At Lantana, you will find an awesome Aussie style brunch and I say this as an Aussie. Their brunch items are veggie-forward, filling and well-thought out. The weekday breakfast menu featured some pretty creative and unique savory brunch items. My friend and I shared the corn fritters and pulled pork drowned eggs. My favorite of the two was the corn fritters. It came with streaky bacon, fresh spinach, roasted tomatoes, smashed avocado and lemon creme fraiche. The entire dish was very well executed - all the ingredients went well together and it was bursting with flavors. The pulled pork drowned eggs were pretty awesome too. We asked to substitute the fried eggs for scrambled eggs, but it came with sourdough, spicy tomato sauce and parmesan. This was quite interesting as I've never had anything like it before. The pulled pork was tender and flavorful. The eggs were fluffy and the spicy tomato sauce added so much depth to the dish. Overall, Lantana serves some pretty delicious and filling brunch here. Seriously everything is bloody great. Our party of five had most of the dishes on the menu- from the smashed avo to the sweet potato hash to the corn fritters and the mushroom toast. Also the kale bread. So many great savoury flavours and excellent portion sizes for the admittingly a bit expensive prices. Also my husband loved the coffee. The desserts were also top-notch: the salted caramel bar and the banana walnut cake earned praise for their rich textures and tastes. The only niggling factor? All the dishes were quite salty so I definitely felt as if I would have a heart attack by the end. Also the service wasn't great; out waitress was very nice but the amount of people she had to serve meant she went missing when we needed more table water, extra plates etc. Overall though I would definitely return for how creative the dishes were. A super-duper solid 4-stars for Salvation Jane...! Salvation from...? City Road? Chilly January weather? Low caffeine threshold? Starbucks coffee? Mediocre breakfast options? Take your pick, Jane saved me from all of these things. While it may look quite small from its address on City Road, it's rolls into a back area with very ample, quite comfortable, seating. Rows of communal tables and quiet corners to conversate and dine --- you'll find right here. The space is new and shiny (housed in a newer building) with very clean restrooms, a smiling staff, and nice offerings. However, a bit pricey. A breakfast for 3 (each with a main and a beverage) ran close to 50 quid. Not that the quality didn't match the price tag, but just watch out as you peruse. The Smoked Haddock Hashcakes + fresh spinach and poached eggs were quite lovely, very obviously prepared this morning, and hit the spot. Not too big. Not too small, the right temperature and consistency for hashcakes, and the eggs...perfect. My dining companion's Cinnamon French Toast with cream and berries though? WOW. Looked absolutely amazing and she concurred. As I mentioned, the service is good. Very good for London. Only misstep? Those half-eaten hashcakes hung out in front of me FAR past when I had decided that we should separate. Enjoying Americano #2 without the lingering smell of fish would've been highly preferable. However, only misstep on the service side. It also seems very...BRIGHT in here. Some better light might set the ambience up a bit better. There also seemed to be quite a few interviews being conducted, just a funny observation more than anything else. :) Go get those jobs, people! Jane will save you! I have a very special bonding with Salvation Jane, why? Well I had my job interview here and guess what I actually got the job! I think one of the stars is probably because of that! But the rest 4 they deserve every bit of it! I am very bored of all the Starbucks and Costa's so every time somebody introduces me to a new cafe I get extremely excited. Salvation Jane is also such a pretty name, being a marketing person names of restaurants gets me very excited to a point that sometimes I might like a place purely because of its name (ok that is probably an exaggeration). For all you nasty smokes (I am included) they have a smoking shed outside which is such a saving grace during winters because you don't have to freeze to death to have a smoke. The tea pots they have are very pretty and blue, I have a lovely photograph of that too because the day I visited I happened to wear nail paint of the exact same shade of blue! The breakfast menu looks absolutely stunning and the options are just so confusing (in a good way) because there is so much to chose from. I had a Cinnamon Toast with cream and berries -- wooohhh delicious will be an understatement. I