Lakeside Performance Gas Services is the worst kind of scum. And the fact that they have a legal authority to come on to your property and turn off your gas without an appointment is a recipe for the kind of tyrannical garbage behaviour that the technician exhibited when he came to my home (unannounced).
The technician had on a very unprofessional uniform, and gave off scammer vibes. When I said I didn't believe he worked at Enbridge in the quick dialog where he was insisting I let him into my home, he told me that "he was going to change my meter today no matter what" because why should I have a say in the matter right? What he did not say was that my gas would be left turned off after he left. So with the (promptly paying) homeowner home, and without telling me, and without an appointment, this "piece of work" individual disconnects my gas. To me this is a violation of the basic agreement and expectation a common person should expect to have with Enbridge, which is, to NOT SHUT OFF MY GAS WITHOUT ARRANGING IT WITH ME PERSONALLY UNLESS IT IS AN EMERGENCY AS LONG AS I PAY MY BILL. There should be a vital services bill of rights, and this basic understanding should be the first tenet of that bill of rights. The fact that there isn't such a law means our government is asleep at the wheel.
So, I wake up the next day, and I can't bathe my kids or my self because my hot water is gone, and this is on the day that I'm supposed to be the best man at my brother's wedding. So between all my other responsibilities to my family, I have to handle this disaster. Of course I didn't have the opportunity to schedule with these tyrants, because protecting their bottom line is more important to them than common decency. I certainly would have picked a better time (for me).
And this goes to the deeper heart of the problem, the fact that I, as a customer in a free market do not have a choice of my service provider. Based on this interaction I would switch to the competition, that's how upset I am, but Big Daddy Enbridge has a monopoly, and so, leveraging that monopoly, to increase their profits, they have made a decision to offload the work of meter exchanges to this trash company with no customer service experience or empathy toward people, yes, people who need hot showers and hot water to keep their family healthy. Instead of being able to take my business elsewhere, I am left being farmed off through this bureaucratic process or that, with no satisfaction that my problem will ever be addressed or taken seriously.
In my opinion, the public would be better served if Enbridge dropped the meters off at people's houses and let them hire the technicians they want to replace the meter. Then give a discount on my Gas, where the costs of this type of overhead is built in. This would also ensure that any minor issues with your homes equipment would be fixed at the same time.
The guy I finally got to come to my house (from another company, of course) to address the issues was a prince, he took the time to explain what he was planning to do and the implications of his actions to my family's health and well being. He did a quick and professional and high quality job in a manner that was respectful and courteous. He was all too ready to produce his credentials including proof of being licensed and insured.
This is the way a decent Canadian business behaves and any Canadian expects to be treated, and especially, as a homeowner, tax payer and paying customer I am disappointed and heartbroken that this scum is empowered to cause this disruption in our lives. I think as consumers we need to really reconsider this monopoly and its impacts on the quality of services we are receiving (which we are paying top dollar for).
If Lakeside Gas had to compete in the free market they would not survive in business for long, but thanks to the Corporatocracy and Monopoly of Enbridge, especially in the context of other, similar reviews and stories to mine regarding this company, unless there is some kind of systemic change, we'd better all just get used to bending over and taking it.
I mean who are we kidding, the same lack of respect and and lack of a sense of common dignity that I am complaining about is the source of the savings that Enbridge gets by outsourcing to an outside company, and of course Enbridge doesn't suffer reputational damage because they are shielded by this company of low skill, low intelligence people (based on my interactions). This is not a bug, it is a design feature designed to be at the customer's expense. read more
