I love movies! I love the movie theatre. and yet, when I walk into the cineplex theatre in Kelowna,…read moreI feel off. It isn't always clear why.. maybe it's the excessive lines, never getting a "good" seat, the staff acting like they are doing me a favour by being there, seeing the "acting manager" on her phone all the time, or having to deal with people who are regularly on their phones while the movie is playing. Point is.. going to this theatre is a gong show. And after having excessive salt.. I can't handle to extreme salt on the popcorn. it just doesn't work for me any longer. And do you think I could get them for to make a lower salt version? There's no way. I get a flippant response that denies any possible way of them altering their popcorn regime. So what do all those people who have high blood pressure or a negative reaction to high sodium do.. I guess they are just hooped. Because the very young manager on her phone cannot consider an alternative way to make popcorn any other way than what she was taught. Now a quick look up on the internet says that Cineplex can make popcorn without salt and that's great, but how can I get that at the Kelowna Cineplex movie theatre?

Ok, sure, it's not a super fancy place and it could do with some renos. That being said, it's also…read morea barrel of fun, they still have a huge screen, and it's usually not that busy. We booted it over here with minutes to spare before the movie started, anticipating barely having time to grab popcorn or find seats together. Well, we shouldn't have worried! There was no line for snacks, and the theatre wasn't super full at all. I know that's not great for business for them, but it worked well for us. The seats are comfortable enough, and they have all the regular amenities of a cinema. I don't really have anything bad to say about them, for an older venue it's pretty well maintained, and they even have 3D! Part of my enjoyment is undoubtedly because of the movie itself (omg Mad Max: Fury Road) but the cinema itself didn't deaden the experience at all. Not necessarily my absolute favourite cinema in town, but I liked it well enough!

It seems like it should be far away from a city, but it is an interesting juxtaposition. There are a couple entrances and it's easy to spot from the street if you look closely. There is a traditional Japanese gate that opens up into a beautiful area of trees, flowers and water features. On the right side of the entrance is a rock garden in which the gravel is swept in a specific pattern. I liked walking around and looking at all the interesting trees and shrubs. There is a small waterfall in the corner and a large koi pond in the middle. There is a cute bridge that crosses the pond and it's a nice place to take pictures. In the spring/summer the flowers are blooming. There were a couple of beautiful pink peonies and a few water lilies in bloom. There was also a small tree that backdropped a bench with flowers that were very fragrant. A bunch of rowdy kids were jumping along the rocks and throwing leaves in the pond as their mother watched. I guess they didn't read the sign outside about etiquette. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed myself and would recommend it to others.