will have to mention that it is not exactly a cheap breakfast or budget meal place so I think you should save this place for special occasions if you are not loaded like me. While I'd wholehearted recommend this for a lazy weekend breakfast, it's not a place that I'd frequently come for coworking, despite the fast, free wifi and quality caffeine. If you just want a nice wine bar to have a drink after work where you can hear yourself and have a nice chat without loud music blaring away, this is the place. Had a most enjoyable evening at this very casual, easy ambience, welcoming place, where you are served by the owner himself. My friend and I wanted somewhere for a drink and a catch up chat for an hour or so, so stumbled here, just off the Old Street roundabout, as somewhere close to where we worked in the City, so alas City prices, £27 for two glasses of wine and a small mezze board including service charge, but you do get decent quality food and drinks, especially the wine, the owner, George, actually let us have a tasting of the wines before ordering which was a really nice touch. They have a really nice summer nights menu serving Mediterranean cuisine. We chose the Mezze board to go with our rosé which included grilled chirozo, green olives, hummus, dukkha, cornichons and toasted sourdough. Not a large board, almost a taster size, but we were not looking to dine, so suited us for something to snack at while drinking our wine. Great atmosphere at the front of the cafe, nice rustic feel with wooden tables, and a full wine rack up one wall, makes a nice decor. To my surprise when I went to check-in, it said it was closed at 6pm. But apparently, they have started to stay open until 10pm a few months ago, so that needs updating, as if I was checking my Yelp app, I would have missed such a great place as it said it was closed! read more

Incredibly yummy Australian Brunch place. I shared a few items with my friend and we got the Lantana Blend Double Espresso shot with ice cream & toffee sauce! This was very rich so make sure you have lots of water, BUT incredibly delicious if you love coffee! We also got the avocado toast with HALLOUMI!! It came with a poached egg, labneh, hazelnut & pistachio dukkah, courgette & herbs on sourdough! This was really tasty and zesty. Not too overbearing with the tang, and was made just right! There's been a growth of new restaurants appearing in Old Street and some quite attracting too. Salvation Jane were one of the first ones to open that got me excited to try out being a sister of Lantana, a popular brunch place and Salvation of Jane was no different. I really thought I was in for a let down when I saw they had removed the Spanish Style Baked Eggs off the menu as it was the dish I wanted. My heart sank when I couldn't find it. But I'm pretty glad in the end as it got me trying new brunch dishes I wouldn't usually have ordered if I saw baked eggs. So in the end I settled for my corn fritters stacked w/ streaky bacon, fresh spinach and slow roast tomatoes served w/ avocado chilli lime salsa and crème fraiche whilst my boyfriend went for the toasted sourdough, organic streaky bacon, a fried egg, rocket, fresh tomato and aioli. We also added a side of a halloumi. Both dishes were delicious although I only got to have a bite out of the boyfriend's one so will not review his. There was so much going on that it was hard to believe how wholesome it actually was. The combination of ingredients used was faultless. The beautifully grilled corn fritters had a lovely seasoning, slightly spiced and each bite had soft little burst of sweetness coming through with the corn. Lovely fresh crunches from the spinach and the perfectly salted lightly crisp bacon giving me that 'Saturday treat yourself' feel. The perfect sunny side up, avocado and creme friache wrapped things up nicely, adding that buttery creamy texture to each mouthful. The halloumi came nice and chunky and no complaints there. The whole dish was just made with simple ingredients but put together it tasted amazing. I finished with my Chai Latte which was probably one of the best I've had as you could actually taste the tea. It was creamy with distinctive notes of ginger which was really warming. Together with the fresh looking wooden decor, natural lighting shining through, homely furniture with a mini bookshelf containing fun little books for a quick read and a self serving condiment shelf, my brunch experience became the perfect start to my weekend. It's the place I would choose to go for relaxation, a feel of home but being served by lovely waiting staff, all very welcoming too. Really highly recommend this place. read more

