I have lived in many other cities of Los Angeles County, many serviced by LASD and I have not had the issues that I have with them. I have a tenant who lives right next door to me and is under eviction. One Sunday, that tenant threatened my life. I left my house with only my phone, did not take my purse or anything else because there was no time. I called the East LA Sheriff Department and waited for them at a nearby McDonald's. I waited 2 hours in the parking lot. I could not even go into the restaurant because I did not have my wallet and had no money. Whenever I would call to follow up they told me that deputies were busy with other calls. And finally, the last time I called they told me that the deputies showed up at McDonalds and left because I was not there. I was livid! After waiting for 2 hours in a hot parking lot with no water or anything the deputies lied and said they showed up! They never showed up. When I asked the dispatch person why they did not call me, she said they did. I asked her to give me the number that they called, and she gave me some wrong number that was not even mine! I refused to go home. I spent a total of 6 hours outdoors. I went to City Terrace Park and I called East LA Sheriff's again and Deputy Quinonez basically told me that I was not a priority since I was not physically hurt. So, I need to be stabbed by my tenant before I am considered a priority?! I have talked to Deputty Quinonez on other occasions and he is always a smart a$$. On another occasion I called 911 because a person who had previously attempted to unalive themselves was saying that they wanted to try to unalive themselves again and that person was having a crisis. That person was inside a car with their abusive partner parked in the street. I expected an ambulance to show up. Instead, only deputies showed up. The deputies spoke to the person and to the person's abusive partner, and they " determined " that the person was not in danger. These deputies are far from being medical or mental health professionals. Anyway, they never came to speak to me, and I was the one that placed the call and the one that had prior knowledge of this person's previous attempts to unalive themselves. One day I was at the East Los Angeles Sheriff's office for paperwork. While there I spoke to deputy Reel (if I remember correctly, he is a supervisor) about the incident with the person trying to unalive themselves. Deputy Reel said that IT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW TO UNALIVE YOURSELF!!!!! And Deputy Reel also kept giving me the "short staff" excuse for deputies not showing up for other calls. I also brought up the time my tenant threatened to unalive me. Deputy Reel told me that if she did not have a weapon, it is not a crime. I asked deputy Reel, "So if I say to you right now that I am going to unalive you, that is not a crime?" He said, "correct". When I lived in Northern Los Angeles County if the deputies showed up for someone claiming they will unalive themselves, they would let the fire dept handle it and let them take the person to a hospital where they would be evaluated, placed on hold, and given mental health treatment. Anyway, I have other bad experiences, and I can name names. That will be for another occasion. I keep receipts. East Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, do better. Sheriff Luna, do better. People of East Los Angeles, be more discerning and expect more from your local authorities.

I asked if getting the report was pointless because he kept on saying that people pay insurance for situations like mine and he assumed that I was there because "I/myself" "wasn't happy" which lead to refusal to pay for the damages done to my car. Little did he know. I would've have been ok with the dudes deductible which was $500 but he didn't even want to pay that. Anyway, point is that this place is useless. Officer Tran and Officer Garcia knew this wasn't right and spent 2+ hours calling their supervisor, calling the tow yard multiple times, and everything else they could do to make sure I got my car that day. They were beyond helpful and so kind to me. They really could have brushed me off and told me they couldn't help, but they wanted to do the right thing and did everything in their power to make sure I felt taken care of. "Tall, dark, and handsome" doesn't even cover it, this man looks like he was sculpted out of marble by Michelangelo himself and then gifted a badge. I walked in to discuss water levels and walked out wondering if I should check my pulse. If the LAPD's strategy for lowering crime is to simply stun citizens into silence with sheer aesthetic perfection, it is working. If you're going to have your property stolen, do yourself a favor and get it handled here. 10/10, would get my water siphoned again just to file the paperwork. In my experience, Olympic Community Police Station has become deeply compromised under the command…read moreof Captain Rachel Rodriguez. I believe she uses not only citizens, but her own staff to obtain self-serving goals. Since she became captain, I have observed a pattern of conduct that I believe reflects bad faith, self-protection, retaliation, and a troubling lack of meaningful accountability. I have reported her and Chief Jim McDonnell to the West Bureau. I filed complaints concerning