We discovered Desoto theater about ten years ago, and ever since we have been meeting there to watch a show. One of the most memorable ones was "The Cats". We sat on the front row and watched very talented amateurs act and sing. We even saw the facial expressions of the actors. It was awesome! Six months earlier I had seen the same broad way show at The Fox Theater. Then, I paid a lot of money for the tickets. We loved the show, but did not see nearly as much of the details of the performance, as we did at the Desoto Theater. Also in Rome, GA, parking close to the theater was not a hassle! All the performances that we have seen at this theater, have been worth driving from Acworth, Georgia and Gadsden, Alabama. We are looking forward to seeing the next play soon.

Last minute idea for a Sunday Funday option. This little school house is in downtown Cumming and is…read morecertainly a blast from the past. It's a 1920s school turned into a theater, with a majority of the original school intact. I was able to get some last minute tickets for the show, The Producers, literally 2 hours before the play. Cost was not bad at all, $25/person. They offer a VIP experience too, for another $25/person, that comes with heavy hors d'ouevres and non-alcoholic drinks (not offered on Sundays). Parking was not bad. We got there early and ordered drinks from the bar (fairly full bar of offerings). Costs on alcohol were not bad either. It was fun touring the school house and seeing all the old pictures of class photos taken there, and all the frames photos of previous plays put on. Even the school rooms had the window above the doorway. There is also a restaurant in back with some great mural art/paintings on the wall. The theater was fairly large and presented well, with cushy seats and convenient drink holders. My expectations were low and I was very much surprised by the skill level of the cast and how well the show was run. I've never been to Broadway but I've been to the Fox, and this show would equal some of the stuff I've seen there or at other theaters. Very talented cast! The show was also incredible. Overall, this was a wonderful visit. If you live in the area, you'd be crazy not to check out a show here!

They have summer camps, weekly dance and singing classes as well as private vocal lessons. As parents, we love that this theater makes sure each child has a few lines and feels part of the shows even on the beginner level. We also appreciate that costumes are part of the production fee! We drove nearly four hours to attend this production, as I've always wanted to see Next to Normal on stage. I had never heard of the Lyric, so I checked their promo materials on instagram prior to investing in the drive and cost. It was worth it. The production was outstanding, beautifully staged, and there was so so so much talent. The lighting and scenic design were modern, sleek, and minimalist. The show should have been sold out because so much talent was involved. They had concessions and friendly front of house staff. Our only complaint was that we were on the front row, and the monitor speakers were places along the apron of the stage, which blocked action center stage terribly. If you have the opportunity to see a production here, do it. You won't regret.

I'm sad to say that I haven't made it to a theatrical performance yet but did enroll my daughter in their fall Stories Come Alive! class. The class taught beginner techniques and storytelling to young elementary children and seemed to be enjoyed by all. I was also impressed by Kyle's (the theatre's education manager) presence during classes and overall involvement and communication. I would definitely enroll my daughter in a future class and plan to attend an upcoming performance in the spring!