I can't say that I'm jealous of those who live around Old Street. I mean, choosing between Ozone, Franze & Evans, Breakfast Club, Curious Yellow Kafe, and many others for your weekend brunch is as hard as first world problems come. Salvation Jane is another Antipodean outfit, pretty much right next door to Ozone (which in itself is pretty new) and is definitely vying for my place-of-choice. However, if you walk into one or the other, it's a bit difficult to tell which is which as they both have that gutted warehouse look that seems to be all the rage these days. There are many things about this place which make me happy - the ceiling-high windows overlooking the back courtyard, the cool wall decorations, and, when I went in last time, having Dangermouse/MF Doom's "The Mouse and the Mask" album playing in the background. Definitely the second best cafe/restaurant music I've heard in London. The coffee here is good - I certainly prefer it to Allpress. But the real winner here was the breakfast - I don't understand how a BERT (bacon, egg, rocket, tomato) sandwich could be so pretty (also, SJ scores major bonus points by sourcing their bacon and sausage from my favourite London butcher, HG Walter). There are a select few places in the world which serve breakfasts that make me feel like a champion, but London has its very own here, and for that, I am very thankful. Of course, I'd be more thankful if Salvation Jane went all Salvation Army and decided to do it for free, but I suppose that's something I can overlook. read more

Lantana looks the part of relaxed Aussie brunch place all right. A warm, yet modern space divided into different themes. Predominantly young arty professional customers. Coffee listed on a blackboard. The (Allpress) coffee was good. We were about to hit up the London Coffee Festival so opted for a decaf. It was solid. The food however was disappointing. I had a rather messy mix of fried egg, meat and potato. It was okay, but not particularly flavoursome. My girlfriend's corn fritters however were outright tasteless. Seriously. Seriously weird. It was like they'd ruthlessly hunted down the cheapest ingredients, thrown them together and hoped no-one would complain amid the trendy surroundings. The manager saved the situation somewhat though by asking how our food was and immediately removing the fritters from the bill when we shared our feelings on it. We all had a fresh juice and I had the duck hash, whilst my friends had the smash avo and the Bircher. All of our meals were a really good size and very flavoursome. Spacious and calm decor is a plus, but the slow, haphazard service and slightly disappointing food don't really make up for it. I arrived at 11:35 and was told brunch had finished and they'd start serving lunch at noon. Fine. At 11:55 we asked if could order and they said "the kitchen doesn't open until 12". A full 15 minutes later they still hadn't returned to take our order. I had the corn fritter stack with spinach, bacon and avocado salsa. The fritters had a spicy kick to accompany the otherwise bland taste. The avocado salsa was mostly onion. My friend had tart and salad which was mostly fine apart from the fact her "chickpea and butternut squash salad" had a single piece of butternut squash. Afterward, we had to ask 2 times for the bill and 3 times for a takeaway container. I don't know if we were just unlucky, but I probably won't return. My local brunchery. I crawl out of bed, poke the boyfriend till he gets up and we head to ' Jane's. It's all hardwood floor, white walls and yuppy dishes on the menu. Kiwi baristas shout hello when you walk in and it's all very relaxed and Sunday-fabulous. The BERT (bacon sandwich) is the business, with crispy gorgeous bacon and a poached egg to run down the side. This is a hangover breakfast heaven. I went here for brunch today with some friends after a particularly heavy night on the crème de menthe. The cafe is pretty minimalist; big wooden tables, murals of Australian flora and fauna with the occasional bird thrown in there for good measure. The menu is really good - there's a lot of variation on it, but it's not one of those menus that has so much on it that you feel like you're reading a dissertation instead of a list of food options. The food was DELICIOUS. It's pretty unusual, but divine nonetheless. I had wheat-free toast with smashed avocado, bacon and poached eggs, while another friend opted for some corn fritters with bacon, and another had some concoction of ham hock and chorizo. Everyone agreed that the food was brilliant, and at under £10 for generous portions, I'll definitely be visiting again. The only downside was that the service was pretty slow - we had to wait