My husband was admitted in this rehab center. He was only there for 4 days when he was talking and then came unresponsive. A family member was visiting him and witness the entire incident. She kept asking them to call the ambulance because he wasn't moving, they were taking their time and just saying his vitals were good. The head manager came in the room unconcerned and didn't want to call. They finally called the ambulance. He was out for 30 minutes before they made the decision. The paramedic came and said this is not normal for someone to be unresponsive. When he arrived at the hospital and checked out they said he was having a seizure. The unprofessional and I would never recommend this facility anyone. How would they feel if someone treated their family member like this. read more

A jury awarded a total of $8.5 million on Monday to the estate and daughter of a woman who died while in the care of a Prince George's County nursing home. The jury for the Prince George's County Circuit Court found Largo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center breached the standards of care in its care of Helen Hansford, an 83-year-old woman who weighed 112 pounds at the time of her admission to the facility in June 2020. By January 2021, Hansford's weight had dropped to 81 pounds, according to the complaint. In addition to finding Largo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center acted negligently in its care and treatment of Hansford, the jury also found that Hansford's daughter, Helena Hansford, had a wrongful death claim for her mother's death. Of the $8.5 million award, $8 million is for Hansford's estate and $500,000 is for Helena Hansford.The award will be reduced to $845,000 per Maryland's cap on noneconomic damages, according to Brian Brown, counsel for the representative of Hansford's estate and Hansford's family. Brown said Hansford lost 25% of her body weight at the facility, which failed to put her back on a blood thinner after surgery. As a result, Hansford got a blood clot that went to her lungs and brain, causing her death. "For (our clients) to be able to tell their story and reveal to the public how this facility abused their mother and grandmother, that was the most satisfying part -- that we gave them the opportunity to do that," Brown said in a phone interview. read more

If you love or care about your family members do not send them to Largo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (LNRC) please, please!! Here are just a few of the reasons you should not send your family member there: 1. They will be ignored and no one will answer their call bell for hours. My family member was a fall risk and needed help to go to the bathroom. From 1:00 AM in the morning to after 7:00 am no one answered his call bell and he laid in his feces for 6 plus hours. He did not get changed until after the 7:00 AM shift arrived. This was reported to Julia Nwokeuke , Administrator and Tommy, night nurse supervisor, but of course nothing changed and his call bell is still not being answered in a timely manner. I immediately wanted to move my brother to another nursing facility. He was moved to LNRC after a 10 day stay in the hospital but he did not want to go through a traumatic move again and also the fact that he might go to a center that was worse than LNRC. Therefore, I was forced to hire a health aide to come aid him three times a week for 4 hours to ensure he was getting the service that he as a Vietnam veteran deserved. It was unfortunate that I had to pay out of pocket for services that Medicare was already paying for but the facility was not providing. 2. Staff are rude, incompetent, uncaring and will ignore you and your family member 3. The food is horrible and is always cold by the time it reaches the patient 4. Mariatu Nyumah, social worker, will not call you back and you can't leave a message because her voicemail is always full. You have to leave a message for her at the front desk to be put in her mailbox. Make sure you take a picture of it to prove that you left it for her. 5. Julian Nwokeuke, Administrator, also does not care either. Even after meeting with him twice (2x) nothing has changed and the service continues to rapidly deteriorate. 6. Kelson M. Figaro, facility doctor, will not schedule to meet with you or call you to discuss your family member's care even after 3-5 phone and written requests. Mariatu, social worker, said she left several messages for him to call/meet the family. My brother said that the doctor comes in on Tuesdays so my sister and I came to the facility early to catch him. After 25 days and repeated requests we were able to see Dr. Kelson Figaro on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, around noon, by waiting/ambushing him when he visited my brother. 7. Heaven forbid your family member has to be sent out of the rehab to an emergency room because when the doctor's orders are sent back with them, the staff is so incompetent and lackadaisical that they cannot follow the emergency orders or get the required medication in a timely manner. 8. If your family member has an outside doctor's don't trust the staff to make it. Follow up with the date time and address yourself at least 1-2 days before the appointment. 9. Make sure your family member has a cell phone to call you as their phones are constantly out of service and voice mails are full plus they have no emergency backup plan other than using their cell phones. 10. After my brother had been there for 15 days and my constant calling and leaving messages with Mariatu, social worker, she finally scheduled a care team meeting with his family on his 15th day being there. I also contacted Jackie Williams, (301) 265-8010, PG County Ombudsman for nursing homes who also attended the family care plan meeting and met with the administrator. Still the service did not improve but continued to decline. 11. Parking is limited When the 3:00 PM shift changed almost ran me over trying to get in the space I had been waiting for for 20 minutes. 12. I was told by the care team that the patients are supposed to be weighed once a week and get a shower once a week. My brother has only had two showers and weighed 2 times since he's been there. As of today August 8, 2024, it has been 28 days. 13. My brother had a catheter and contracted a contagious UTI. The facility did not follow established protocols for a contagious patient. Staff continued to go in and out of his room without putting on the required yellow gowns, gloves and masks but they told me I had to wear them. I had to request and almost demand to the doctor that he be retested to ensure that the uti was gone after five days of antibiotics. The nurse at the desk told me that they don't retest for a contagious UTI. What??? This has been a stressful and agonizing situation with my brother at Largo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. I contacted Medicare and they now have a dedicated Medicare Patient Advocate Program for seniors and it is free. Michael my advocate is managing all of this for me. I was asked by the Admission Director to write a positive rating for Largo Health Care. Unfortunately, she will not be getting one. My husband was transferred from Waldorf Center to Largo because it was only 10 minutes from my home. This was the worse decision I have ever made. I read the reviews but was assured by The Director that it was one or two relatives that had written these reviews. DO NOT put your relatives in this place! The rooms are nasty and very depressing! The staff from the Administrator to the cleaning staff should be fired. They were constantly saying "am sorry " when I complained about poor medication management, repositioning of my husband and the poor condition of the room. This place should be shut down. My husband passed away on 9/2/2022. He was taken to the hospital from Largo Health Facility and I wouldn't recommend putting a rat in this place. I experienced firsthand the neglect at Largo. The GNAs were lazy, had very bad attitudes and didn't speak very good English. I reached out to PG Patients Advocate and was very disappointed with her lack of help. I am angry, frustrated and upset with the lack of oversight on this nursing home. I saw firsthand the neglect on patients that didn't have a love one to check on them. For all those families looking for somewhere to put your love, Please Don't put them in Largo Health Care. Do not admit a loved one to this facility. The communications, or lack there of is appalling. The social worker; Mariatu should be called the anti social worker as she is virtually unwilling to assist , accommodate or even listen. Once your loved one is admitted, it is near hell getting them out as this facility is conditioned to maximize their Medicare revenue and are deaf to family input and requests. my father was getting minimal physical therapy, he was ungroomed, was left in a chair for hours and no one would respond to his calls, he claimed abuse and also said the staff was rough with him. When I tried to get him discharged I hit many walls, 4 days of continuous trying to get him discharged I threatened to call the police - after all, it is not a prison, I succeeded after signing a hold harmless agreement under duress. DON'T TAKE ANYONE YOU CARE FOR TO THIS FACILITY. read more

