The Hotel Shmied Von Kochel is located close to the centre of Kochel, and just a very short walk from the train station, which is exceptionally useful, given that there are no taxis in Kochel. The hotel dates from around the 1700s, though renovations have been completed as well as some new additions, and so the place feels as though it is from the 1980s. There is an eclectic decor to the place. My room had a fairly nice view of the mountains but the room itself was very sparse. I felt it could have done with some imagination with regards to decoration, which was basically just a white wall. The bed was comfortable enough -- fairly standard. Breakfast was advertised as a feast, but was more of a boiled egg and some cold cuts and bread affair. The lady who perhaps owns the hotel works very hard though I think they could so with some extra staff to keep the place running more smoothly. I enjoyed a few meals in the restaurant attached to the hotel, but the service was very slow. In all a good stay and worth it for the price, but I would also recommend seeing what other options are available. read more