about 15 minutes to finally get the bill. I ordered a bacon breakfast sandwich from Salvation Jane's only to be told I couldn't eat it at their eat in counter because I had a cup of coffee from a place across the street. While I understand that bringing in a branded cup from another competitor (Caffe Nero) is not ideal, their request that I couldn't eat in their restaurant a food item I purchased there felt very uncomfortable and frankly embarrassing. I wasn't offered a common sense alternative (purchase a coffee there, put the coffee in a different cup, etc) that doesn't create an embarrassing situation for the customer. I had no intention to start a branding war...honestly. I just wanted to eat my sandwich there instead of outside alone in the cemetery across the street (which I did in the end and actually fascinating to do among tombs from the 18th century). Under different circumstances, I would have loved to experience Jane's for what it is and not through this senseless act. As for the sandwich, I still ordered it took it to go. Visited this place for brunch recently to catch up with a friend from university. They had discovered this place through a friend. The coffee was excellent although not amazingly great that you would shout out about it from the roof tops. I had a slated beef hash with relish and salad. Liking the adventure of trying something new when I can I can say I was quite pleased with the choice. Like the name suggests a standard hash brown with salted beef added to the mix, yum is the best way to describe it. Again this was one to those cafés which had a long table in the centre of the dining area which many parties could sit around without being in each other's breakfast. Having queued up for brunch at Lantana once and found it super meh, I was a bit hesitant about trying Salvation Jane. Nonetheless, I'm only based near moorgate for a few more weeks so I figured I should give it a go. The entrance is kind of dark and I somehow expected a smaller, darker space inside. Instead, it's fairly large and reasonably bright (or at least 'normal') Lots of wooden chairs and tables. For the food, my friend and I shared the corn fritters and the French toast. I recently tried the food for the first time and went for the pork burger with kimchi. It was very tasty, although a little on the pricey side. I'm a big fan of Lantana, based near Goodge Street and my work - though a bit pricey for a brunch (8-12 quid) - it's never a disappointment. A great place for lunch in Shoreditch! I guess this place is also related to the popular Lantana in Fritzovia, but after my experience today, I definitely prefer Salvation Jane. I got the aubergine and mozzarella tart and sweet potato soup-both of which were their specials of the day. Both dishes were really delicious and it only came out to 10 pounds, so definitely keep your eye out for their specials board. Staff was also really friendly and helpful; our server was willing to answer all of our questions about the menu and he even put up when we were taking forever with splitting the bill. He also gave us free extra pieces of bread and a refill on our tea when we asked! The lunch rush is pretty crazy, but getting a table wasn't too bad on a Wednesday afternoon; if you prefer quiet places, it usually clears out by 2pm so this place is the place for you, too. read more

So, very glad to see this place open which correct me if I'm wrong is Lantana II with a whole heap more space. I was in for breakfast and it was pretty much empty as it had only been open a week food was good, coffee was superb and the cheery waitress from Melbourne was a very sunny start to a grey, rainy day. A great find! A group of us went yesterday - chosen by a member of the group who has coeliac disease and needed somewhere which had gluten free options for brunch. She had gluten free bread, scrambled egg and bacon - really nice to go somewhere where she is not jealous of everyone else eating their lovely gluten-filled brunch! Great space and excellent menu but when two of the 8 mains listed (which happened to be my top choices) aren't available and the reservation you meticulously made with a note that there would be multiple prams is staunchly ignored/denied, leaving four mums and fussy newborns standing around, it puts a bit of a damper on the whole meal. Came here during Monday lunchtime - definitely recommend their lunch menu. I ordered the crispy skin chicken with spiced lentil, yogurt, and caramelised onion for 10 pounds. The portion wasn't huge but the taste was definitely amazing - surprising because I've never really been a fan of lentil to start with. There's also a variety of drink selections and desserts.