If I could give this place less than 1 star, I would definitely give it minus 100 stars. This facility is HORRIBLE. The environment is depressing, uninviting and not conducive to physical and emotional healing. Almost everything is in disrepair! My niece was there for one week before she was able to transfer to a much better facility. She was supposed to receive intensive OT and PT, but never received a PT assessment or treatment plan!!! Services are lacking, some staff are unresponsive, rude and lack compassion. Many times she waited for more than an hour before someone came into her room after she pressed the buzzer for assistance. The front desk receptionist lacks basic good customer service skills and was very nasty, unprofessional and should not be the initial point of contact. We were not pleased with the social worker and had to follow up repeatedly to ensure that the transfer paperwork was completed and faxed. I had to lodge several complaints and write two scathing emails to the administrators about the conditions there. I was able to identify the corporate office, but it was easier for E.T. to "phone home" than it was for me to contact the parent company! This facility should be closed permanently!!!! Please do not even consider putting your loved one there. read more

Manor Care Nursing Center is NOT where you would want your love one at. The staff there including the Supervisor, & CNA, these are people that work the evening shrift, they are nasty towards the patience family members, very com-battled when you try to communicate with them. Ralph Squire is a patient there, now as I type this comment. The nurses that are assigned to my brother, are lazy and don't seem to like their job. They did want to clean my brother up, he had been lay in his feces... for a good minute. I wouldn't recommend a dog to go to this facility, it's a bad place for any human being. The staff do not care about them nor the family. They are extremely arrogant with abruptness. Very mean spirit in character. I never want to go there again, not even to visit. These people are very unprofessional in their movement. I'm left to believe that their only interest is the money. They are only hanging out there and getting paid to do little of nothing. Their attitude leaves a lot to be desired. Again... from my own personal experience, do not put your love one's in the hands of this company. Their beds are not safe, there's no railing to prevent the patient from falling out onto the floor, that's not good, mainly if the patience mobility is limited. My brother have only a few more days there before he's released and I'll be so pleased, because I hate going to that facility. I been avoiding going there, because the last time wasn't a good visit. I actually got into an argument with a couple staff members because they refuse to do there job, which is to take care my brother's needs.
