Low Risk Pregnancy? Chemical or Fungal sensitivities? Looking for a place that will listen and not…read morejust ignore you about MTHFR? I transferred into Birthways at 32 weeks after my original OB would ignore me about my genetic condition and insisted that I take something that has been shown to activate immune issues in people with genetic dispositions...Birthways not only took me in but supported my decisions, researched for themselves what my condition was, and went far beyond and above what I expected after my experience with the OB. When going to Birthways, you will generally spend significantly less money on your birth (especially since you're not automatically going to a hospital for birth,) and you will get so many perks including an information book on prenatal and postnatal time frames AND information for the other parent and support team, group meetings to meet other mothers and talk about what worries you all have, and Child Birth Education Classes (something you have to pay for when with the hospital, usually.) There's a library you can borrow from that includes books AND dvd's, and generally, they're much more open than any facility I've ever been to (I arrived early one day without thinking about it. They weren't bothered by it in the least, and, in fact, invited me to stay if I wanted to instead of driving all the way back home.) There's also beach days! If you like going to the beach, you can have a day where you go to the beach with other pregnant mama's and get checked out (blood pressure, baby's heart rate, and fundus size) without being in the...it's actually a bedroom, not an exam room...So you feel right at home there, too. During the labor, the team was beyond supportive and helpful. Michaela, Lisa and Emily made sure I had everything I needed, and helped ensure that I didn't give up or give in. I highly recommend Birthways to everyone!

My overall experience at Birthways left me feeling neglected and abandoned in the process…read more This was my first pregnancy and prenatal care was okay. There really wasn't any education on the actual laboring process which left me pretty unprepared. leading up to my birth I started to feel anxious as I had connected with some midwife's and not others and when it's time for labor you get whatever random midwife is on call. A week before I was due they rushed for me to meet a midwife who was visiting town. Overall I had the feeling that they were very understaffed and had tons of clients. I had specifically asked the owner "what happens if you have to go to the hospital?" The answer was clear - we come with you to make sure your checked in but we don't stay the whole time , the student chimed in that she likes to stay for the whole birth because she gets invested in the moms. Well, the day that my water broke, the amniotic fluid had meconium. I called the midwife on-call who was the midwife I only met once previously. She told me the baby was in distress without any explanation or information and to go straight to the hospital, she would not come with me. There was some guidance on where to park and then that was it. I didn't hear from her again until a text 24 hours later asking how it was going. And then never heard from her again. Done. My labor was difficult at the hospital with nurses pushing all various medication, wanting to rush the process. It was the hospital nightmare that I was always avoiding. After pitocin was pushed on me I still labored for 30 hours, barely dodged a c section, my baby landed in niccu for 3 days, and I had been completely paralyzed in one leg and in a wheelchair from an epidural injury that took months before walking normally again, It was scary. I never heard from Birthways again until 3 weeks later they called telling me I should come in for my postpartum checkup. This was never communicated to me during the entire prenatal care that there would be postpartum check ups. I thought they had finished their services with me. I was desperate for an assessment of my situation and to check on my stitches(from tearing). They called to cancel the appointment I was needing, and luckily I got a spot because someone canceled. I arrived using a walker and couldn't even hold my baby. The woman who would've been my midwife was shocked and asked what happened to me. There was some sympathy but afterwards she never informed the owner of my situation nor did anyone ever bother to check about my hospital birth records. When I came in for the second check up weeks later, the owner was surprised to hear my birth story and injuries. There is an obvious lack of communication between everyone. Finally they emailed the hospital to get my birth report. Of course, you sign paperwork that you will never be able to get a refund even if you don't birth there and they do nothing, they will keep your money. During one of the most vulnerable processes of my life, I felt completely neglected by this business. And that's the vibe you get that it's a business, a place to make money. Choosing Birthways was a mistake and i'm not the only one traumatized by this, my mother was confused about what kind of care they were supposed to offer, and my husband felt like it was a waste of thousands of dollars, feeling that the service offered was nowhere near worth what we paid. While I was pregnant, I deposited $250 for nitrous. If you don't make an early deposit and decide that you underestimated and need nitrous while giving birth, the price jumps to $500. That just shows the intentions of Birthways and how it takes advantage. Because I never gave birth at Birthways or used nitrous I was expecting to have my money back. This was not an easy process, taking seven months before I finally saw it back and I had to call every couple weeks, text, email. The communication is totally off with this business as is their billing practices. In all, I would not recommend Birthways unless you know your going to have an easy birth that requires little attention and care. It may be the only center in town, but not the only option.