officers at this station, including Detective Carlos De La Rosa. Instead of creating a process that appeared independent, Captain Rodriguez orchestrated a meeting in which the very detective I had complained about was seated next to me, while City Attorney Claudia Martin was seated on my other side who spoke about my cases in a dismissive and devaluing manner. She even laughed in a mocking manner which is highly concerning for any attorney let alone a City Attorney. I was also not told that the detective I complained about or the City Attorney were going to be in the meeting. Additionally, I was also placed under significant pressure to sign documents after that meeting despite making clear that I did not want to sign. I believe the way that meeting was structured was coercive and designed to protect officers and the station rather than properly address my complaint. I have also experienced serious concerns with how police reports were handled. One matter involved approximately nine months of evidence. A sergeant confirmed to me that the conduct warranted a report, yet the matter sat for roughly two months without being filed, and I repeatedly had to pursue answers myself. In my view, that is not a minor administrative issue. It reflects a serious failure in basic police responsibility and accountability. Detective Chi confirmed that Captain Rachel Rodriguez had confirmed not filing the report was acceptable. He later filed it after I went to the station. More recently, I received a disposition letter from Chief Jim McDonnell regarding my complaint. The letter was extremely vague. It did not clearly identify which officer or officers had actually been investigated, did not meaningfully address several of the facts I had raised, and then directed me back to Sergeant Carlos De La Rosa - the same officer whose conduct I had complained about. I find that astonishing. A complainant being referred back to the subject of her own complaint is exactly the kind of circular, bureaucratic process that causes people to lose confidence in internal police accountability. I also find it highly telling that, during Captain Rodriguez's command, officers and supervisors I personally found professional, responsible, and genuinely concerned about citizens have left the station quickly, while officers who have been the subject of complaints have been promoted. One lieutenant whom I believe she used to obtain my signature has left the station after working there for many years. The same sergeant whom I regarded as outstanding and conscientious who instructed his officers to file the report with nine month of evidence - and later that same report was stopped by Detective Chi and Captain Rodriguez - left shortly after she became captain as well. I believe that pattern is highly telling. In my experience, this station has repeatedly relied on internal procedures that protect the institution while leaving the citizen to chase answers, challenge vague responses, and repeatedly document conduct that should have been addressed the first time. I have cited specific laws, LAPD policies, complaint procedures, and civil-rights concerns in my correspondence, yet I continue to receive responses that avoid the substance of what I reported. I believe Captain Rodriguez has misuses her authority and has fostered a culture in which serious complaints are minimized, redirected, or handled in ways that protect the station itself. I also believe some of the conduct I have experienced has been retaliatory after I filed complaints against her and other personnel. People should understand how this station handles complaints before assuming that filing one will result in an independent or meaningful review. My experience has been the opposite: a circular system in which the same people connected to the complaint remain involved in the process, accountability is difficult to identify, and the complainant is expected to keep pushing simply to get direct answers. This is bureaucracy at its best. As long as Captain Rachel Rodriguez remains in command, I personally have no confidence in the integrity of Olympic Station's internal accountability process. In my experience, the station has become a place where protecting the institution appears to take priority over protecting the public.

I filed a claim with my insurance for "informational purposes only" and a report with officer Bayani (sp) at the SC Police Department, and emailed him photos. The damage to my car wasn't that bad, it needs a good buffing, but, they're refusing to take responsibility. In fact, a man claiming to be a deputy phoned that night to tell me he loaned the van to cadets who went to a dance in Santa Cruz. I also have a voice mail message from a woman who sounded intoxicated claiming to have seven "witnesses" that she didn't hit my car. Um, okay. Yeah, you did. I've sent the photos to the SCPD, and after a few weeks have given up hope that any police agency would EVER do the right thing. I'm appalled that the Sheriff didn't call me back, as I left messages with his rude secretary who told me there was NO way that a LA county sheriff's van would be in Santa Cruz - despite the fact that I have photos. Tonight, I've decided to use YELP to out them as criminals. I will share a few photos, just because, you know, they weren't in Santa Cruz!
