Scott insisted that the mechanical error was due to "gross negligence" and "dangerous behavior" on our part likely caused by "flooring the boat" (frankly impossible due to the very low horsepower in the boat... but we digress.) Scott stated that in addition to not refunding us for the portion of the full day rental we paid for but were unable to enjoy due to the gross mechanical error, he also fully intends to keep our $500 deposit. Actually. Scott was disrespectful, dismissive and unfortunately exactly what you would expect from the owner of the company whose boat nearly did a great deal of harm, or worse, to someone we love. PLEASE beware and spread the word when considering supporting this business. We love supporting small local businesses and realize how important doing so is to our local economy-- but we warn against supporting companies like this whose products are dangerously out of repair, moldy, and without proper safety equipment, and whose ownership do not take ownership when things go wrong. We are earnestly hoping that this review will help others avoid a similar or much worse outcome and also that it might encourage the company ownership to do better for their customers and community going forward. read more

We had booked a boat two months in advanced. We are from out of town. We planned our whole trip around the rental boat. They called us and left us a message on Friday at 455pm to let us know they didn't have a boat available for us. We tried to call back and got no answer. We tried calling the number list on the website and they were out of service. Horrible communication and poor planning on this business. They did give us a refund but did not try to accommodate or even attempt to find us a another boat. Would not recommend them at all. read more

We rented a pontoon a few years ago.the size and amenities were what we wanted,but the engine had issues. The starter was bad and had to tap on it to start it. We were stranded in the middle of the lake for a hour. They knew about the problem but didn't tell us until we called them. read more

I would not give a star but had to pick something in order to do review. Customer service was terrible! Boat we were given didn't have a ladder. Cut my toe trying to get in boat and another person in group cut his shin. When explaining my concerns was hung up on. Full story below but is rather lengthy. Just sharing my experience so others are aware of terrible customer service and boats may not be fully functional. In the future will definitely go elsewhere even if it means paying more. Rented a pontoon boat for the day over Labor Day Weekend. Rented it for Saturday and with the weather looking like it'd be better for Sunday called and switched to Sunday. Was told the same size boat wasn't available but would give us the next size up for same price. Sounds like a good deal right? Once we got out we realized the ladder was broke. The last 2-3 rungs were missing. We had 6 adults and 4 kids. With no latter it was very difficult to get in the boat after being in the water. I called the office and was told, "Oh sorry, the ladder is on order. We'd bring you another boat but don't have one." So we kept boat out and tried to make the most of it. While trying to get into boat I was trying to reach latter rung and my food slipped of and hit a piece of mettle and cut my toe open. Another person did something similar and cut shin. I called back last night and today. I kept being told, Scott, the owner would call. Called back again and spoke with Rob again who informed me that he did talk to Scott and because they already gave 100.00 off for switching boat that was more than enough and he asked, "Don't you think that's more than enough." I explained they said switching to different day was not a problem and they said we'd get a bigger boat at no additional charge. The discount wasn't for there not being a ladder. He still kept saying what they did was more than fair. I did use a couple curse words at this point as I continued by saying, Is it fair I cut my toe while trying to get into boat because there was no ladder?" He asked that I not swear and said, "Well, I will talk to owner but I'm busy and have to go" and hung up phone. He also said it's not their problem that they've ordered the ladder and it hasn't come in. He said several people have rented the boat with no ladder and haven't had any issue. Just a really crappy thing to do by saying no problem in switching day and saying we'll get bigger boat at no additional charge and now they're saying the 100.00 discount is enough for not having ladder and getting injured. Thought we tried to save a little money by not going to Lewis and Clark Marina but really was not worth it by getting unequipped boat and really, really bad customer service. read more

Rented a pontoon and from start to finish the whole experience was awesome. Everything was ready for us when we arrived and the actual boat was in great condition. He took care of us every step of the way. Would definitely recommend and if we're ever back in town I will rent again. read more

If you are considering renting any equipment from Lakeside Fun Rentals, look elsewhere! They are very unprofessional and rude and will keep your deposit without cause. We rented two jet skis from them in July 2016 which they claimed we damaged despite our verbal acknowledgment of the pre-existing damage before we rode off with them. We placed multiple phone calls and wrote several emails to this business requesting a release of our deposit but they never responded to a single email nor did they ever return any calls. Update: One of the deposits was returned. However, someone from this outfit recently contacted my son's employer and has threatened a lawsuit for libel over an unfavorable review. Poor business practices, indeed. read more

We recently used Lakeside Fun Rentals to rent a pontoon boat for a full day for our annual family reunion in Yankton. For the most part everything was great. They were nice, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. They offer different boats, have rental tubes to tow, and have life jackets for both adults and children. We did have a minor hiccup because there was a problem with the motor on our pontoon rental, but they worked diligently to get it fixed and get us out on the water. We ended up losing over 2 hours of water time, but they handled it well and after some talking they prorated our price for the time lost. Ask for Marcy or Travis when you go, they'll definitely take good care of you! We look forward to hopefully renting from them on our next reunion trip to Yankton! read more

We recently rented a pontoon for a full day. The overall experience wasn't bad, but their were several issues. After leaving the dock which was a good drive from the rental office into the Nebraska side, we realized their was no anchor on the boat. We contacted the office and they said it should be in there, but if it wasn't they had a spare at the office, but that would do us any good. They made no effort to get us an anchor. In addition the stereo did not work on the boat. On the positive the pontoon's interior was in very good condition and had a nice canopy. With the full day rental we also got the use of a 20' water mat which the kids loved. All in all it was a okay experience just know the location is slightly inconvenient, and check the equipment throughly before leaving the slip. read more
