We weren't prepared to go swimming but we still walked the beach and took some pictures. A lot of people were there to swim and it was pretty crowded. The air was chilly so I was surprised how many people were swimming but maybe the water was warm. I didn't notice lifeguards but there was a park ranger circulating. Plus bathrooms and changing rooms up top. At night they had a stargazing program here which we came back for which was ranger led and honestly one of my favorite memories of the trip.

Between the slimy fish and the huge uncooked potato they threw in, the dish was not even edible. It was the biggest joke I've ever been served in a restaurant. We went to Maine and spent a week in Northeast Harbor. We tried Sand Beach, inside Acadia National…read morePark, and it was beautiful, but the July parking situation was pretty miserable. We also tried Echo Lake, which was great. (We didn't try Lake Wood, the third swimming beach in Acadia National Park.) But the boy wanted to swim in the ocean, so we tried out Seal Harbor Beach, a place my wife remembered from when she lived in Southwest Harbor in the 1990s. Parking at Seal Harbor Beach was _easy_. There's a parking lot on the north side of Peabody Drive (which is the portion of Maine Highway 3 between Seal Harbor and Northeast Harbor), and Seal Harbor Beach just across the road. There's a crosswalk that seems pretty safe. The beach is mostly sand, with some pebbles. Stanley Brook runs through the middle of the beach; it was just a trickle in July 2025. (There's an interpretative sign overlooking the brook, next to the parking lot.) The boy had at least as much fun playing with the brook's running water as with the ocean. The beach has a wooden platform moored in the water. It was somewhat away from the shore when we arrived, but by the time we were getting ready to leave it was low tide (very low, near New Moon), and the platform was just a few steps from the shore. We had a National Park pass, but because Seal Harbor Beach is outside of Acadia National Park, we didn't need it. The view is picturesque; the harbor was full of sailboats, mostly moored, but some sailing around. This isn't a five-star "best ever" beach, but given the easy access, lighter crowds, and nice view, it's a four-star "Yay, I'm a fan".

I visited in Jan 2026 and no one but myself was there. Solitude, quiet, and beauty. Ahhhh. Some say the water crashing against the rocks sounds like singing. It is a very soothing and welcoming sound which I do not think I would ever tire of. It was difficult in some spots to walk as the rocks can be a foot or more deep, but with my snow boots on it was manageable. I am not sure how it would be barefoot or with sandals, but I would certainly give it a go. No restrooms or other amenities. A wonderful Maine spot with amazing scenery and beauty.

If you're looking for a secluded, expansive rocky beach off the beaten path, Jasper Beach is your…read morenew best friend! You can expect two tiers of smooth, beach rock adorned with seaweed/kelp. Outside of the traditional basalt, granite, etc. that New England beaches tend to provide, Jasper also offers sea snail and crab shells, drift wood, and the occasional beach glass/pottery. After the overcrowded Sandy Beach (south of Bar Harbor in Acadia N.P.), Jasper was a welcome calm and solitude. I would have stayed for more than two hours, however, the only drawback--for anyone, frankly--is the lack of facilities. No fresh water or bathroom within :15 to :20. If you or your family can handle that, Jasper Beach is definitely worth a visit!

Lots of the beach is somewhat rocky so bring water shoes. The good part is that this place isn't overrun by tourists... It's fairly calm and doesn't have a ton of stores or attractions....

Picture this: you're strolling along a pebbly beach tucked away along the most quintessential Maine…read morerocky coast scene in the world during almost-dusk without a care in the world. It's like something out of Downeast Magazine, but really it's the vibe at Birch Point State Park during the off-season (which is open all year round, and as a Mainer you should really, really check out... I mean, is there anything quite as romantic as the ocean during winter?). I came in autumn and parked along the street outside of the entrance, walked the half mile down the access road, and was greeted by a crescent shaped beach bookended by giant rocks/ledges and small green spaces with picnic tables. I know there's a fee during the height of the season, but there's something really special about being able to enjoy this kind of unadulterated nature sans people in the chilly weather - so bring a sweater, a flask, a book... I'm confused though - there was a handwritten note defacing a park sign at the entrance that said, "Screw you State of Maine for closing this park." I don't know what's going on with that, but I hope it's not the truth because this is gem of spot. It seemed closed only for the season when I came, though that didn't stop locals from walking their dogs here.

Such a relaxing place that you don't even read your book much- just watch the water…read more A Sunday in mid-July was not crowded when we arrived at 1030 but by the time we left at 1, parking was rare and most people were parked on the long gravel drive into the park. The beach is a typical Maine one with dark, packed Sand and lots of seaweed. There's a lot of bugs in the seaweed that will go everywhere if you try to move it. Rocks are on either side of the beach and can make a less comfortable but quieter site. I was disappointed to see a giant pile of poo when we walked in. I think it was from a dog. Please, please clean up after your dog or leave them at home. This is a state park for all of us to enjoy. The water is frigid cold but we saw quite a few swimmers today. There are some grill to the left as you walk in that are shaded. Dogs must be on a leash.