Sneaky and dishonest - Bills you and your insurance. If you're going to use her please be careful…read morewhen it comes to payment. We did not discuss payment which was my own fault, but this was a day where I was crying all day and not even 1 month postpartum - I was very vulnerable. Got in touch with Juana and scheduled a visit for that day which was nice, and she let me use her demo breast pump to see if it worked better (which was wonderful of her), had a follow up visit a week later, and then I got emails from my insurance saying claims were being processed. I took a look and there were 4 claims for 2 visits, 2 for me and 2 for my son - she never saw my son the second time but did weigh him and position him to latch correctly the first time. First visit for me: $965.00 First visit for my son: $660.00 Second visit for me: $675.00 Second visit for my son: $432.00 Total: $2,732.00Talked to her and told her I couldn't afford her services, she told me she isn't billing me that amount, the insurance company is, and that she is only $90.00 per hour. Spoke to my insurance company and they confirmed that she is billing them for that amount as they do not come up with the amount for the providers services. After going back and forth with the insurance company I didn't get anywhere, so I asked Juana for her billing departments number (on a Friday) to which I didn't receive a response - so I followed up the next day (Saturday) with no response. That Monday she texted me told me she would be stopping by to pick up her pump and to discuss payment and insurance but I was not in town. I asked her for billing departments number again and she gave it to me but they did not get back to me until Wednesday - unfortunately they were not helpful after looking at my EOB I was told that I wasn't responsible for the payments listed, even though it clearly states that I am responsible for these payments. She stopped by same day and gave me a bill for $150.00 and confirmed I do not owe what the insurance is stating I owe. I then told her I would pay her as soon as the claims fell off of my insurance. Friday, she showed up to my house unannounced - which worked my dogs up and woke up my son - to discuss payment but I was in a meeting (I work from home). I texted her to ask what it was regarding and she then stated at 11:54am "I don't understand if the Cigna rep was on the phone line with is and informed me that you needed to reach your deductible that is why they decline pay me. Why are you holding payment for services rendered when the insurance was never going to pay me in the first place. That's where I'm confused I just want an idea of what time to expect payment for services rendered." I responded at 12:03pm with "Please do not show up at my house unannounced. This is something we can discuss via telephone. You knowing up make my dogs freak out and woke up my son. I had to speak to my insurance so I could understand what is going on because I haven't been explained anything. I am confused how thousands of dollars billed to my insurance turned into $150.00 for me. Are you saying my insurance declined paying you the thousands, and that's when I received my new bill for $150.00?""Also, I haven't received your Venmo either. I would like to pay that way, if that is acceptable." From that point forward she kept trying to call me but I was unable to speak as I was tending to my child or in meetings for work. It seemed as though she didn't want anything in writing. Her billing department ended up calling me to explain that the thousands of dollars on my insurance somehow wasn't sormthing I owed even though insurance tells me that will be my payment to the provider. However my provider just billed me for $150... so I guess it's not what I owed her, just what she wanted through my insurance. My mother works in the health field and with insurance - I explained this situation to her and she also stated that this isn't the correct way to do things and she could get into major trouble. I just paid the $150.00 and called it a day. Women are extremely vulnerable in this state and I just don't want anybody else going through this. Moral of my very long review, just be careful if you use her and be smarter than me - discuss payment first.

Breastfeeding is already stressful as a first time mom but Juana has been there for me literally since day one when I met her in the hospital; she has helped me correct my inverted nipples, latch my baby, get rid of uncomfortable engourged breast and more! ANYTIME I have a question or problem she has been prompt and professional everytime! I would 100% recommend Juana as your lactation consultant
