Beautiful botanical garden with quite a few buildings. Really peaceful, I'd go there with a family and kids to hang if I had any.

Bibliotekshaven - Garden of the Royal Library

I don't think we would have discovered it on our own. It's like one big courtyard garden that's located on the Castle Island between Christiansborg Palace and the historic Royal Danish Library. The Black Diamond (the modern extension of the library) building that you see from the harbor kind of obscures it all. It's feels like an oasis when first encountering it. That feeling multiplies when you see the koi fish swimming around the pond, and the water flowing from an impressive 26-foot-tall bronze sculpture. The architecture of the historic Library building in the background truly adds to the scenery. The fragrances coming from the flowers in this garden are amazing. I think it was the scent of the wisteria and flowering crab apple blossoms that stood out to me the most. It's all beautifully landscaped and manicured with colorful blooms. It was such a quiet and relaxing visit. I'd return again and again if I lived in this area. Don't miss this experience when passing through the grounds of Christiansborg Palace.

My first visit to this "garden" was back in 2013 or 2014 during the Copenhagen Cooking festival. At that time this park was full of small stands serving all sorts of food and drinks from smoked cheese, shrimps, ice cream and other food to beers from small home breweries and Danish snaps. Overall it is a beautiful little park with a fountain in the middle, a lot of benches all around, very quite and secluded. Great place to relax.

I visited 3 times during my stay in Lund just to make sure I saw all there was to see. I'm really glad I took so much time out to do so, especially given the greenhouse (Växthus) is open limited hours during the week. The Lund Botanical Gardens are FREE to the public too, which really can't be beat. A nearly straight shot east from the Cathedral, it's not to be missed if you're visiting the medieval city of Lund. My dear friend, who graciously offered me room and board during my stay in Sweden, attended Lund University, and shared with me that the greenhouse located at the heart of the gardens is home to tiny ground-dwelling king quail (they reminded me of itty bitty kiwis, see my pictures!), the smallest landfowl in the world, that help with pest control. If I hadn't known about this, I wouldn't have waited patiently and quietly in a serene corner of the Växthus for the little cuties to emerge and begin their important work in the greenhouses. There is so much to see inside the greenhouses, beyond adorable useful birdies! I saw plant fossils! And exotic Amazon lily pads! Australian trees! So many beautiful plants I may never ever see again in my lifetime! So, I definitely recommend a visit to the greenhouses, but also a determined stroll among the grounds. Take your time! One visitor I noticed had brought her cat with her in a discrete basket. (Again, proof is in my photos!) That's my kind of woman. I was especially pleased to see so many tulips in bloom. I know, so basic. Hours upon hours can be spent here, and spend them I did. There is a small cafe and restrooms located in the same area as the greenhouses, in case you are in need. Be aware that the gardens are a solid amount of walking for your day, but for me the time passed without much notice at all. With all the incredible sights to see in Lund, this was one of the best parts of my trip! It's not to be passed up if you're in the area. And after all, in comparison to my visit to Copenhagen's botanical gardens on the same trip, you can't beat free!

The biggest draw here is the glasshouse area and the nearby pond. The pond is filled with flowering lilies, and the ducks here are friendly and plentiful. The glasshouse area is surprisingly extensive, and a few rooms have what appear to be tiny quails (I even saw babies!) walking around freely and cooing/squeaking in a delightful way. Walking through the glasshouse gave me a sense of childhood wonder in places. And it's all free! Not free, but also lovely, is the cafe. I got a salad here (included free, fresh bread) that was tasty and very affordable. I ate outside by the pond, at the tables/benches. I'd plan an hour, if not more, for the glasshouse and pond.
