We've picked up at Bodhi Coffee on Headhouse as well as Sweet Freedom Bakery during two separate seasons. What we've loved: wonderful organic produce, on-time delivery with flexible pick-up (Sweet Freedom would hold our box until the next day when we needed), wonderful newletters with pictures and recipes, and a knowledgeable response to customer inquiries. Also, we really enjoyed the dried goods that came in our box sometimes: popcorn, cornbread mix, and a dried tomato thing that rehydrated into a delicious pesto. What could be better: More variety. We got so many potatoes and sweet potatoes that we had to constantly give half away. We got lettuce (a head or two) every week, so I had to get really creative with recipes (btw, Lettuce Soup is delicious!). However, the website says that the Crawford family would like to continue adding more crops, so I suspect that this will improve as they diversify the farm. Fewer Herbs. The herbs were a nice touch, but the portions were too large. I really struggled to use as much cilantro as was given to us, even though I put it in everything AND froze some. Same for other herbs - plenty to use, to freeze, or to dry, but really could be smaller bunches in order to be enjoyed fresh. Discount for Returners. We missed the Early Bird discount because we thought we were moving and hence couldn't renew right away. It would have been nice to get a "second season" discount as a gesture for loyalty. I would (and have!) recommend this CSA to anyone looking for organic, affordable produce in Philly. If you haven't ever tried a CSA before, you can confidently try this one!

We came here without any farmers market food vouchers. I ponder with hope and wonder if Cherry Hill offers apple picking, pumpkin U-Pick or strawberry picking like NYS Hudson Valley. There are no photo stand-in, face-in-hole board, or peep board for families to participate making memories. Customer service is average. I did obtain my sales receipt. At the cash wrap counter Cherry Hill Orchards carries a "Help to Eliminate Spoilage" card to maintain fruit freshness. Blueberries, one pint $4.99 Fresh and plump to sustain for 1.5 day with refrigeration. Chocolate cherry cordials $0.75 each X 2 = $1.50 One milk chocolate and one dark chocolate which were average. I immediately engulfed these chocolates upon entering the car. Maple syrup, 8 oz. jug $10.99 Maple syrup price has risen exorbitant outrageously high in the past decade that $10.99 has almost become the standard lowest price. I have seen sales of $7.99 for 12 oz. glass bottles - once in a blue moon. I have a predilection for maple syrup specifically Canadian maple syrup. Yum! I did not know that Lancaster, PA offers maple sugaring season. Amish Country in Pennsylvania has certainly more presence and impact for farming agricultural lifestyle in Lancaster, PA. Lancaster, PA once served as the capital of Pennsylvania from 1799 to 1812. Secretly, as my desideratum I wanted the 12 oz. maple syrup jug size, but I do not have the space in my duffle travel bag for the long-haul car ride return to NYC!

We've enjoyed picking our own peas, flowers, and berries so far this season. Our two children have enjoyed being able to pick produce right from the field and the ability to learn about the creatures that live in the fields as well. The produce selection is unparalleled to any place in the area. We bought bags and bags of produce and made a caprese salad with orange and red tomatoes and basil from the farm. We grilled the veggies and had blueberry shortcake for dessert. They have shortcake and pie crusts next to the fruit - so smart!! Additionally they have homemade pretzels, pasta, pie crust, shortcake, dishcloths, pot holders, candles etc. They also sell plants - ferns, flowers, succulents etc. In the fall they will sell pumpkins and many varieties of apples. Everyone that works there is so kind and helpful. The prices are fantastic. Great selection, superb service and a fun place to visit. It's beautiful and quiet. Tom Culton was a delightful and quirky host, and the event was very well run (obviously not just due to the host, but also the Outstanding in the Field group that puts these dinners on at farms all over the country, as well as Chef Nick). The veritable cherry on top of their cornucopia of fruits, vegetables, jarred foods, baked goodies, pretzels, popcorn, candies, and frozen foods is their Whoopie Pie Festival, which we attended today. The Festival runs on Feb. 26-28 & March 5-7 between 9am - 4pm. Essentially, you can create Your Own Whoopie Pie for $4 each, 4 or more at $3.50 each, and 12 or more $3 each. Here's how it works - make your customized selections of one of 12 cookies, one of 11 frostings, and one of 7 toppings, and Brecknock will build your pie. I went full Elvis mode and selected banana cookies, peanut butter frosting, and chocolate chip toppings around the circumference. We had a great time at Brecknock -making our Whoopie pies, playing a whoopie pie trivia game, and picking up a few odds and ends for us and friends. PRO TIP Hats off to Brecknock for their generosity and hospitality. They had free samples everywhere- whoopie pie wedges, pretzels, popcorn, and all sorts of goodies. It worked on us, because after sampling some honey mustard pretzels, we couldn't grab a bag fast enough.

Our younger daughter wanted to try a few raspberries before deciding whether she liked them. We made an honest mistake and understood when we were told that this was not allowed. We apologized and offered to pay for the raspberries, and we even paid an extra $4 for the couple she had tried. What bothered us was how the situation was handled. A woman came out from the house and spoke to us in a condescending manner, even asking whether we would eat food from a grocery store before paying for it. We apologized and agreed to pay, but the situation continued even after we had left the fields. The woman called the checkout desk about us as we were making our way to pay. We were happy to acknowledge our mistake and pay for what was taken. We simply expected the situation to be handled with a little more courtesy and understanding, especially since we immediately offered to make it right, and have been repeat customers. The farm itself is a nice setting, but based on our experience, the customer service left a lot to be desired. If you're trying to teach your kids what good customer service looks like, this probably isn't the place to do it.
