Loved it…read morevery much and the hospitality from the staff here was truly reflective of the Bavarian "gastgeber" attitude, friendly, welcoming and going out of their way to look after you. The room we had was fabulous albeit slightly dated and missing the luxury I would expect in a hotel at this price like bathrobes, plush towels and good toiletries. But everything else was on the money. Breakfast was very nice and extensive, dinner here was excellent and I loved my cappuccino soup and apple crumble. Good wine list and super friendly service. Dogs are allowed here for an extra charge and they had a nice bowl and bed waiting for our dog when we arrived with food and so on. The hotel is on a hiking trail so you can literally step out and go walking into the mountains. The views from up here is fantastic and it's very quiet during the night. All in all a fabulous experience we would happily repeat again.

First, the little village of Ettal is a rare find. You can stay in Garmisch or Oberammergau and have immediate access to more restaurant and bar options. What you'd miss is the charm, the incredible scenery, and the true Bavarian village feel you get from staying in Ettal. Wolfgang & Martina are your hosts and they have created a peaceful, relaxing, and well appointed home-away-from-home for you to enjoy. We booked the day of our arrival and communicated easily with Wolfgang via the Booking.com site & email. Your chalet is a three level log cabin situated roughly 100' above the town and pastureland below. The views from balconies on all three levels is right out of a painting--lush, verdant pastures; tree covered mountains (with just a hint of color in early fall); ribbon waterfalls flowing down the mountainside; a 14th century abbey just to your left; the peaceful little village below. Inside, you'll find Wolfgang & Martina covered every little detail. The main level is spacious and inviting with a well appointed kitchen perfect for making breakfast (we chose to get delicious sandwiches at the bakery Wolfgang recommended, though), and dining table that will seat eight, and a half bath with a washer (great for families). Off the main level is a full sized porch so you can take in the sights of Ettal. The two bedrooms are downstairs and each features a queen sized bed with duvet covers and two wardrobes for hanging/storing garments. The main bedroom features an in-room sink and claw foot bathtub with hand shower. The bathrooms share a full bath in the hallway with a nice waterfall shower. Upstairs is a tv area & a relaxing massage chair. I could write more, but running out of space. Stay in Ettal with Wolf & Martina, you'll be glad you did.

The restaurant's menu is very acceptable to American tastes and the beer is Bavarian. The rooms are smaller that American hotels but well appointed and comfortable nonetheless. Well located for access to many of Bavaria's best known, visited sites: Neuschwannstein, the Zugspitze, Garmisch, And Munich as well as easy day trips to Innsbruck, Berchtesgaden and Salzburg.

We arrived late in the evening but were warmly greeted by Otto himself who regaled us with his perfect English and amazing personality. The hotel is classic Bavarian style and was quiet, clean, and located just a stone's throw from all the shops in Oberammergau. Breakfast is included in the reservation and the breakfast room was beautifully decorated and there were many delectable items to choose from. There is a separate refrigerator for drinks that works on the honor system with a deposit box. Our room was very comfortable, albeit a bit tight, although I found that it added to the charm. Arriving at night we weren't sure what our view would be, though Otto assured us that it was good. Well, the next morning we looked out the window at it wasn't good at all. It was fantastic! Seeing the sun rise over the beautiful Alps was perfect and I could have sat on our balcony for hours admiring it. Back to the room. The bed was very comfortable and there were extra pillows hidden inside a headboard compartment that was very neat. And it was quiet. Very quiet. Which was great to come back to after a long day of sightseeing. I would absolutely come back to Otto's place and can provide my highest recommendation. Ask for room 10...the view is amazing.

The Hotel Shmied Von Kochel is located close to the centre of Kochel, and just a very short walk…read morefrom the train station, which is exceptionally useful, given that there are no taxis in Kochel. The hotel dates from around the 1700s, though renovations have been completed as well as some new additions, and so the place feels as though it is from the 1980s. There is an eclectic decor to the place. My room had a fairly nice view of the mountains but the room itself was very sparse. I felt it could have done with some imagination with regards to decoration, which was basically just a white wall. The bed was comfortable enough -- fairly standard. Breakfast was advertised as a feast, but was more of a boiled egg and some cold cuts and bread affair. The lady who perhaps owns the hotel works very hard though I think they could so with some extra staff to keep the place running more smoothly. I enjoyed a few meals in the restaurant attached to the hotel, but the service was very slow. In all a good stay and worth it for the price, but I would also recommend seeing what other options are available.

It was so amazing, beautiful, wonderfully located, and the staff were so kind and accommodating to English-speaking tourists. All throughout the hotel they have old canvas pictures of the original building which used to be a farmhouse, such a lovely vintage feel! It's a 12 minute walk from the train which was super helpful to go into Munich. There is so much amazing food within walking distance of the hotel. The rooms were absolutely lovely with a private terrace. and the free breakfast provided was unbelievably delicious! If you stay here, you must spend time in the Biergarten in the back of the property. It was definitely one of my favorite parts of staying here, it is a beautiful morning when you can sit out there with some coffee and listen to the church bells ring. Cannot wait to come back. English was not spoken here but we communicated well enough. We had a delicious meal of pork schnitzel and Serviettenknödel (dumplings). The food was excellent and daily dessert was amazing .

This is a small hotel in the middle of the city and it was very comfortable and the staff was very attentive. Our rooms were different some had tubs ours had a walk in shower. Breakfast was very good each morning and we really did enjoy our stay here! Will definitely be back!!!!
